If you are like me, you immediately get visions of European Vacation with shared hallway baths and a mild case of herpes. Inter-Hotel de France is priced very affordably. In fact, the low price concerned me. As an American, anything at this price point probably has a body count. That was not the case at all here. It was a reasonable hotel and not at all sketchy as I feared. The bathroom could have been a little nicer. It was more of a typical European bathroom but it was clean and functional. Other than that, they had free WiFi, free parking and the "bar" downstairs is one of the cheapest places to drink in the world. There's not much around the hotel but if you are like me, you were really in town to visit Omaha Beach and distilleries so none of that matters.

Location is good if you're traveling by rail and the ferry shuttle bus drops off around the corner. There's ample restaurant options nearby including the excellent Taverne Normande just across the bridge. The main shopping district is a 15 minute walk (or take the tram north a few stops). Breakfast was nice, although only cold options were available. Still it was enough to get us moving in the morning. Didn't have much interaction with the staff, but they were friendly enough when we checked in. They also let us get into our room very early, which was much appreciated as it let us cleanup and decompress a bit after getting off the ferry. I wouldn't expect to get the same treatment every time, but it was nice that they offered.

Our three night stay was booked via a web site and everything went well with those arrangements. Price was pretty reasonable, too. And it is newish, with good technology, cable, WIFI, good a/c, secure key-card door locks and elevators requiring passcodes to operate. Breakfast wasn't bad, and better then many in Europe. Our room was comfy, though minimalist. Note: lights in hallways are motion-activated, which is a bit off-putting when the elevator door opens at night and it is pitch black until you step into the hall. (Our in-room safe did not work, though the hotel staffer sent to address it was very apologetic. But it was never repaired during our stay). We unluckily arrived right behind a twenty-person tour group and it took about 30 minutes for the one front desk clerk to process them, which wasn't bad but would have been better with two clerks! But on the other hand...Keeping down personnel costs seems to be a key goal. Sleeping rooms are not cleaned every night, but only at the end of your stay or 7 days, whichever comes first. But there are optional services upon request. Housekeeping was lackluster at best: the floors in our room were grimy, the kind that make you think twice about walking barefooted. The hallway carpets were visibly stained and just plain dirty. All in all, a safe, reasonably priced, modern hotel in an Uber-convenient location, with friendly, helpful staff. But potential guests should be aware of the slim-staffing and poor housekeeping aspects.

We loved another day spent exploring the wonderful historical town of Bayeaux and its beautiful Cathedrel Notre Dame. We stayed in a spacious, modern, and comfortable room in the building that was once most likely a carriage house. A stream was right outside our door, and lovely flowers and trees dotted the property. We had an outdoor seating area in the back overlooking the tennis courts, and there was seating in spots around the property. Dinner was served in the main cheateu and was one of the best meals we ate in all of France. The desserts were like works of art and tasted absolutely amazing. Meals are charged to the room and paid for at check out which is so convenient. Service was fantastic and accomodating, and staff cheerfully arranged a taxi service for us a few times. Off the beaten path but within walking distance to train station. I would highly recommend if you are looking for peace, quiet, and the beauty of nature.

I don't feel any items are home made and very limited selection. Given there are so many restaurants in Bayeux with much lower price. You don't miss anything.
