I hired Powers Studios, and fell for their marketing. I had good engagement photos, but I didn't like the wedding photos. I was sold on the extra photographer because their explanation was one would be aimed at us, and one at guests for the same events (to get a fuller picture). Nope, many of our shots were two photographers from different angles. We did their online form and hired them just a few months before our wedding. Somehow they told us the two we selected as our top photographers were available. I kinda feel like it was not true and just propaganda. I just wanted a few photos that I can print and show around my home. I spent $500 after the wedding to take more photos. Also, part of my anger is that my family is latino, and dark skinned. Nearly all of the photos did not include my family. I gave them a list of 4-5 people that were important to us and to get photos (my dad, my aunt). I have one photo of my aunt where she's the focus (she was my mother figure growing up) and she's looking from the side, and I have I believe 3 of my dad. I'm not sure how this happened, but I do have one of my dad that I just love. I asked for about two dozen to get edited one way or another and they tried to charge me just to do that thing you see online where only one color is highlighted in a photo and the rest is greyscale. I couldn't believe the audacity that to do that to just two photos they would charge me. There's free online software, but when you spend around $1k for photographers, you'd think they could spend a short amount of time. Pros: quick turnaround on engagement photos, good engagement photos, friendly Cons: treated me like they were doing me a favor, second photographer was not noticeably adding a benefit, poor photo quality (I'll attach some of the ones they sent me), did not take photos of two of the people I asked to be highlighted, didn't take many photos of the dark skinned people at my wedding. This is one of the most expensive photographers we sought a quote from, so I expected better. In response to my post, Seppi wishes I had reached out to him sooner. I emailed him multiple times regarding not the quality and costs. No offer for reshoot, refund were offered. His response is dose genius. Creative. Dynamic. Portland. Three words to describe Powers Photography, as I've been very impressed with all they've had to offer thus far. There are certainly a dime a dozen photographers who specialize in all sorts of special events, but many of them aren't in the same league as these pros. Capturing the moment is a skill best practiced by the photographers of PPS. Like many before me, I took part in a series of wedding shots (as one of many groomsman) during the summer time and the results that came of it were simply spectacular. Initially I didn't think much of the photographers as they didn't seem to be extremely demanding for our poses, have a vocal sense of direction, and they weren't lugging around much equipment. But after seeing the photos they took post processing, it really is about the person behind the lens, as opposed to the lens itself. They were organized, flexible with large groups of folks, great at composition, and even had a plan for an itinerary of photo taking throughout the day. Not all of us were made to be models, but they did a stellar job of showcasing everyone's best sides. If it were simply about the portfolio, they'd get the job any day. I am a photographer myself, so this decision was a very important one for me. Our initial meeting with Ben was pretty amazing, he answers all your questions before they are even asked, at the end of the meeting I couldn't really think of anything he hadn't covered, which made me feel like he really new what he was doing. They have a lot of online tools you can use to help them figure out which of their photographers will be the best match for you, we wound up with Laurel, Ben's wife, and I am so glad we did. We met for our engagement shoot, they had someone booked right before us that was running late, but no big deal, we were seated in their Pearl office and offered a glass of wine or a bottle of beer. The session with Laurel was great, she is so sweet and really knows what she is doing. What matters most is the big day though, and it was pretty much flawless. Laurel really had a handle on what needed to be happening and moved people around as needed, even people who weren't guests at my wedding! She felt like more a friend than a hired employee, and when things that were beyond her control were quite going right she knew what to do. My wedding day was one of the best days of my life, and now I have tons of beautiful pictures to remember it. Complete waste of money. We have a few hundred garbage quality photos from our 2 photographers and none of them are as good as random photos taken by our guests with their phones. I felt good about the cost going in because all of the examples we had seen were amazing. But it turns out the people they call up to do the job aren't going to be the people that took those beautiful shots that sold you on Powers. We paid for 2 photographers and they still managed to miss a lot of moments through the ceremony and reception. It was a good thing I paid for the RAW files because the colors were completely wrong and at least I could find someone who has a clue to attempt to fix that but you can't fix poor focus and a poor eye for shooting. We asked for someone who could do night shots and instead we have a bunch of poorly lit junk where you can often see the photographers equipment behind and around us. I was absolutely blown away with how bad the quality of the photos were. We would have been better off getting a family friend with some mid tier equipment to do the wedding for us. read more

We booked Powers almost a year in advance because I fell in love with their work at the Seattle Bridal Show. It is evident that they want to be sure they met our needs. We took a couple of surveys to help determine our photographic preferences and assign us to the appropriate photographer. When we first began our wedding planning process, things were overwhelming. There were so many options, styles, and details. After hearing that Powers was a partner alongside our venue, we decided to give them a call and chatted through what their services were like. We were sold on how they assigned a photographer to your event - by matching the type of photos and style you liked. We were paired with Seppi and we immediately knew we would be comfortable and enjoy our time together. We did not do a first look, but we did have a quick in person meeting at our venue to walk through the space and look at where photo places may be. Seppi took charge but also was extremely approachable. He was calm and funny but still commanded attention and natural leadership just oozed from his pores. Leading up to our event, Seppi had an automated system that checked in with us from time to time.It was perfect for people that needed reminders, or had questions that they didnt know the answer to and having his email pop up checking in reminded them to ask. On our wedding date, Seppi let me know in advance that there was some traffic (we were sitting in it as well!) and kept me abreast of any time he was leaving to go shoot the guys before the ceremony, etc. The second shooter we had that day was amazing as well - her detail shots and guest pictures were really nice to be able to have, since we werent able to enjoy some of those smaller things! Seppi made sure to come up and say goodbye as his time was ending that night and asked if there was anything else we wanted or needed before he left. We had multiple guests say they barely saw him all evening - a true testament to his professionalism in that he didnt need to be all up in people's faces to get the best shots. We opted to upgrade our package to get photos back within 2 weeks. They actually only sent the teaser at 2 weeks and our full photo package at 3 weeks (which was a bummer and felt a bit like a let down - but only because we were so excited for the full shot rundown). We now have all 800+ photos and can do as we wish with them. I truly appreciate every thing the Powers team did for us and would highly recommend people look into their studio as an option for your upcoming event. read more

After checking out several different photography studios, I decided on Powers. They were very responsive and helpful in the weeks leading up to the wedding, budget-friendly, and came with glowing recommendations from everyone I talked to. Our photographer, Juan, was friendly, professional and patient. (Neither of us really like getting our picture taken and some of the poses felt completely awkward!) He would stop every so often to show us the pictures on his camera, which I really appreciated. We've only seen the engagement photos so far, but they are great. I even got a discount on expedited processing, which was WELL worth the additional cost, since people were already demanding photos the next day. One thing to keep in mind is that Powers operates in a very hands-on way. You are responsible for looking through hundreds of photos and filling out several style surveys, which can be a long process. Time-pressed or hands-off brides may not be thrilled with this style. read more

We used Power Sudios for our wedding photography in June. Mike was our photographer. I cannot say enough about how truly awesome Mike was to work with. After going through the initial survey to decide what kind of wedding photography my husband and I wanted, they matched us with Mike. We met him at a low key brew pub to run through what we wanted our day to be like. He is clearly an expert in his trade and made me feel extremely confident in him as our photographer. My husband and I are not photographers, so our goal was to hire someone that knew what they were doing so we didn't have to think about it anymore. Mike was the perfect choice for us. I wish we would have spent the time on the survey initially and saved the time on going to weird old smelling photographers houses/studios to look through their books from weddings they shot in the 90's. The staff in the Pearl were really helpful, and the photographer more than professional and great to work with. We had three meetings with the photographer prior to the actual event and these were really helpful. I used Powers Photography for both my engagement and wedding photos and am so happy I did! Right from the start, they were easy to work with. Erin was super responsive to all of my emails. Mike Keo was our photographer for both photo sessions and was great to work with - super friendly and fun. My husband and I aren't big on having our photos taken and were worried about awkward and unnatural poses. But Mike was tricky and managed to take a slew of candid shots in between poses that showed our personalities and turned out to be our favorite pictures! The quality of the photos is simply outstanding. They might seem pricier than some other photographers, but you more than get what you pay for with Powers. Our decision to work with Powers Studios was easy. Powers was one of the few high-quality photography studios in the Portland area that gives you the digital rights to all of your photos (you don't have to purchase them separately). That was a must for my husband. They also had great reviews, friendly staff, and competitive prices. Working with Powers Studios was just as easy. Everyone we came in contact with throughout the process was friendly, approachable, and professional. Erin was very helpful and responsive to emails. After completing the style survey, Powers "matched" us with Josh, our photographer. We met with him before the wedding to get to know him a bit (and vice versa) and tell him what we were looking forward to seeing in our photographs. He was pleasant and showed us a picture he had taken outdoors this winter and we were blown away. We knew we had found the right match. Josh was flexible and very patient the day of, despite the commotion and language barrier (my husband's family came from all over the world and were speaking Spanish). Josh even stayed later than contracted to get a picture of me in my short get-away dress (a last minute necessity since we had a sudden heat wave and it was 95 degrees that afternoon). We received our pictures in a timely manner (much quicker than I expected, to be honest) and they looked great. The resolution is amazing and the overall quality is exceptional. He caught some very special moments and did a good job of photographing all of the guests. My only disappointment was that among all of the beautiful photos, there is not one special photo that I swoon over. Perhaps we could have used some more coaching or direction in our posing. First, when I was researching about Powers Photography Studios, I was very impressed with the reviews they have online. I then went to their site and was impressed with the photo gallery I saw. I then contacted Powers, and I received a quick response to my questions. Seppi was great in answering my queries by email, including any follow up questions I have about the quote and the overall process. I was impressed that my future husband and I would be given copyright to the photos, as not that many photographers where we are located would give away the copyright to the material. It was one of the things that was most important to me, as over half of my guest were from outside the country, and I would rather have them free access to their photos by me emailing them the photos instead of them having to order to a website in the USA and waiting for the delivery of the photos by mail. When my fiancé and I first met out photographer, Cameron, in June, we were impressed with his confidence in being able to take beautiful photos, regardless of the weather. Our wedding was set for December in the Oregon Coast, where the weather changes every 5-10 minutes with high probabilities of high winds and plenty of rain. Cameron had a positive and cheerful attitude, without being overly so. We were sure that we could leave everything in his hands and the results would be wonderful. Cameron was also very receptive to all our requests before the wedding, such as planning for a small photo session with our pet dog who was not allowed in the venue (she was going to be outside in the car), and a sunset photo in the beach which is within short driving distance from the reception. Cameron was game for photos on the beach, regardless whether it would rain or shine. When it came to the actual wedding, Cameron certainly delivered. He was there much earlier to be able to capture the ceremony and reception site before guests arrived. He did not need much instructions, but still took the photos that we requested to be included, plus more. He did give instructions to certain poses, but it did not seem that forced or overbearing. He was certainly busy, darting in and out of our sight to take many photos. He was also welcome to odd requests, including when some guests would ask him to use their camera to take their pictures. The guests liked his cheerfulness throughout the event. Lastly, even when it was storming outside and the wind and the rain was blowing sideways, he was still happy and game for taking photos on the beach, and in the end, he even said that everything was "worth it" for the shots that were taken on the beach during the twilight. Powers Photography was very professional throughout the whole process. I think the only negative I would say is that calls mostly go to voicemail, and messages sent by phone many not be returned as quickly as emails. I would suggest sending all questions by email since they were answered very quickly. I highly recommend Powers Photography Studios. They definitely have the experience in wedding photography (I think 20+ years), and I had great confidence in them, especially since they only do wedding sessions. We opted not to do pre-wedding session, but Powers do offer them. If Powers did other events, I would certainly consider using their services again. read more

I have been waiting to write this review because we are STILL dealing with the back and forth of the survey, points, and everything you have to submit after the wedding. I still have all of the paperwork, just to make sure everything we agreed upon is being done accordingly. I feel as though there could be a much easier way to submit everything. Erin was very friendly and helped a ton when I wrote to her about the frustration I had before the wedding, and not hearing back from our photographer in a timely manner. His auto reply to email was, if he did not get back to us, resend the email. This is not a appropriate reply to a email in the business world. I believe this is why the company has the business end, and the photography end. Our pictures in the end turned out amazing! Vey happy we used them! We received the Blue Ray disc on time, and the Thumb Drive we now hear is on back order. I was expecting to receive everything in the time promised. We payed extra to get the pictures back sooner, since we will be moving. We did not get everything on time. So we payed extra, and received only half of what was promised. I want Sara at Powers Photography to be my new best friend. Seriously. She was so wonderful to work with, and as our main photographer, she was the right person to capture our big day. My (now) husband (woooo!) and I can be pretty goofy, and Sara understood our style. She had an initial consultation with us on Skype from across the country, which was incredibly helpful. You want your photographer to mesh with you so they capture the day as you would want it captured, and she definitely did that. She also walked us through the timeline and was flexible when I wanted her to do some more serious shots on the day of. Our 2nd shooter was Zach, and he was fantastic on the big day as well. He had a great time with the groomsmen, and then helped Sara on shots out in the vineyard of my husband and I in order to get a bunch of different angles. I had a good experience working with Powers Studios and having Seppi as my wedding photographer. They demonstrated professionalism through prompt communication, an easy to navigate website, and fast editing and return of photos. Our photographer was SO GOOD at organizing the group/family photos and determining the appropriate dynamics. He took initiative and didn't depend on me to figure and of it out--I was very impressed. The quality of the service was quite exceptional but with some exceptions. A few downsides I experienced: 1. Several of my photos--even some of my favorites--had sun glares in bad places (ex: directly over my FACE). Pretty frustrating to deal with. However, they have been receptive to this complaint and are working on editing a bit more (not sure how much longer it will take because it's some pretty intense editing that needs to be done). 2. There are powerlines going across the background of several of the vineyard shots when there were plenty of other places to take those pictures other than in front of powerlines. I didn't notice them at the time of the shoot, otherwise I would've pointed it out because they *kinda* kill the whole feel of the nature of a vineyard... 3. Out of 600 photos, I have about 3-4 of just my husband and I looking at the camera. It made it very difficult to determine which of those few shots we would use to send out in our thank you cards to our guests. 4. A lot of (but not all of) our photos are over-posed (lots of eye-gazing, overly-angled and unnaturally awkward head tilts). Overall, I would recommend Powers Studios, but bear in mind the issues I had and make a point to let them know you don't want those things to happen :) read more

I can't believe this place doesn't have a review yet. They are incredible! Powers Studios recently shot my wedding and all I can say is wow. From beginning to end, they are second to none. They start off by meeting with you and have a process you go through to match a photographer to your personality. This is important because you want your photographer to be in tune with your style. Even though there was a hiccup before the wedding and we had to go with a different photographer than what we were originally matched with, you could tell they really emphasize customer service. The owner, Ben, made it right with us immediately and offered us some benefits if we'd be willing to switch photographers. He said he had another person who was a great fit for us and boy was he right. Our photographers, Joni and Sam, were amazing. They worked their butt off and we had people coming up to us all day asking where we found her. Everyone was amazed at how hard they worked. And it wasn't just the work ethic. The quality of the pictures we have seen so far is amazing. They seem to have captured the day exactly as we would want. Wanted some photos of my daughters & myself in my wedding dress for my husband for Father's Day & wow did they deliver! Laurel came onsite to the Rose Garden 3 days before Father's Day (I didn't know it usually takes 4-6wks to get the photos back). I asked her if I could at least get 1 photo sent for a card. She did better then that...had all the photos set up online for me by the next day! The photos were better then expected and their packages are very reasonable. Before the wedding he kept in touch, worked with me, planned everything out, and even kindly rearranged plans when I had an incident with my venue (which will not be receiving a good review). During my wedding he was not just "the photographer". He checked in on me, asked if he could get me water or anything else. His main goal was obviously to keep me calm and relaxed while he took care of everything. We had an extremely large family and wedding party and he made pictures quick and painless, even with small children. We had Powers Studio photograph our wedding this last summer and it was a great experience. We really liked doing the style survey to help pair us with a photographer because my husband and I had trouble deciding which style fit both of us. It was fun to go through the survey together and talk about what we liked and didn't like. Our photographer was great, she made us feel very comfortable and she was very go with the flow throughout the whole day. Our blog was my favorite that they sent us which I immediately posted to my Facebook page. I only wish we had paid for some more time to get more reception shots with the guests but ran out of time, which is typical the day just flies by and it's so hard to get it all in under a time limit. So my suggestion is to always add more time to the end so you get all your memories captured. :) read more
