Searching for proposals for solar & backup storage for the casa - no financing needed. Got 4 bids including one from solar pro. The sales team called me within a couple of hours of posting on a solar web site. Made an appt for a phone consultation, sent the requested info and got a phone call on time. So far so good. It was in line with one I gotten earlier. Since I'm trying to compare apples to apples when something came up I'd get ahold of the Solar Pro guy to clarify this new bit of info. Going great so far, I'm leaning towards going here. Then comes Thursday. Send a question in the early afternoon - no response. Email sent 6hrs later asking about my text & question. Next morning he responds by email & text. Within minutes of getting his response I ask a follow up question. I'm still waiting for an answer. Lack of response before they get my $$$ is a red flag about service after I've paid. Sad, but solar pro went from first to worst. Since this is one department of a design company I won't bother to call for a bid on a soon to follow remodel job. read more

I have a new house with a Square D breaker box. Solar Pro's system that was just in stalled does not work with the up to code AFCI breakers in my house. My fridgerator and washing machine trip the AFCI daily or more when the solar system is on, but don't ever trip when the solar system is off. Solar Pro neither warned me of the risk of problems after their site visit, nor took any responsibility for the system not working with my house. They even suggested multiple times that I downgrade my breakers so the system would work, making my system not up to code. The sale representative, Genaro, was wonderful and fought for us all the way to the CEO, but he refused to do anything. It was a well priced system, but I can't recommend this company at all. They don't seem to care if the system actually works with your house after install. read more

I wrote the first check to SolarPros on July 15, 2024. Here we are 10 months later and the system just went operational. My advice: go somewhere else for your solar project. It's been a miserable experience - no communication, delays that I suspect are because SolarPros didn't know how to do project elements, and probably some out-and-out lies. Regardless of what excuses get tossed against the walls, 10 months is inexcusable. The ONLY reason they get 1 star is for the contract crew (not SolarPro) did an excellent job doing the actual installation (after 7 months, which is again inexcusable). Because I had nothing to do with the ridiculous delay, I asked for a reduction in the final price as I lost out on last year's tax credits, the lower electric bills, and the months of interest on the down payment (~$25k). That loss totaled well over $10k. I have appended the company response below. Frankly, it is what I expected. It is what we in northern Colorado used to get from the feedlots and used to fertilize the winter wheat and sugar beet fields. As examples, the excuse noted below of "rocky soils" ... the installers hit 1 rock when setting the 3' deep ground mount piers. The rock was fairly small and was easily removed in about 5 minutes. I opted to remove the generator from the project 1 week after getting the initial quote. Keep in mind, this is the response after almost 10 months of almost no communication, even after repeated prodding from me: ********************* "Congratulations ! you are up and running and receiving the benefits of going solar. Once we receive final payment we will activate your 25/25/25/warranty. I did see your request for a discount because of lost solar production due to the length of time from contract to electric company permission to operate( PTO). I apologize if we did not meet your expectations. Our team at Poulin Solar Pro does their best every day to provide the best solar services. Just to get your system built Poulin has to navigate on your behalf , engineers, building department, building and electrical inspectors who can interpret code independently of the code book and require you to change design, correct and reinspect. PNM plan review and their ever changing rules and PRC regulations are another challenge. A few years back we could get systems approved by PNM in a week or two now it can take up to 3 months. Bernalillo county can take up to 4-6 weeks to get a building permit issued and inspections up to 2-4 weeks. All of these agencies are shorthanded! We had to deal with plan revisions due to your rocky soil and not being able to use the original design of the ground mount. This is like starting the process over again. We also had a change order that removed the generator and your approval of it that took longer than expected. We were unable to submit the original application until we knew about the generator as it has to submitted at the same time. During this period my Production coordinator of 10 years announces his retirement and gives me short notice. What I am describing is what Solar Pro and all solar companies go through on every system we design and build. This is why in our terms and conditions we clearly state that we can not be held liable for delays beyond our control and we do not guarantee installation completion dates. I would be happy to meet with you in person and discuss your project. We recently had Poulin Solar Pro install our whole home solar system here in Albuquerque. They were amazing. Poulin Solar Pro handled every single detail of the process and provided the most outstanding service I have ever received on a project of this scale in my home. Their prices are fair and honest and having a local, family owned company who has been remodeling homes for more than 40 years was important to my peace of mind. The first appointment began at our home. Our roof was inspected and measured. We provided some details on our energy consumption from our utility bills. The very next day, we received our solar plans from Poulin, along with an initial quote. We then visited the gorgeous Poulin Design Center, home of Poulin Solar Pro - which made me ache for a new kitchen - no wait! a new soaking tub! Once we had negotiated our final price and package and had our final quote, we signed. I even negotiated a $250 gift card to Poulin Marketplace, their home decor store right next door, which I quickly spent on some fabulous items for our home while enjoying excellent artisanal coffee from their espresso bar. We opted for their financing, since it's with Nusenda FCU (our preferred bank). That process was also smooth and our interest rate is VERY low. With funding secured, and a signed contract, we were put on the schedule for install. We were able to get started with the physical install about 45 days after signing. This may seem long, but it isn't. The work that occurs during that 45 days is enormous - there's permitting, scheduling, forms at the city, county and utility levels, etc.. This was the piece that kept me up nights when my husband first thought he could just "DIY" solar for us. Once install day came, the crew arrived with Steve Poulin himself there to greet us and get the crew going. We were introduced to the site manager, a lovely young man who never tired of my excitement and litany of questions. The fact that Poulin uses no subcontractors and employs and screens it's own professional, licensed installers was incredibly important to my peace of mind - working from home alone with a crew of strangers, you want to know they've been properly vetted. The crew was onsite for 2 days. Each evening, they left their area as clean as, if not cleaner, than they found it. After install, there was another wait of about 3 weeks in total while all of the many inspections were scheduled and completed (Poulin handled all of that - we just had to be around to let PNM and the city inspectors in). The most glorious moment was when my husband woke up that first morning we were connected to the grid and watched the dials spin backwards on our meter, and the second was when he plugged our Ford Lightning in to charge at our very own EV charging station (Poulin does those too). We were also able to take advantage of PNM's EV charging program. We charge our truck between the hours of 11PM and 6AM and receive power at a reduced rate of 3 cents per KW. Even after we were up and running, the service from Poulin did not end. A few weeks after project completion, we received a VERY helpful letter and email from Poulin outlining all of the important info and steps we would need to take to receive our tax breaks. They could have just told us to go to the IRS/state website or a tax preparer, but they didn't do that. They actually took the time to research and compile an easy to follow guide for us. Finally, and this was SUPER important to me, the solar industry is new and many start up companies have started to fail or have already closed due to market demand vs. competition. There are also some scary predators out there. One of those tried to sell us on the same package we got from Poulin, but for twice the price. As a marketing person myself, I saw this coming and insisted we find a company that we could be reasonably sure would still be around in a few years if we needed support. Poulin is a real company with multiple enterprises. They have grown slowly and thoughtfully over the years and have a staying power none of the others, local or national, can bank on. So, if you live within 80 miles of Albuquerque, I would skip all the worrying and wondering and just call Poulin. You will love solar! read more

We had a 3.5 kW photovoltaic system installed by Poulin in July 2019. The installation went very smoothly and we have had no problems with it, aside from the manufacturer of the inverter changing the internet connection from 3G to 5G and wanting $500 to upgrade the inverter. The problems began when I started looking into a system upgrade. I discovered that Poulin had installed a 3000 W inverter when the permit plans showed a 3800 W inverter. A check of the contract showed that we had paid for a 3800 W inverter. In addition, we had purchased a warranty extension on the inverter and received a certificate from the manufacturer. However, the serial number on the certificate does not match the number on the inverter, presumably voiding the warranty. It looked like a classic bait-and-switch. I went to the Poulin store, informed them of the situation and requested some sort of explanation from them. I received a call from Steve Poulin a few days later. He very cavalierly stated that we didn't really need a 3800 W inverter for our system. I pointed out that that was what we had paid for and what the plans submitted to the local government called for. After several go-rounds he asked what I needed to settle this, and I said that at the least they should reimburse me for the difference in the cost of the inverters. Later that day I received a call from Kara and was told I would be receiving a check in about two weeks. Three weeks later with no check and no further communication, I filed a complaint with the BBB. Within two days I received a voicemail and an email from the electrician who installed our system. He acknowledged the error and offered to replace the inverter with a 3800 W model. I informed him that with our planned system upgrade I would need a 6000 W inverter, so getting a 3800 W inverter at this point was of no use. I suggested that Poulin pay me for the 3800 W inverter I didn't get and they could have the old 3000 W inverter back. That was a week ago and I have not heard back from them. I am not impressed, and would caution anyone considering using Poulin Solar Pro to be very attentive to the details of the installation. read more

I needed a panel upgrade and a large 10kW system and they matched the best offer from the competitor and scheduled the install sooner. They already had a financing agreement with my bank so the financing was liquid smooth. I've had it running for six months and the performance estimates for the system have been within +/-1%. So many things went wrong. The first and biggest issue was that Poulin had changed the placement of where the solar panels were going to be and didn't inform us nor ask us if we were ok with that. The other part of that problem is that we have a pitched metal roof and we replaced the section of roof where the solar panels were originally going to go. So, installation day came and Poulin is installing them on a different area of the roof. My husband and I discussed with Poulin this issue and came to the decision that we would keep the solar panels on the new area (since they already drilled holes in the roof) and when we replace the roof Poulin would pay for the solar panels to be removed and reinstall them. Poulin said they would give us a letter stating this. All I got was an email stating this with no signatures nor on company letterhead. I called Poulin to let them know this is unacceptable and requested that they actually type a letter on company letterhead and physically sign it. I've called countless time for this letter and have never received it. One of the other issues is that our electrical box needed to be upgraded to support the solar panels. This was supposed to happen on the same day as the solar panel installation and that didn't happen. But the bigger problem was that they messed up so many things with our electrical box. We're having our house remodeled and our contractor took a look at it and said things are on a 30 when they should be split into two 15s. One of our bedrooms didn't have a breaker to shut the power off to it and we had to shut off the entire power system to shut off the power to that room. Poulin also didn't patch up the wall when they were done and electrical wires were exposed and everything was mislabeled in the electrical box. I called Poulin since we're still under warranty to fix these electrical issues and they never called back. Thank goodness our contractor was able to fix all these issues. And wait there's even more. I feel like the project manager is misogynistic. I had filled out all the paperwork and every communication was going through me. But he found my husband's email and started emailing my husband about the project even though I had asked him multiple times to only email me. I had also tried to get help for the solar tax rebate from the solar administrative assistant. I was trying to find out where I could find my green tag permit number so I emailed the solar administrative assistant. I never got a reply. I had to call several times and finally got someone else on the phone to help me. Please find someone else besides Poulin for your solar project. read more
