As a result of this gentle prodding, on the third day of work he came downstairs telling me he was "shaking", then proceeded to accuse me of being "passive-aggressive" while repeatedly declaring himself "the best painter in Denver." He also outright threatened to walk off the job with the first room halfway done. After a painfully awkward exchange, I told him to do what he felt was best as a businessman and he ended up finally finishing the bedroom at the end of day 3, for which I was charged $850 including a $250 materials deposit. He also didn't show up until noon every day for some reason, and stayed until well after dark. Because everyone wants a workman still in the house while they cook and eat dinner, it's definitely not weird or inconvenient at all. After we parted ways, I called another crew in who painted the remaining few rooms in a single afternoon for $500. They did a just as good if not better job, and best of all, they didn't trauma dump on me.
