Great Care and Dedication to providing a road to recovery…read more Last March I had HIp Replacement and ended up canceling at trip to Israel because of the Surgery. The Surgeon Dr.Holmsley, did not want to immediately pursue Physical Therapy until my body had had a chance to heal and stabilize and that was going to take six to 12 months post surgery. In the meantime, my wife and I have signed up for another trip this coming March, again to Israel. Back in November, I had occasion to spend time with my Daughter and her family in Carlsbad and my son in law, videoed part of it . When I say the video and the awkward gait, it was time to do something. Consulted with Dr. Holmsley and he concluded it was time to work on strengthening the hip muscles and work on balance and coordination. They wrote a script for 6 to 8 sessions of Physical Therapy and gave me a list of Offices in my area. I am already a patient of Lakeside Family Physicians and chose them. Started out with Amanda and later Karen and they worked out a program for me that has really helped. The exercise routines are uploaded and my tablet accesses them when I am not it the office and I can work through the stretching exercises. When I was there (released a week ago) they would also work with me on the equipment to build strength and coordination. I have since joined Planet Fitness which has some of the same equipment as Lakeside and Amanda from Lakeside and Cody from Planet Fitness worked out a series of exercises that I could perform at Planet fitness in order to be able to enjoy my trip to Israel. Amanda and Karen were great and I appreciate all of their help and care.

Personable people and great customer service…read more I was in a car accident and I needed physical therapy for pain and tightness. I have never ever been to physical therapy before. I was scared of the unknown, I also am not what you would call an exercise enthusiast. I also have never had a massage for this. This place was great. They had a disarming charm about them and were more than willing to take extra time to help someone who was so totally out to sea when it came to physical therapy. My pain is greatly reduced since having been here for a series of sessions. Melvin is the man. He has excellent bedside manner. I was wearing a t-shirt supporting the Tarheels (GO UNC!) that made fun of Michigan and he made a great dry joke about how he went to Michigan and that this might hurt a lot. The facility is clean and not noisy. They also have some televisions but I was unable to watch them because when you are getting therapy you can't always be positioned towards a TV. One area for improvement would be privacy. There is some privacy but I am so shy I wish they had curtains or something so people could see me flailing about like an uninitiated idiot discovering the body for the first time. Novant is also really rabid about getting feedback. The wonderful staff aren't, but some unseen corporate mother-brain (where are my Metroid fans?) is out there sending you emails, letters, and calling you trying to solicit feedback.

Saw Dr. Hamm who was just fine. Yes, another 6 weeks of PT was ordered though none of that has…read morehelped the pain in my hips and lower back before, but okay, sure. 6 weeks later no improvement (and in many ways the pain was worse after PT.) So he shuffles me over to Dr. Haines. One aspect of my treatment is that no doctor wishes to view my issues for their complexity. Every doctor decides "It's the left hip!", as the only one with a replacement, and ignores the rest. Marvelous. Same thing here but cool, we try again. Haines is okay, except she seems highly disorganized. She promised to call after she viewed my xrays. She did not. Still haven't heard from her. I insisted that small bore MRIs aren't something I can use(nobody should, they're horrible), large bore or open MRIs only. She promised she would take care of that. She did not. Some scheduler called to set me up with a small bore and I refused, told her I explicitly told the doctor no small bore. The scheduler said she wasn't informed of that. So she transfers me somewhere for an Open MRI that ends up being in Rock Hill SC. Surely there is an Open MRI or large bore inside Charlotte. In fact, a search shows there are 5 or 6. So why, pray tell, am I being forced to drive to SC for an MRI? Not only that but some other scheduler is leaving me messages for an MRA appointment....but the return call number rings four times and hangs up. So how many schedulers did Dr Haines set me up with? What is going on here? None of the schedulers even know who ordered the MRI or the difference between large and small bore MRIs. Yes, I could use The Magical Portal I guess, though even my husband is sick of having to invent new passwords every time he tries to use it since the old ones disappear. At this point, I'd have 7-10 portals to juggle which I refuse to do. If someone wants to pay me to input patient information into some off-sight database where it can be hacked or shared with multitudes, they can do that. I get the feeling that Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute Sports Medicine really doesn't want me as a patient. I was hoping for an alternative to The Bone Yard of OrthCarolina but sadly this is not it. Wish we had access to a teaching hospitals and practices like Duke and Bowman-Grey, in Charlotte, rather than these hedge fund managed clinics.

I arrived 10 minutes before my scheduled time. The secretary ignored me until I said "excuse me"…read more She was so engrossed in watching her phone she did not realize I was there. She told me she would check me in at my scheduled time and to take a seat in the waiting area (suggesting the family waiting area). I decided I would wait in the patient waiting area as I was not confident she would remember I was there. Another patient came in and she rudely told her to come back in 5 minutes because she was on her lunch break and would not be checking anyone in until 1 PM. Without a beat she turned back to her phone and continued watching her phone. She was so rude. What a poor representation of this office! I say that because as soon as you get called back your experience changes. Everyone from the CNA who takes your vitals and blood sugar to the nurses and MD in the procedure through post procedure are all AMAZING. Everyone of them are professional yet so personable. They tell you what to expect as you are in the procedure and do a great job with the discharge instructions. The nurse even calls to check on you the next day! Now, that is excellent care and support! Dr Thakur is excellent. I highly recommend him for both in office evaluation and for your procedure. I feel 100% safe with Dr. Thakur's expertise. I would not go anywhere else. Don't let your front office experience alter your opinion of the care you will get when it really matters.
