I bought my first Presto card for Sept. 1/19 (monthly pass) it was lost on Sept 19th. and reported. Waited till Sept. 27th to receive new one - did not know I had to activate it - activated it Sept. 29th found out it could take 24 hrs. JUST GREAT ! My monthly pass runs out Sept. 30th ..... I have lost unused and PAID bus fare from Sept. 20 to Sept. 30. Can I get that reimbursed ? I was told NO unless I prove I have taken the bus with receipts! WHAT ??? Presto and TTC are ripping people off ! I prepaid and as of today I have no bus fare. I knew this system was a bad idea when first introduced. Don't EVER WHINE TO ME TTC about fare evasion! the money you are ripping off us more than makes up for it ! Thanks for opening my eyes to your con ! read more

After several calls, finally I had an agent who was able to help me. But it took 4 calls and emails until I spoke with the right person. I think they need to train their agents before placing them in customer service department. When an agent tells me you need to complete a form and mail your new card info other wise it won't be accepted another tells me something different ? read more

I'm always on board with technology and trying to make lives easier for people. So TTC is rolling out Presto cards which they intend to be their main form of payment by 2017. I can't see how that can happen the way things are now. In general, it is convenient, I do appreciate the move forward, but I have no trust in this sytem. I don't generally post to Yelp, but the way things are now, this isn't acceptable and I hope the more people speak up, the more Presto is inclined to move a bit faster to do something. I currently just loaded some money onto my prestocard. I'm going to have to wait 24 hours for this to come through, which is not great, but still better than running to the store to stock up on tokens. However, I'm now looking at a "load pending" number that is not the complete amount of money I added. I'm going to see how this plays out in 24 hours, if it corrects itself, but this isn't helping with the trust issues I have with Presto. Speaking of system, no app for easy payments, or checking your balance. What is more incredible is that their website isn't even mobile friendly. Even the TTC has a mobile site. A bit ago, I was tapped on at 3pm and was charged for that trip at 9pm which meant the transfer that I wasn't supposed to be charged for at 3:30pm was charged. In short, that's an extra payment. I wrote to customer service on principle, because this can add up, however as the gentleman earlier posted, their customer service form doesn't accept common punctuation. Could you imagine if you wrote an entire Yelp review and told that you couldn't submit it because you use an apostrophe? :p I'd be more upset about the extra fare charged to my card if I hadn't gotten on the car a few times for free because the presto machines were broken. Soooo that's a lot of free rides that TTC is letting go, I'm wondering where the shortfall is going to end up. read more

I received my card months ago but never activated it, when calling in to do so I was told it would take 24 hours. That burned me up but not as much as the terrible customer service I got from their representative, extremely rude. What got me even more was that I went to a station and put money on the card before checking online to discover that the card was not active, they apparently were not supposed to put money on an inactive card. This shows a classic example of ineptitude from the GO Station right through to Presto Customer Service. To be honest there is no point in writing a review or complaining because their are no repercussions to any of them for mistakes and bad service. read more

The customer satisfaction team lacks compassion and common sense, because that's what they're told to do by their managers. They run a monopoly so they treat customers however they like to maximize their profits. I do think transit cards are a blessing compared to paper tickets and tokens, but I hope they improve their customer service! Sometimes the card readers don't work and you get a free ride, though that's increasingly rare. read more

Worst customer service ever. Your better of just paying cash because then they can't rip you off. They charge you for fares you never took and then they tell you they don't do refunds. I would give it 0 stars if I could. read more

Do NOT ever sign up for autoload with these people. My Amex card was constantly double-charged for an autoload, without the corresponding credits appearing on my Presto card. On calling Presto customer service, I was dismissed by a rude representative who told me bluntly that the problem must be with American Express, despite the fact that it must be Presto initiating the transactions. Fortunately Amex have decent customer service and reversed the fake transactions. But it gets worse: I cancelled my Presto card and they STILL continued charging my Amex card after the cancellation date, even with no Presto card to credit! It got to the point where I had to get American Express to put a merchant block on Presto to stop them stealing from me. You don't have to look very hard online to see that these kinds of problems are not rare. I can't imagine how much $$$ Presto are scamming from people who don't carefully check their credit card statements. Avoid like the plague! read more

The worst card and customer service ever! First of all, received a defective card mailed to me from Presto. Then I called customer service to get replacement, was asked to go to nearest shoppers to get replace card. Went to shoppers (apparently only a handful of them carry presto card), I was told they don't replace card, I have to buy new card and charge 10 dollar to activate it. So I called customer service again and this time was asked to go to Presto stop at union station. I went to union station and was told there is no presto stop, they are only third party that sells presto card. Again, I have to buy a new card and charge 10 dollar to activate it! What in the world would the customer service just offer me an option of mailing me a replace card or just simply tell me I cannot get replace card at all? Besides I have to buy the card on my own cost and force to charge 10 dollar again to activate it, I wasted 3 days walking around DT for this simple manner. I had bad experience with Presto when it first came out, it deactivate itself when I didn't tap it to active it at the terminal within first 48 hours of purchase. It seems the customer experience never improved. read more

This is the review for their customer service. I was being audited by the CRA for my transit, so I wanted to go in and check my records for my 2012 usage in August. Turns that out that they changed the system and you need to register again if you registered before May 31, 2013. I tried multiple times online and it didn't work. That got me so annoyed. Also, who the heck gives such a long card number without any spaces? So easy to make a typo. Anywho, I called customer service and at first they said I didn't register...then they asked me for my addres and name - so if they have that, I obviously did register. It took about 30 minutes to reset my pin as it wasn't working and the customer service rep said to me "when you were entering your pin, did you put us on hold because you have call waiting"? Really...I kept my cool and said "no, I'm not sure why it didn't work, can I try again?" So yeah, after the 3rd time, it finally worked. Anywho, things are resolved, but I hate it when it takes more than 30 minutes to solve simple issues...ugh. read more

The entire Presto setup is an extremely inefficient and frustrating experience. TTC did a very bad job at this. If TTC is seriosuly planning on switching all users over to Presto instead of tokens, they will have to make drastic changes. I want to puke and throw my card out. read more

too bad a NOT option wasn't available...this is the biggest flop ever - they advise you to register your card to protect your balance but if you lose your card, you are responsible for any funds used in the 24 hrs of cancelling your card - how's that for protection?! Then you have to buy a new card for $6, and your balance from your old card can't be transferred until at least 24 hrs have passed and then it's another 24 hours for those transferred funds to appear and be available (even though the website tells me to tap and they will be available). And the funds can only be transferred to an unregistered card. I cancelled a card on Monday at 6pm - it's now Wednesday at 10am and I'm still waiting for my transferred funds. This transit payment system is a BIG JOKE, as are all the people that work at Metrolinx. read more

This was honestly one of the dumbest creations ever. Bus passes & tokens should not be phased out as this presto process is beyond ludicrous. Taking anywhere from 24hrs to upload money to a card ONLINE. The idiot representative cancelled the wrong card and instead of clarifying which card needed to be cancelled she went ahead and did it. The representatives spend so much time providing information that isn't asked EVERY CONVERSATION is beyond dreadful. The manager asked me to let her finish speaking simply because she wanted to provide me with information I NEVER ASKED FOR...such as...when my original every day card was purchased...what is the point in that? It's like asking someone what is today's weather but, they're giving you the forecast for the week...why? That information wasn't asked. I despise presto and really believe that this isn't the way of the future. It is just another way to inconvenience people and keep track of people's movements. Utterly ridiculous and a WASTE OF TIME OH and let's not forget the stupid process of not being able to transfer funds amongst registered cards nor can you purchase a bus pass on an unregistered card (or else funds won't be transferred). At least if I lost my bus pass...I could buy a new one with no issues. This card is supposed to make things easier but, everywhere you turn there's a restriction. read more

All this hate is funny, but some are credible and of course, leaves room for improvement. That being said, I love my Presto card and would never go back. As a heavy user of credit/debit, I never have cash and since then, I've never seen a coin or a token in the last 4 years of me commuting all around the GTA and to the DT core. I use my Presto 10+ times a week going to various places and really enjoy the feature that it is used for all the major public transportation services such as VIVA, GO, and TTC. 1. Just freakin' autoload your card. It's so damn easy and I never have to worry about it going without funds or being worried about the 24-hour loading period. I'm met with resistance by some of my friends that refuse to do that, and they keep wasting so much time lining up to refill it. 2. Be careful of TTC Subways/busses that have not set up Presto yet. It's ridiculous and a huge inconvenience, but just cautioning y'all. 3. Customer Service is abysmal. They will never refund you even if it's their fault. We once had a problem with a Presto card acting up, and it tapped properly at bus shelters but on the actual bus it did not work. The bus driver forced my friend to pay AGAIN and we called customer service and said "they would get back to us about the refund" (but they never did). Presto has their ups and downs, but for the most part, commuting has been very easy for me because of this very card. If you use public transportation often in the GTA/DT, then I highly suggest getting one! read more

The worst card, customer service and management. The worst product is providing worst services. Welcome to the present, GTA (looks at TTC in particular). The one card to rule them all so far has had many ups and downs it seems. I just got mine this week because tokens will be gone come next year for the TTC. I never use any other transit in the GTA except the TTC and that includes GO, MiWay etc. I just don't, for now. The only thing I can really compare Presto to is Ventra which is Chicago's version which came out after the Presto system (2013 as opposed to 2009). The reality is Presto has been around longer for the other transit systems in neighboring municipalities but the big integration is really for the TTC because we all know the TTC is a dinosaur. The costs to integrate this or a system like this are already making news saying that there have been delays and cost overruns. Wow, what a surprise... everything the TTC touches in some way basically is assumed to cost more than what they thought it would and take longer. That's like a given, right? I ordered my card pre-loaded online with 29 dollars on it (10 x TTC adult fares). The new card is 6 dollars when ordering so it came out to 35 bucks. It was mailed to my home about a week later. I went online and created an online account to register the card. Registering the card allows you various options to add value to the cards online as well as the ability to manage multiple cards with one online account. There are also fare machines at stations like Kipling where you can load your card or just simply check the balance. Still, this new fare payment system is sorrily needed. What it will replace on the TTC end is tokens, tickets and maybe perhaps cash? We don't necessarily need to have cash fares anymore. Many of the other transit systems on our continent simply don't use it. The thing is the electronic form of paying fares has to work. Failure and then it's chaos. In reading the Ventra reviews and in fact writing my own, I get to know the gist of the system but I don't know it inside out. You never really will know the backend or support of a system until you actually have to deal with it or engage the dreaded "customer service". I've dealt with Ventra customer service and I was satisfied with my results. I haven't had to deal with Presto yet so I'll reserve to change this review if the need ever arises. That being said I'll remain neutral for now. Tokens will be gone, face the facts and get with this new card TTC ridership. The days of automation are upon us and only now have we somewhat caught up to what cities like Washington, DC have had for 3 decades or so. The main difference between Ventra and Presto I can think of is that Ventra's cards are actually credit cards. With the CTA you don't have to own a Ventra card to use for their transit but rather you can use your own tappable card such as a debit card (aka bank access card) or your own credit card. For people that aren't good with dealing with purchases, registering for things online etc this could be a difficulty. For NYC's MTA cards (plastic fare card) can be anonymous and have no affinity to individuals while tickets (paper with mag strips) can't be used for transfers from subway to buses etc. With any main infrastructure change in a very large transit system, bumps are to be expected. How the system integrates and how they treat these challenges is fully yet to be seen but the full over change is on the horizon so it can and will be eventually worked out because it has to and we don't have a choice. read more

I bought a Presto card at a subway station. I then went to the Prestocard.ca site. It says you can designate the card as senior, adult, or child at their service outlet. But they don't tell you where the service outlet is. So I called them, but their call answer is a series of dead ends: "For this press 1, for this press 2... " none of the questions offered were about where the service outlet is, and there was no option to speak to an operator even though I called within their operating hours. So then I emailed their support and told them I couldn't find where their service outlets were on their site, and I couldn't find that info on their call line. They then sent me an email telling me that I can find where these outlets are on their site. read more

Been using PRESTO since September 2016 - thought it was great, auto load was helpful. Two weeks ago I noticed my debit card was charged twice for my maximum load (two separate $20 charges by PRESTO). I logged into my account thinking I had gone under my limit... but it was over my minimum $5, and I was at $9 (even with 24 hour delay, subtract $2.30 and you still arrive at a number above my auto load setting). I waited a day to see if the funds would appear and they have completely disappeared (so now I am out $40). I cancelled my auto load and now have emailed customer service 4-5 times (work a lot and don't have time to call). Haven't heard back once, will now be forced to call the 1-800 number today. BEYOND frustrating, haven't used my card since I don't trust it. read more

New user Of presto card Which I thought it was a great idea to avoid looking for change or tokens, etc. Very disappointing. I've seen systems around the world (including so called 3rd world countries) with much better platform - You can't use it everywhere and if I happen to be on a subway or bus that doesn't have a reader I have money in my card for no reason - loads take up to 24 hours to be available? With all the technology available nowadays that's outrageous. - No mobile app or mobile friendly site?? Does presto knows that most people use their mobile devices on the go for transaction, browsing, etc ? Great idea But way too disappointing for 2016 and a service provided in one of the most important countries in the world. read more

Not a fan of Presto! and how they're running their service. I've used fare cards in other places and their systems run great. Presto! has this unfortunate tendency to just stop working for no reason. Presto works decent, but there are some major archaic practices here that need to be updated to 2018. 1. The initial card purchase and the delays to get it working, this thing should be instantly activated on purchase not 24-48 hours later. 2. Machines constantly out of order at most stations. 3. Machines that promote monthly passes but don't have the functionality to do so. 4. Tapping on to subway only to find out there is a massive delay or stoppage, there is no way for you to get refunded unless you login online and make a dispute. There should be a tap off option managed by the transit staff or easy way to do this in an app. 5. Refunds take days to get loaded back to the card vs instantly. 6. If you want to close your card and get a refund you can at a random store for cash. However if its over $50.00 you have to Print a refund form, ill repeat that. You have to print a refund form!!! fill it out and mail it, Presto only processes these once a month and your refund will take 4-6 weeks! This should be digital like everything else in 2018. TLDR; Presto works usually, all its services are slower than a fax machine. Good luck getting anything done with there service in a timely fashion. You will need to wait a minimum of 24-48 hours but usually longer especially if it is over a weekend. Upgrade your services to join the rest of us in 2018, stop living in the past. read more

I've been using this card for over 3 years now. It is a god send as I can simply use the card on so many different transit systems. It works on all flavours of the York Region Transit, Mississauga Transit, Oakville Transit, Burlington Transit, HSR in Hamilton, GO Transit - buses and trains, plus others. In the beginning I would go to the GO station to load - instant load. The manual online load takes 24 hrs for some reason. Automatic online load is the real way to go. Set the lower value such that your typical travel will be covered for a day and a half at worst. Watch the balance on your uses and the lights of the terminal. If your payment did not work out at Presto's first attempt this will still allow you travel home or to your GO station or loading place to manually load or to contact Presto to fix the issue. Your automatic load amount is up to your comfort level. I find that a week's worth is about right although others will load a month's worth. The really nice system is the co-pay systems. Transferring from local to GO results in major savings, currently HSR becomes 50¢ if a GO ride is finished within the time window (about 2.5 hrs from 1st tap on). Transfers from 1 local transit to another can result in NO additional charge! Even ones not adjoining like HSR and MiWay! The co-pay varies among systems (50-75¢ typically), TTC does not do any at all as yet. The TTC is just starting to change over to this payment system and there are limited portions of the system currently using this technology. I used to need to carry multiple transit system tickets just in case I was to travel on them, as I have 3 systems within a short walk of home and 5 systems at work. What a pain it was at times when they chose to change the tickets, annually for rate changes. I ended up with a few old tickets that were useless each time as I did not use them often enough. That no longer is a concern except for the TTC for a bit longer. I now wonder what happens when the card expiry approaches. read more

Terrible customer service. Terribly managed product overall, and paid for by our tax dollars. What a joke. They charged me for a monthly transit pass, then didn't load my card. I dispute this, and they tell me to "go to the kiosk where you bought it, and tell us the ID of the kiosk" Are you kidding me? Asking a customer to 1) remember the exact kiosk 2) physically go to the kiosk themselves. Horrible experience. I do as instructed and THEN they have to physically send someone to check the kiosk's history to view my particular case. Meanwhile I have a $150+ charge on my card and no transit pass. The technology behind Presto must be circa 1982. What other organizations do within seconds, Presto somehow takes days. That includes activating a new card online and/or adding funds to an existing card. I both added a second card, and topped up money on the first card on Friday morning. It is now Monday morning and neither transaction appears on the account. This happens regularly, it is not a one-off. So BEWARE! When conducting transactions on your account give far more than the "24 hours" they laughingly suggest or you will find yourself unable to travel on your empty card. And don't bother calling customer service. The poor folks there are completely unable to help regardless of the issue. read more

This service it terrible. You add the funds longer than 24 hours and still can't use the card. The first time you use it after adding funds, it automatically doesn't work until the second time (hopefully). Regardless you still have to pay cash. So now one I have to make sure i have either an extra token or cash encase it doesn't work ,and you end up getting kicked off the bus and embarrassed, late for work, or where ever you have to go. Bus drivers and impatient and rude as well. This is the worst idea for presto. Make sure you check your balance daily as they double charge you, I take a 2 hour bus ride and by the time I get to my last bus, I get charged again. Makes sense to just use cash or tokens. Save the hassle and annoyance. When you call in asking for refund, they refuse and usually say it's active. There should be a self checker and it should automatically add the funds without 24 hours and should automatically be usable. Technology of the future..trash.. read more

Here is my experience with PrestoPass today... My kid calls me this morning and says his card won't work. I check online and there's almost $200 in funds on the card. The card must be defective. So he goes and gets a new one, which I then add to my account on line. I then am looking for the option online to transfer funds from one card to the other... but I can't find it anywhere. So, out of desperation, since my kid is stranded downtown, I try to just load funds on to the new card. Now I get a note, after I add the funds to the new card, that it will take 24 hours for those funds to appear on the card. What??? Kidding right?? So, I decide to call customer service, as I figure it should be no problem to at least transfer funds from one card to the other. Haha.... Oh how wrong I was... not only is it not possible to transfer funds, or get funds to my kid in any way... in order to get my funds off the defective card, I would have to get yet ANOTHER card to have those funds transferred to it. Even though I have two cards registered to my account, there is no way now to transfer funds from one to the other. So I asked.... "Let's say I just don't want to use presto anymore and want my balance refunded"... They said I would have to go online, fill out a form... and get this... there would be a 4% charge to refund the money off this defective card. HAAAA WHAT A JOKE!!!! So, I asked this girl... "so, I now have almost $300 on two cards that my son has in his hands and both are useless... so how am I supposed to get my stranded son home"... Her response "That isn't my problem" THANKS PRESTO.... You guys officially have the most LUDICRIS card system known to man. Whoever is in charge of this should be out of a job! Stick to small change. My Presto card stopped working after a year - apparently a regular occurance. I was told via an email to take the card to a "Customer Service" location - an option was a local at the drug store Shoppers Drug Mart. Staff and management had no idea what I was talking about - they merely sold Presto cards. I called, waited and waded through four minutes of automated multiple choice options, and finally had the opportunity to speak to a real human who said I need to go to a GO station. I'll need to take a subway to get to the GO station. Useless company. Useless card. read more

Seems like zero stars is actually an option!! Cool! Presto is absolutely the worst system that i have ever seen. If London's Oyster system can immediately load funds on cards then so should Presto. But it takes 24 hours!!! Which century are we living in? Why the requirement of 24 hour wait or tapping before funds are loaded? It makes no sense. Plus, in the last 3 weeks of using it, I have boarded 3 buses where the card readers were not working. The system enables fare non-payment. I have funds sitting on the card. Even tapped it and it still shows pending. I don't believe it is a computer system in the background. They must have an army of 5 people manually keying in these transactions. Two out of three of my phone interactions with Presto representatives were quite pleasant and helpful (kudos to Stephanie and Brittany). One guy was pretty grumpy, but he resolved the problem anyway. Maybe he had a long day. I work in customer service as well, so I understand when they just have nothing else to say except to repeat the rules and policies. Representatives really can't make magic happen. However, I won't dispute the fact that some are more savvy and some are not. On a side note, TTC 925 bus driver was super nice. He let me on for free so that I could resolve my problem in the station. Thank you! As to the Presto system, there are many kinks. read more
