Henry's Auto & Tire

Henry's Auto & Tire

(10 reviews)

HAPPY #ServiceStarShoutOut DAY, Y'ALL!…read more Listen, I have really bad luck with tires. I am always running over a nail or something else that requires a patch or sometimes (unfortunately), a whole new tire. It's a curse. We really love a local spot that's close to our house, but found ourselves in a real pickle the Friday before the Fourth of July weekend. We had a tire losing air, and they couldn't get us in until Monday because they were so busy. That's when I gave Henry's a call. Charles was so nice on the phone, and didn't even flinch when I asked if they could look at it and make a potential repair by the end of the day. I went and dropped it off right away, and they were so great with communication; without a few hours, they had found the culprit, patched it, and gave me a call to come pick it up. The whole thing cost $25 - I guess that's pretty standard for a patch, but it's definitely the least amount of money I've ever spent on a car repair. We will absolutely be using Henry's in the future and I'm so grateful for their professionalism and how quick they got us take care of!

Phil finishes helping first guy and then immediately asks second guy how he can help him. I let him finish helping second guy and when he asks me how he can help me I'm in complete disbelief. I asked him why he helped him before me and his response was "because he used to be the owner". I then tell him that I'm not sure if I want to give them my business and he says "fine you can leave, I don't have to help you". We exchanged a few more words and I left but that level of blatant racism was completely distasteful and I'll never return there. Hope this helps someone else that's thinking about giving this establishment their hard earned money.

Bob's quite literally saved me thousands of dollars. I had been dealing with an issue on my car for…read moremonths where the car would not shift properly. The first mechanic I took it to could not figure out the issue. The second one, a dealer, told me I needed a complete replacement, quoting me over 7 grand. When I took it to Bob's, the guy drove it hundreds of miles trying to figure out the issue, but couldn't get the problem to replicate. He explained the code he was getting and why he could not, "in good conscience," sell me a new transmission. He recommended I wait it out a bit longer so they could get the issue to replicate. Well, I'm glad they recommended that! He explained they believed it was a faulty sensor, that was it! Just a little under $500 fix, when the other mechanic assured me that it needed to be replaced for over $7.5k. He was honest, explaining that they couldn't be 100% certain, but they were fairly sure the sensor replacement would solve the issue. They saved me $7k. As a college student trying to pay my way through college, that extra $7k will help pay for my education and reduce the amount of loans I have to take out. I cannot thank them enough for troubleshooting and doing their jobs exceptionally well with consideration for my financial and personal circumstances. The care, compassion, and honesty Bob's showed me is unmatched. For any issues in the future, I'll be giving them a call, and I recommend anyone reading this do the same.

We will never be returning. All of this on top of $140 to look under our car to see what was wrong and not apply it to the repair, when the tow employee had already diagnosed in 5 min. They overcharge and customer service is terrible.

A great family run auto shop. I highly Recommend this shop…read more When I first went to Dave's, I had just come from dealing with another shop. That previous shop I had went to for all my car repair needs but after a change of management, they started to try to sell me services I didn't need. So I went to Dave's after a friend recommended them to me. The first thing I told Dave was how I was sick and tired of mechanics trying to oversell me services. He assured me that he wasn't in business to try to swindle people. I appreciated his honesty from day one but honestly, time would tell if he was the real deal. And they all are. I would always approach the shop with honesty and that honesty was reciprocated. I had to turn to the shop for many issues and even when I went to purchase a used vehicle, I called them and asked if there were certain things to look for. Dave spoke to me and walked me through certain things to look for. I've never had a mechanic take time to do that. I was loyal from that moment. I even go here to get my oil changes done when I am unable to do them myself. A few things they offer outside of car services: Restrooms, waiting room with tv and doll house and all toys for kids to play with, a few chairs to sit on, candy vending machines and free WiFi. There is also a small convenience store across the street if need be. They are located on Lackland iPad so the bus runs down in front of their shop too.

Thought the brakes felt a little spongy so I went back. They took her for a spin and said that everything was fine and they were right, I had just been riding on such bad brakes before that I was not used to how good it felt to drive on well maintained brakes! So I took it there today for what I thought was a bad valve stem on my front passenger tire. They took it in, did what they did, came back and said they just tightened the valve stem. NO CHARGE! That kind of service should be noted, so here I am.

AVOID THIS PLACE!…read more I've been a customer of this location for many years and have generally had good experiences. Part of that was due to Kevin, who was always straightforward, honest, and good about explaining options without pressure. Since he has retired, my recent experience hasn't been the same. I brought my son's car in because the blower motor had stopped working. I was charged $160 for an evaluation and then quoted over $500 for the replacement. After looking into the repair myself, I learned that the blower motor for this model is easily accessible through the glove compartment and the part costs around $40 online. The job also does not require removing the dashboard, as I was initially told. I understand shops need to charge for labor and overhead, but the estimate I received felt significantly higher than expected given the actual complexity of the job. Because of that, I chose not to proceed with the repair. I'm sharing this so other customers know to double-check estimates and ask questions. My past experiences here were positive, especially when Kevin was still working, but this visit didn't reflect the level of transparency I had come to expect.
