We have been living at PW for almost 3 months thus far and it's been overall a great experience. The apartment looks very chic and modern, and it feels very spacious for our family of 3. Here's what I've noticed so far: Pros: - the apartment itself is very cute, I especially love the fireplace - having a heated attached garage in the winter is life-changing - the amenities in the clubhouse are nice. I am looking forward to the spring and summer time so we can use the outdoor swimming pool and grilling area - the neighbors seem friendly overall - pet friendly - soft carpets in living room and bedrooms (carpeted bedrooms are a must for us) - close to many things (Geneva Commons, Meijer, Costco, Target, etc) - the ladies working in the leasing office are friendly and helpful (Susan and Frannie) - the maintenance guys are really friendly and fix things in a timely manner - beautiful landscaping (though you can't see it very well now because of all the snow ) Cons: - there is only one trash area in the entire apartment complex and you have to put your trash in the car and drive it down there (unless you happen to live in the apartments closer to the dumpster I guess) Personally, it grosses me out to have to load up my trash in my car every other day, so I feel like they would have benefitted from spacing out dumpsters throughout the complex for convenience sake, or at least offering a valet trash service which I would have gladly paid for. Just my thoughts, though. ‍ - the application process was the most tedious I've ever had to deal with, much more than the norm. I've lived at multiple luxury apartments across the country prior to living here and the process here was definitely more tedious than elsewhere. It was definitely worth the extra effort though because I enjoy living here. Just a heads up. - When we moved in, their cleaning lady didn't do a great job cleaning our new place. The property management told us this was a new company due to covid so they didn't usually have this dilemma. The housekeeper left poop marks in the toilet, garbage under the bathroom vanity, in the closet, and under the oven, dirty bathroom mirrors, and a clump of wet dirty clothes in the washing machine with the door closed (making it prone to mold growing in there). However, the good thing is that after we complained to the property manager and showed her photos and videos of the problems, she hooked us up with Amazon gift cards and the cleaning company promised us a free cleaning in the future. They solved the issue quickly, so I can tell you that they have great customer service skills when issues arise for their tenants. They offered to send another cleaning person, but I had already cleaned it myself by that point so I declined that offer. - this might just be the placement of my driveway, but parking can be pretty tight depending on the location of your driveway. My driveway backs out next to some parked cars, and when it snows the neighbors park their cars sticking way out into the road, consequently making it difficult for me to get in/out of my garage/driveway with my full size SUV sometimes. - the tandem "2 car" garage does not fit 2 cars. We've tried. Our 2 SUVs won't fit in there. Perhaps if you have one large car and one small car or two small cars you could fit them, but don't count on 2 large SUVs fitting in there. We ended up using our tandem garage as half storage and half parking for one car. It's a tight squeeze to get it in but we've been managing. It's definitely worth it to get into a heated car in the wintertime. Overall, we are enjoying our time here at PW so far! I would recommend this apartment complex to anyone looking for a good quality of life in the St. Charles area. read more

Great amenities, but expected for the price, and cannot be shared with friends outside of Prairie Winds, so your pool days may be a little lonely. Management sucks and runs the compound like it's a prison. I have heard many horror stories and have personal stories with how bad management is. Don't expect them to help you at all with literally anything, and expect to be stuck paying rent well after you terminate your lease. read more

Be aware when renting from Prairie Winds which is known as TLC Management Company that they may not work with you AT ALL if you have a serious emergency and need to change any terms in your lease despite situations where they would have no financial loss. If you have an unexpectant death (be it you, someone in the apartment or immediate family member, etc.), work transfer, financial hardship, or even a mental health or physical disability, they may not renegotiate the terms of your lease. They may not deviate from their interpretation of the lease and not discuss further even if your attorney has a different interpretation of the lease. Your only option is to continue with the lease as they interpret it, spend thousands of dollars going to court or walk away which they will then turn you over to a collection agency. Do not sign their lease unless you feel 100% confident you will not have any serious emergencies that may require you to make adjustments to the lease. read more

Do not ever move into this place. The management is horrific. The amenities are usually not working. There is mold in the units. The managers don't follow their own rules. New manager parks in handicap spot. Another leasing agent in pool with residents during covid. Former manager husband smoking on property. Would not allow a husband and wife to live together as the wife's credit wasn't perfect. However plenty of people live there without both People being on lease. Pitbulls reside on property yet says not allowed. Beautiful property. Not built well. Overpriced. Try shodeen propert my Prairie Center. A lot for your money and amazing management. read more

Great location, friendly neighbors, etc. We lived here for 3 years and had a few notes - - Not well constructed. Our bedroom door was crooked and never closed correctly. Cracks in the walls and the ceiling. You can hear anyone if they're outside. - Parking is a nightmare. Our garage was blocked many times and we couldn't get in or out - had to complain several times to management. At one point my husband waited 30 minutes until he finally went back to the leasing office and threatened to tow the car blocking us so that we could get out of our own garage before the person in the office would do anything about it. - You're not allowed to smoke on the property, but maintenance smokes in the garage by the gym. I would smell cigarette smoke many times when working out and saw them standing next to a cracked open garage door. - My car was parked outside at one point and the team shoveling snow plowed it up behind my car so that my car was actually stuck and I had to dig it out. - During 2020, I was working from home in an important Zoom meeting. Maintenance barged in the front door shouting for "annual maintenance". I opened the bedroom door and asked him if he could please be quiet while he does what he needs to do because I'm a zoom call for work. He says "sure", and then proceeds to set my fire alarms off twice. The second year I told the office that I would need to schedule this "annual maintenance" request as not to interfere with my work meetings (like the previous year). I was told they "don't do that" and was made to feel silly for even asking. (I'm sorry, but there isn't a single business out there that is allowed to just barge into your home if you ask to set up a scheduled time. That's treating residents as if they're criminals without any rights.) - Upon moving out, I was 8 months pregnant (my due date was actually very close to our lease ending date) and I told the staff that we would be moving out about two months early. We were not allowed to break the lease. I agreed to that, but then I was told we needed to set up a "move out appointment". Obviously being 8 months pregnant, I knew that we would not have time for that so I asked to schedule it early. Wasn't allowed. Instead my husband had to leave his 2 week old baby to drive 45 minutes to the complex and walk around for a five minute meeting with maintenance. Absolutely ridiculous. - My husband asked if he could schedule this meeting at 4pm (after work) and was told by the girl in the office that the "latest they could do" was 3:45. He had to leave work early to get there on time, and yet they still ended up being 25 minutes late (so technically it could have been after 4 and he wouldn't have had to leave work early) Basically this place is okay to live - close to everything, etc - but the management doesn't have much respect for their residents. read more

I have lived in Prarie Winds for 20 months now when we moved from Puerto Rico to Illinois and I got to tell you that it was the best decision that we make as a family. We love our Community, our Neighbors and all the amenities that we have; specifically the amazing Gym, the Grilled area, the indoor pool and hot top; but my favorite is the resort style pool were we spend all spring and summer creating memories with our family and neighbors. I am currently on my second year living here in Prairie Winds and I can say I have seen it evolve since it was built. New ownershiP, employees and many new residents. I have nothing but positive remarks for all of it. the new employees, the ladies in the office and the guys taking care of the grounds and apartments are all wonderful people. They are not just creepy faces driving around in the golf carts that leave you wondering who they are and why in the world you trust them to come into your apartment. I have built a rapport with every employee here and they are all down to earth, great people. They treat you like family. I love that the apartments feel more like town-homes with their own garages and addresses. The countertops and appliances are all good quality. High ceilings and open floor plans make them feel very spacious. The gym is by far the best you will ever have in an apartment complex! The hot tub and TWO pools are absolutely amazing. I greatly appreciate how it is all in one building, the gym, the hot tub/pool combo, and most importantly the MAILROOM. I have seen too many complexes where their mailroom is either outside or under some poor grade ceiling overtop of them all. The mailroom has a community computer and a fancy package storage system that is truly one of a kind! This whole complex is absolutely wonderful! read more

Resort style living all year long. We've lived here for almost two years now and are just spoiled by all this place has to offer. Starts with the professional and courteous staff. Hosting monthly get togethers and contests, the staff works hard to foster a sense of community. The many amenities being utilized and appreciated by all our neighbors, not only has created lasting friendships, but has made this place a home. The comfortable appointments and features of all the units will make it hard to consider moving anywhere else. You've got to come see it yourself. read more

Cannot say enough good things about Prairie Winds Apartments! From the staff to the amenities to the apartment upgrades, everything is TOP NOTCH! If you are going to rent in St. Charles this is the place, hands down. I love that it feels like a townhome community and not a typical rental atmosphere. Having a 2 car attached garage saves us from having to pay for a storage unit. The park is great for little ones and we really enjoy the onsite gym and outdoor kitchen. There is also a business room that I've used several times for remote meetings. We absolutely love it here - thank you for building this amazing community for my family to live! read more

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Ever since the new management (TLC) took over Prairie Winds has gone way down hill. The garbages are constantly over flowing to the point where people just throw their stuff (even mattresses) into the designated trash area. They failed to fix the fire pit for over 6 months and the staff is extremely rude and unprofessional once you sign a lease. They rarely return calls after complaints and sent out an angry email in July about the pool guest policy when multiple staff members have brought multiple guests after the emails were sent out. The pools are always dirty and I have also found literal human feces in both the hot tub and indoor pool on two seperate occasions, I can not make this up, it was disgusting. Prairie Winds prides themselves on being the best luxury apartments in the area but it is so under kept and the staff does not care about their residents at all. I lived in the complex that backs right up to Lowe's and as a female I do not feel safe about truckers coming in and out 50ft away from my apartment. The noise is so awful and the truckers come in at 12am every night and I am constantly restless because of it. They gave no discounted rates during covid even though we were not able to use any of the amenities (even the grills and fire pits) that are included in the lease. The walkway between Lowe's and my complex is constantly littered with trash that no one picks up. The residents are awful and have parties after hours at the pool almost every night and they treat the community like trash because TLC lets them. To top it off when we first moved in we complained about the carpet because of urine stains and they said they would replace it at no charge but when our lease ended we told them we were were not going to resign so they tried to charge us over 1k from the same carpet stains claiming it was from our dog who has never had an accident. They lied about changing the carpet because the original 2017 tag was still on it and then tried to get what little extra money they could from us after we said we were not coming back. If you are considering signing a lease at Prairie Winds I would strongly reconsider. read more

I have a good friend in Chicago whose home is for sale and would like to move farther west. As a long-time St. Charles resident, I told her there were many nice places in St. Charles to relocate to. Last week we visited Prairie Winds Apartments to look at their models, as their large sign out front states "open 7 days a week". We were asked by one of the two young ladies at the reception desks if we planned on moving within 30-60 days. Because my friend has not yet sold her home, she could not positively affirm within that time period. Consequently, we were told we could not see the models! We were told to look in the computer! I was completely taken aback. I have never encountered such discriminatory rudeness. At best, it appeared they were simply too lazy to show us the apartments. Subsequently, we visited the Hunt Club and Ascend apartments, and were treated with appropriate courtesy; they were stunned when we told them of our Prairie Winds experience. These two receptionists need to be reschooled in common courtesy by their management. My friend has eliminated Prairie Winds and will not be back. read more
