Do not be put off by the location or exterior of this place - Mae is an eyebrow wizard! She's been…read morepractising and perfecting her art for many years, and your eyebrows are in very safe hands. I've always had very fair eyebrows, and recently I seem to be losing more off the end of them, for no obvious reason. Filling them in in the mornings was getting to be a real pain in the chops, and they were becoming increasingly wonky and annoying. Without eyebrows proving structure, my face just looks like a giant potato, so something had to be done! Slighty peeved, off I trotted to Mae's, to get a tint and shape. I'd been recommended Mae's by a make-up artist I did a course with, who recommended Mae's for semi-permanent brows. I wasn't lconsidering semi-permanent at that point, as I'm a bit of a feartie. I don't even have my ears pierced! During the tint, I asked Mae what I could do about my disappearing brows, and received the sage reply 'only semi-permanent can save you now'. I thought about it for a few weeks, then plucked up the courage to get semi-permanent eyebrows done. I had a major concern that I was going to end up with ginormous mad black brows, but there is no need to worry, Mae will not do that to you! Unless that's what you want, in which case, good luck to you. There are 2 stages to the process. On the first visit, Mae draws on the brows, checks you are happy with the shape, then can do different techniques of blading depending on what look you want. I had a combination of the 6D micro-blading technique, which is used to draw on individual hairs for a more natural look, as well as the powder look, which fills in the white bits in between the hairs. Is it painful? Yes. Yes it is. It's not unbearable, but I'm not going to lie to you, it was a bit ouchy. Mae puts on numbing cream first, but let's face it, she then sets about you like a teeny little Edward Scissorhands, so that's going to smart a bit. Just when I was about to ask her to stop, she was finished. Excellent. And again, being honest, for the next 3 or 4 days, if you are pale like me, you ARE going to look a bit like someone has drawn on your brows with a Sharpie. I compensated for this by wearing extra dark eye make-up, which seemed to lessen the effect, and I think I pretty much got away with it. After 4 days, the colour starts to fade more to a natural look. It's handy to know about the after-care before you go. After it's done, you can't get your eyebrows wet for 7 days, and you need to put Vaseline on them every hour or so, as a barrier to stop any germs or dirt getting in and so nothing interferes with the healing. This actually isn't as bad as it sounds, it's not really that noticeable if you do it carefully, and you don't want scabby brows, so it's worth doing. You then have to wait 4 - 6 weeks until they have healed, then you go back for a top-up. Everyone heals differently, and sometimes a bit of colour won't take, so the top-up makes sure that everything is as it should be. The same aftercare rules apply. After 4 or so weeks, you then have your healed and finished eyebrows, and these should last you about 12-18 months. I have eyebrows again! They do look really natural, and have just added that little bit of definition that makes so much difference. I am totally delighted with the result, and will definitely be back to Mae's when eyebrow time comes around again.

Love love love it!…read more After a tragic visit to a nail salon chain in the city centre, I was directed here by a friend. Entering, I found it bright, welcoming and friendly. The place was a-buzz with customers, who all were chatty and lively. When I sheepishly showed my badly done nails to my new nail tech, Fee, (who part owns the shop), she just tutted and said, 'Well, you've come to the right place!' I never felt, for the hour or so I was there, that I had to struggle with conversation. Everything was light and easy, and Fee was gentle and knowledgeable about what she does. In fact, the hour passed so quickly that I didn't even realise it; that's a good sign! And when I left, I felt like I'd made some good friends, rather than that feeling like I'd been through a conveyor belt. It may seem like a jaunt from the city centre, but it's worth it. The prices are great, they'll give you a discount if they can, and you'll find yourself looking forward to your next visit. If you pass up this opportunity, then you're just a fool. You can't get quality beauty like this anywhere else.

I have just left the salon and I am really upset with the service I have recieved…read more I had been to the salon before and really liked it. As we were up from London for Christmas I phoned straight away to book. This time the technician basically ignored me! She talked to everyone else in the salon but me. After a while I was so shocked I took to looking at my mobile, ceiling etc. I do think that even some of the other technicians felt I was really uncomfortable but said nothing. How easy would it have been to utter a - looking forward to Christmas? Done all your shopping? My nails are good but they will be done just as well elsewhere. A horrible experience!

I had went in two days before I was going on holiday to get semi-permanent eyelash extensions put in. It was the natural set as the guy (manager) had recommended them and said they'd be best for what I was looking for. He was friendly and chatty when I went in so I trusted his opinion and went ahead with it. He had also told me, I quote, "they will last 6 to 8 weeks if you look after them" - mine didn't last more than 24 hours. So as soon as I lay down to get them done, the woman doing them dropped the whole table set and everything on it while hurting her finger in the process. After waiting till her finger was okay, she then took around 10 minutes trying to stick my bottom lashes down because she couldn't do it. Once they were done, there was no difference. She said she put 60 lashes in one eye and honestly it looked like 3 were in. I met my friend after having them done and she asked why my lashes were stuck together and looked separate. That night around 15 lashes came out of the right eye and a few from the other. By morning every single one from the right eye had come out. They are closed on a Sunday so there was nothing I could do. I called them on Monday morning and told the woman what's happened. She apologised and asked if I wanted to come back in and she'll put them back in for me. I was leaving for the airport in an hour so obviously didn't have the time. I told her to let her manager know and I had pictures if he wants to see and that I'd come back in for a refund when I was back from holiday as I was so disappointed. So I went back in when I was back from holiday and the manager was so unbelievably rude. His attitude had completely changed from the first time I was in. I showed him the pictures I had taken and all he kept asking is why I didn't take a picture of my eyes :/ I explained that taking a picture of my eyes wouldn't have shown anything, you can't see properly from a picture. I had also explained that his employee had not asked me to take a picture of my eyes after I explained it to her either. He went on to say, and I quote again, "she is the most experienced staff I have, she does eyelashes all the time" yet she spent 10 minutes trying to stick my bottom lashes down on one eye.. He was incredibly rude, wouldn't let me speak at all and couldn't admit that it was their fault, even after providing evidence. He then took the money out the till (£30) and slammed it on the desk and said "there". My friend that was with me and I were disgusted not only at his attitude but at his awful customer service as well. I have never had such a bad experience in my life and will for sure never be back at this terribly unprofessional shop.
