Hey hey hey, who else had a great day!?!? Papa Chevius decided today was the day to embark on his journey to physical and emotional well-being. Ever since my pomeranian Micheal died (we miss you micheal!) I have been struggling to cope with the WEIGHTS that life throws at you. So I decided, what other way to LIFT this burden than to pump some iron. I came fully decked out in my sweatsuit and I was ready to kick butt! I mainly stayed near the free weight area to do curls. My little buggy whips were soon becoming pythons. It didn't take long for me to tuckered out as I usually only get in my exercise during grape harvest season. Powerhouse Gym is a great gym and has all the equipment I need and want. There are people from all different experience levels, from competitive bodybuilders to people just looking to stay in shape, so I have never felt judged going in there. I recommend it to anyone in the area! read more

The owner is awesome and always willing to help any gym goer with any questions they may have. He is a world class body builder so he knows his stuff. I visit the area a couple times a year and powerhouse is the closest gym near where I stay. I have been coming to powerhouse during my week visits for several years now and have always had a good experience. The week guest pass is by far the easiest and most affordable of any of the gyms in the area. read more

So Im crying my eyes out right now because of this gym. This (berea) gym was supposed to cancel my membership 4 months ago... recently i relized they where still takeing money out my bank around 40$ a month. The desk person gave me the managers email to talk to. And i explained in detail that i need a refund and she totally ignored it... i call the desk girl again and she very rudley tell me Im not getting my money back. So here I am... i apparently handed them 150$ plus they made me pay a 15$ cancelation fee on top of all of it... Do not go here!!! If you do check your money to make sure they arnt doing anything sketchy because you wont get your money back!!!! read more

I joined this gym because it is SUPER convenient for me and because of their hours. It is directly on my way to and from work. Hours are M-TR 5 am - 10pm, Friday 5am - 8pm, Saturday 8am-6pm and Sunday 8am - 4pm. While I wish they opened at 7am on Saturday and Sunday, it isn't a bad schedule. Pros: 1. Decent space. Equipment isn't too crammed on top of each other. 2. Hours 3. Key-fob swipe in. 4. Towel service 5. The class space, when not in use, can be used by members. Cons: 1. Layout - it could be better. It isn't completely functional. 2. The floors in the gym are horrible. The mats are bunched up, gaps, puckers. It is a HUGE safety hazard, and well, let's be frank..a cleanliness issue. 3. Equipment - some of this stuff is so old it looks like it came out of some guy's basement gym. The pad on benches or machines are ripped / cracked. The cardio equipment is on the low-budget end of cardio equipment. (Honestly, I'm always shocked at the qty. of people on the cardio equipment at 5am in the morning...especially considering how low-end it is.) 3. CLEANLINESS!!! This is Powerhouse's biggest failure. I could overlook some of the other issues if this was a cleaner space. a. The showers. If there are hairs in the shower and they're in the same spot on the shower wall for weeks at a time, we have a problem. b. Ripped, torn, cracked equipment pads is just a breeding ground for bacteria and gross stuff. I don't even want to contemplate the petri dish of these torn pads. c. Paper towels dispensers (few and far throughout the place) are often empty at 5:30 am. If all your paper towel dispensers are empty first thing in the morning how can I wipe down my sweaty equipment and how were the people before me wiping it down? (Read: they most likely WEREN'T). d. The class space has cleanliness issues too. Mud, dust-bunnies, etc on the floor. Not to mention the critter that was hanging out on the ceiling the one morning I was in there. e. The locker-rooms. They just aren't clean. The middle sink in the women's room doesn't work (no water). Showers aren't clean. Water-pressure for showers sucks. The handicap shower with the hand-held shower head (which is broken so you have to flop it over the on/off handle) has been broken since I joined. (I can't imagine that purchasing a new shower head would break this gym.) I could go on.... I joined for a year. I wasn't happy after 3 visits and I went in and spoke with the owner. I was kind and he graciously accepted my criticisms. From my conversation with him, I get that he's trying to make it a better gym and that he's a small-business owner and he doesn't have a huge budget for improvements. He allowed me out of my contract, and I don't think he does this for every one. I appreciated the gesture. He even asked if I'd be a "secret shopper" for him and provide him feedback for the remainder of the contract that I'd paid for and was a "member" of the gym. I did see a SMALL effort in the following days after my complaints. I loved the smell of bleach in the bathroom...alas, still not clean and I've not smelled bleach since. There aren't a ton of gym options in Olmsted Falls or Berea. Unfortunately, I just don't think this is worth the $20 a month. If it was clean, I'd consider it. Honestly, I'm disappointed. This place could be so much better. I'd even pay $30 a month if it would help keep the place in better condition. Alas. I've given them a chance & don't think I'll be back. read more

Powerhouse Gym - Gyms Near Me - Berea, Ohio

So I found out about this gym from Groupon, where I purchased a three month package for $35. Pretty cool right?! I went there to check out the place before I decided on the groupon, and I was pretty happy. They have about 4 of 5 different rooms, but I mainly stay where the cardio equipment is. I think they have a really good amount of machines, which work well. It is always clean, and the staff is pretty nice, and they definitely look like they should be working there. (motivation for me I guess) I love the locker room space too, nice showers, even a sauna too. Scales are placed all around also. I feel like everyone is pretty cool that goes there, laid back, not there to outdo anyone. For the most part, they only get a rush after work but other than that I never have to wait for any machine, especially a treadmill. So that is pretty good. I would check into this Powerhouse, because I have heard horror stories about other gyms, and I feel really good about this one! They even have a day care area if you need that. OK one downside, the hours. I feel that the weekend hours are pretty restrictive, but being open until 10 on the weekdays is good for me. Overall, after two months, I am still a really happy customer and will recommend this gym to others without a doubt. read more

I went twice while I was in town. $10 each, which is solid for a place like this. They fill what seems to have been an office building that they have turned into a gym. They've got a decent amount of equipment for lifting, a room for classes and what not, and an extra room for the trainers to do the agility cross-fit stuff. Their treadmills weren't great - 2/3 I tried were skipping at high speeds to the point I almost fell down. Also, there was no way to listen to the TVs. Note to potential client's, I went to this location by recommendation. I stopped in and scheduled a time to meet with Joe Mazzone ( little Joe)to get an assessment and try to get back into the gym after years of being tied to family responsibilities. I explained this to Joe at our initial meeting. He explained the pricing which seemed very fair. I arrived for my appointment 15 minutes early. Joe addressed me in a curt manner and stated my appointment was an hour earlier. I apologized and felt bad for not being on time. He stated we would have to reschedule as he turned his back and walked away. I went to my vehicle and felt pushed out so I text him. I stated that I felt it was unprofessional for the way I was dismissed. I still felt wronged so I returned inside to address this. To my surprise Joe was standing around with the other employees showing my text to them and giggling like junior high schoolers. I only knew this after he pointed out the time he put on the previous text, to my surprise his phone was already opened to our conversation. I pointed this out to him and he stated " how vane are you sir". I then asked for the owner's name and number. Not to my surprise he stated "he was" in a sarcastic manner after numerous times of refusing to give me the information. I can only hope he is not the owner. He then stated that his clientel was committed to their workouts and goals and wished me good luck with my goals. I again told him I was a referral, he hoped them good luck with their goals as well. Not knowing whom he was speaking of, he looked at the gentleman sitting at the counter who stated he knew him and confirmed that he was worthy of praise for his success at weightlifting. This only confirmed his attempt of making me feel less than worthy. I was told Joe was a nice person. I even offered to compensate him for his time since it was my scheduling error. I am 52 years of age, a professional in the community, and I have never felt so pre-judged, disrespected and made to feel as though I didn't belong there. I am glad to know this up front as I would not want to be associated with this type of behavior or a business that promotes belitteling someone for trying to better themselves. This may not be the best way to build a clientel, surely not the type of environment I would recommend. read more

I have been working out at this gym for a little over two years and have lost over 80 lbs am in the best cardio and physical shape of my life.. Atmosphere is why I keep coming back- Great people!!
