In this recession, apparently KFC and Poundland are thriving. I love KFC so I wondered if I would love Poundland.
Firstly, yes, it's true, the items do cost a pound and there is an amazing variety of goods carried in the shop from food to sports gear. However, I failed to spot any of the branded golf clubs that the chief executive had mentioned on his radio interview on Five live.
I used the opportunity to buy some staples like washing up liquid and scouring pads but didn't really find anything else I wanted though it's hard to go wrong with spending a pound. However, I would feel uncomfortable with contributing to the throwaway society of today - buy a £1 umbrella with the attitude that so what if it's pretty poor standard and breaks easily as it was so cheap.
