The instructor Eva was very knowledgeable and pretty funny at times. She really cares and wants all of the students to do well. I would highly recommend taking the course here vs a community college. As I mentioned I was done in 5 weeks vs the typical 16 week college course. They have day and evening hours available. I did very well on my exams and feel confident that I will do well on the state board exam. The instructor makes sure she teaches you all you need to know to do well on exams and to succeed in your career. They offer flexible payment plans too.

So when it came time to getting my to do list for clinical requirements, I was very behind! Thankfully, Paul was a life saver (literally! Lol). He's saved lives for a career and knows what he's talking about! I found him to be friendly, thorough, and approachable. He offered a lot of information related to scene safety assessment that you won't find in the book, and he went more into depth on the Heimlich procedure for infants than I'd heard anywhere else before. He spent as much time as needed and made sure we felt confident in the skills. It wasn't about just knowing all the right answers on paper. It was great to learn something new and refresh the skills I'd previously acquired. The class consisted of only 3 students, including myself, all involved in professional childcare. This small-group feel made it seem more personal and gave us more one-on-one from the instructor. I found this having fewer students refreshingly different from a BLS class I'd taken for health professionals through the Red Cross four years earlier. His price was extremely reasonable. Since he didn't have a First Aid Class that night (it was only CPR/AED), and I needed both, he recommended I take the blended learning approach, doing the education/training portion online through AHA and then staying after the CPR/AED class so he could administer the skills assessment. He was accommodating to help me this way and he even loaned students the required books to study. I was able to get the knowledge and certifications I needed through this class and had an enjoyable time doing it!

Overall, a good class! They have multiple start dates throughout the year and offer class times…read morethat fit around work or school. I took the 7-week CNA course, and by the time the state exam rolled around, I felt prepared. The required homework, although very time-consuming, was all the preparation I needed to pass all the exams. My main issues with this course are that the required quizzes, practice exams, and exams need to be updated, as there were many inconsistencies. The wording of some test questions fails to provide enough information to answer them properly without asking the instructor for clarification. There were also questions included that we had flat-out never discussed and that were not in our textbooks. Although they were only counted for completion points, there were multiple grading issues on the quizzes, and two of the required practice exams were almost identical. That being said, none of this stuff was make-or-break; it was mostly just an annoyance. Clinicals were overall fine; however, at the Alden rehab clinical site, it was made very clear when we arrived that we were not wanted there, and upon entering the floor, we were told we'd just be in the way. Most CNAs were very hesitant to let us learn and often gave us mundane tasks or avoided us altogether; it is clear they frequently get a lot of students there. I had a background in caregiving going into this, but others who did not were in no way prepared. Skills lab did not teach us much of anything, and what we did learn contradicted what our clinical instructor would say, so it was a lot of learning as you go. In the end, basically everyone passed the class and received their certification, so that's what really mattered. I would recommend this class, especially for its flexible scheduling; it gets the job done.

The skills labs were especially helpful and gave us the hands-on practice we needed to feel confident. Brock and the other talented staff did a great job teaching the skills clearly and making sure we understood what we were doing. The clinical experience was also extremely valuable. It allowed me to put everything I had learned into practice and further develop my skills and understanding of what it truly takes to be a CNA. I'm very grateful for the education, encouragement, and hands-on experience I received at Avid CNA School. I would definitely recommend the program to anyone looking to become a CNA!
