The first guy at the top selling fruit is a jerk and asks for money if you need any help at all AFTER he helps you, what a scammer, don't buy anything from him. He was the first and only person in Portugal we met that wasn't nice. If you need to ask someone a question or for help don't go to him, go to the guys below him, and definitely buy stuff from the guys below him, they were very helpful and nice.

Having travelled all over the world in my 20s I can honestly say that this area is my all-time favourite. Throughout my childhood my family and I have had many unforgettable holidays here, so much so that my sister has chosen this place to celebrate the biggest day of her life in May 2011. Canico restaurant has very cleverly been built within the cliffs looking over Lagos Bay. To get to the bay below you can take an elevator down through the rocks, something I seem to want to do again and again and never tire of! The restaurant serves choices of Mediterranean cuisine as well as many traditional Portuguese dishes. There's a calming atmosphere during the day and a fantastic magical feel at night with the back-lit cliffs and local DJs or live music performing on the sands making you want to dance under the stars throughout the night! The beach itself is small but perfect, with crystal clear turquoise waters for bathing. Try taking a stroll and explore the many interconnecting quirky bays nearby. This really is such a memorable place that im somewhat reluctant to share it with others, but somehow I just can't keep it to myself either! I can guarantee you certainly won't be disappointed!

The shots from the cliffs themselves are the most ready for Instagram, but I'd suggest taking the stairs down and spend some time on the beach. It's a beautiful serene spot that is worth the climb up/down the stairs. As many have suggested, this is better for the young and limber given the amount of stairs necessary to make it down to the beach.

This location is a small beach and was only 2.3 miles from our rental location. It's very secluded and beautiful with soaring cliffs but not a difficult approach on the stairs (you'll find some beaches are incredibly difficult to access in this region). Parking however is very limited and considering we were 4 of the 16 people there, I have no idea how that works when it's busy! There is a beach bar/snack restaurant on site, life guards, lounge chairs and umbrellas for a fee (I think 20euros got you two chairs & umbrella for the day), toilet and shower facility.

Just like in most of Europe, it IS a topless beach, and most of the ladies just wear thongs. This beach is amazing for couples! Just sayin' ((wink wink)). Neither one of us wanted to leave! This beach isn't as long as others, but it's more lively. Many people use floats, SUP, kayaks and the boats as I mentioned zip by, which is super fun to watch! If you're here, definitely grab one to visit the caves!! The Benagil Cave has been something I've gawked over for years on my Pinterest board! Heading there was honestly a dream come true! It's stunning and wondrous! Grab your tickets early from the little red booth. We did the 30 min tour and felt that was adequate. You can swim to the cave, and perhaps if I wasn't with my children I would have attempted it. I wasn't afraid of the distance, more of the boats and propellers, although they captains were amazing at navigating! Oh, and keep checking back if they're sold out! They often have cancellation tickets for immediate departure! The beach is very clean and some of it is in the shadows of the rocks, so there's natural shade for those wanting to escape the sun, although in the dead of summer, the sun was shining bright, but it was very comfortable temps! Like the most enjoyable beach weather ever. There's a few nice seafood restaurants atop the hill and a stand where you can grab cold local brews for €2.50. DO NOT MISS THIS BEACH if you find yourself in the Algarve. We were so blown away by this and the other beaches in the area we wanted to come back to Portugal just for them! There are other tours available as well, when you walk through the parking area all the tour ticket booths are there but they were selling out when I was there in August. Plus if the tide is high or waters are too rough they won't be able to take the boats into the caves, so check ahead of time if you can! Definitely recommend coming here.
