Thompson Home Improvements - Thompson Home Improvement's poor craftsmanship

    Thompson Home Improvements

I can honestly say that Thompson Home Improvement isn't just another roofing company--it's run by…read moresomeone who truly cares about people, and I've had the privilege to experience that firsthand. The owner has been more than a boss or a coworker to me--he's been a mentor. He's taken the time to teach me the skills I need not only to be successful in roofing but to become independent and start building something of my own. I've worked for other roofing companies in the past, and none of them offered the opportunity for growth the way he has. Most places want you to stay in your lane and help them grow their business. But he's helped me grow mine--he's even helped get my painting business off the ground, connected me with jobs, and given me guidance when he didn't have to. That means the world to me. He let me get into sales when I had no experience at all, just to help me build confidence and learn how to connect with customers. That kind of trust is rare. He's shown me what it means to be professional, sincere, and fair in every part of the job. Every customer he works with walks away happy, and he consistently goes above and beyond--even doing free things he doesn't have to do just to make sure people are taken care of. He understands that people have bills, families, and real-life financial limits--so he offers financing, fair pricing, and flexible solutions instead of trying to drain someone's bank account. That kind of integrity is hard to find. If you're in or around Ashland County and need a roofing contractor--or just someone you can trust with your home--Thompson Home Improvement is hands down the best choice. This man genuinely cares about his customers, his crew, and his community. I'm proud to have learned from him and even prouder to recommend his business.

The 20+ year old siding that this company replaced was in a better state than the siding they put…read moreon just a few years ago. My siding is peeling away from the structure, falling out of tracks and simply not done correctly. I cant even tell you how many opportunities they have had to fix this and the problem persists. The company I contacted to fix their mess, funny enough, is on a job right now repairing other work that Thompson Home Improvement previously did. Not a good look and certainly hasnt been a great experience. Far from it. Update: Ive had the exterior of my home inspected by a professional roofing and siding company this morning. They confirmed what Ive suspected from the start - not a single part of this job was done properly. No splash guards on the gutters, horrible cuts on the siding, windows should have been re-capped and they were not. The wood strips they installed on the block foundation to mount the siding should have been run top to bottom and were not - leaving an unsightly seam (thats literally attached with adhesive caulk). Its so bad that multiple companies have now expressed that they arent even interested in trying to fix the issue because there is no fix short of redoing the entire job. Thanks for that, Kenny. So much for doing the job right the first time, I guess? The pictures don't lie, Kenny. If this is the kind of craftsmanship that youre ok with being attached to your name, that says everything. Now within 4 years of paying for my house to be sided and countless attempts to have you fix it, I have to have someone more qualified re-do the job you failed to perform to an acceptable level. Kenny will tell his customers he "believes in doing the job right the first time" and he "takes pride in his work", but folks, all the evidence points to the contrary from my experience. I regret ever giving Thompson Home "Improvement" a chance. Avoid this company unless you want perpetual issues and a job done less than proper.

I needed the handicap ramp repaired due to age. After several quotes I chose Dan Carmichael…read moreConstruction to do the work. The quote was $1250.00, the contract states, "includes all labor, material and haul away." I paid $625.00 up front, $625.00 was due at completion of work. The work began with the floor boards being pulled up, the support boards underneath were rotted. I requested the boards be replaced. The worker said he was not told to replace the boards. A call to Doug Carmichael requesting the boards be replaced (I discussed this with Doug at the time of quote). The worker was extremely rude, he argues with us about how this was going to cost him extra time, etc. When the floor boards were replaced, the slope of the ramp did not meet the driveway evenly, and the top of the ramp at the front door was lower than the original ramp. We could no longer get the wheelchair up the ramp and in the front door. I told the worker this needed to be corrected. He again argued with me that it was not his fault, he did what he was supposed to do, etc, etc. When the work was completed, Dan told me my balance was $1400.00, bringing the total to $2025.00. A few days later, I received a new statement in the mail with a completely different scope of work. The ramp was not done to code, it was wobbly, boards were sticking up, the rail wobbled, etc. we could not use it. I called another company for a quote to fix the work Carmichael did. The ramp was torn down and rebuilt for $1500.00. I have contacted Carmichael Construction requesting a refund of my money, they did not respond. I have filed a complaint on BBB, they did not respond, I have now filed a small claims case against them to get my money back. Steer Clear! This company is horrible

It was done ahead of schedule and significantly under budget. We were lead through the process step by step. We knew what was needed to be picked out and when it was needed to be done. Working with Austin, Joel, Kurt, and the others was a very enjoyable time. They are transparent, flexible and very relatable. We texted Austin with a question just yesterday and he showed up in person to make sure all was well. We could go on and on about how beautifully this has turned out. We highly recommend Apex to anyone looking for a fabulous house building or remodeling experience with a happy ending.

When we needed to move in shortly before the last work was completed, the workers were very respectful of us and finished the last few items quickly. We absolutely love the final product! Our home is exactly how we had imagined it. We would highly recommend Apex Builders to anyone!! Joe and Lynn
