As soon as I start driving to the park my dog gets so excited. Meg, the owner, truly loves all animals. Each day you get a report card letting you know who they played with and what they enjoyed doing. It is fun to look at all of the pictures, and the cost is so affordable. A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than they love themself. Let them have some and make a new friend. The Bark Park is that place.

Fantastic Community structure!…read more There are wonderful rolling hills which create natural divisions in which dogs will group, so it's like having several yards within one. The pond is deep enough and contoured enough to provide a lot of variation and slope. The physical build of the docks is top notch. There is enough shade at the pond for humans to be comfy. The bathing facilities are so "Temple Grandin" with full length windows at each of the very clean walk-in tubs, and they all look out over the park! My pup LOVED IT. Be prepared to state your animal's positive and/or challenging behaviors in written detail, and give yourself enough time to really read the community guidelines and education. Last but not least, it doesn't hurt to have an attached dog-friendly tavern which occasionally has food via one food truck or another. It's almost worth moving there for this park!

I have found a really nice smaller dog park in Kalamazoo. There isn't the stress of Meadow run. There's a centralized area where people and dogs socialize with plenty of benches so people can sit and watch their dogs easily. There are objects like trees, benches and a fire hydrant to help get a visual on area to look to pick up poop bags available ! The park isn't enormous so dogs disappear! People are very friendly. Then later she put her dog on the leash and it went after a different dog but she still claims the dog "showed no aggression". Great area but unfriendly dogs.

An important note is that there are two parks here. There is a small dog park and the large one. The rest of this review is for the big dog park: There is a two tier fencing system, where you can open one gate, take your dog in, take the leash off, and then let them run into the park. There are also poop bags in this area, and it is expected that you pick up after your dog. It has two major parts, one being flat and where most people will hang out. There are benches for people to sit and hose water for the dogs. On the other side, there is a small hill with trees in which squirrels live, so some dogs like to chase them from tree to tree. There are also chairs throughout, so you don't have to be by people unless you want to. Due to the large size, it may take some time to get to your dog if you need to so keep that in mind and stay close to your dog if you are worried they could get into trouble. Overall, I highly recommend this dog park to anyone with energetic dogs that like to run!

This park is also free, donations accepted. The park has a fenced area for small dogs, big dogs and a walk area that is similar to hiking with plenty of trees with your dog (this part is leashed). My small dog enjoyed the whole park. There is a place for water and more than enough trash bags if you forgot yours to pick up after your dog. Lots of trees for shade and a small area to also get shade if you'd prefer that instead. It is a little sandy in some parts so I'd recommend wearing shoes that you don't mind getting dirty..and be prepared to get sand in your car.. I'll be back if I'm in the area again. Highly recommended!

On a…read morebeautiful December day, we ventured to Marcellus (Cass County) to explore the diverse woodlands and wetlands of Spirit Springs Sanctuary, a 124-acre preserve owned by the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy (SWMLC). It was named Spirit Springs in part because of the surface stream and groundwater seeps on the site, but also because it is a place that lends itself well to peaceful reflection and the renewal of mind, body and spirit. Classic glacial topography of the preserve features rolling woodlands that surround a 7-acre pond and borders 65 acres of spring-fed wetlands. A small creek connects the pond and wetlands. The mixed trees and evergreen woods are punctuated by openings where prairie plants grow. The wetlands include a swamp. I need to return in the spring or summer to see the wide array of plant communities. A network of maintained trails provides access to the various areas of the preserve. Come prepared for walking woodland trails and perhaps some wet areas. The trails are well marked and are relatively easy to moderate. It was a great day to be outside to enjoy SW Michigan's nature.
