A sad testament to the decline of Prescot town centre. The Prescot Centre itself is a 1990s shopping precinct of which half the stores are empty. Any time I've been there it's been deathly quiet. The lower floor used to house a large Somerfield supermarket, but that has since been put out of business by the larger Tesco, on an edge-of-town retail park. Now the place is an embarrassment.
Just outside is Eccleston Street, once the town's main shopping street, but like the centre now in decline. Shame, as it's a historic thoroughfare with some beautiful buildings, including some very quaint Elizabethan features. Now the street and the Prescot Centre are crying out for regeneration. read more
