I had an estimate from a young lady who seemed pleasant at 1st for a solar estimate. She texted me about a week later and because I challenged her prices, not open to negotiation, she blocked my messages. That's pathetic and immature. I went with SunState Solar instead! read more

We've had solar panels for a few years fro Affordable Solar, and recently needed help with the enphase tracking system- a service employee came out to our home in Grants to troubleshoot- Brandon was well I'd and polite. He found that we needed a new part, ordered it, and said he'd come back in a week to install it. True to his word, Brandon came this morning, installed the part, and made sure we were up and online. None of these service calls cost us anything. Brandon: professional and friendly - a great spokesperson for a great company! read more

We had an amazing experience with Affordable solar. Anna Styles was very professional and held our hand all the way through the process. I highly recommend her for any solar needs you may have. Sean read more

Best and most honorable solar company in NM! Had a great experience going solar with them from start to finish.

We just installed a home solar system, and are very glad we chose Affordable Solar. Everything was done professionally. Affordable took care of the permit process quickly, and even drafted/prepared the tax package for the state rebate (which is a pain). Only took 4 months from sale to going live! read more

I highly recommend Affordable Solar. My salesman was Troy McGee and Troy is/was always available for the many questions that I had. The entire organization has been great to work with. I just got my first $8 PNM bill, which is the charge to stay connected to PNM read more

Affordable was with me every step of the way from my initial questions about solar panels to helping me with filling out the form that I needed to file state taxes. I had my roof replaced right before the solar panels went on so that had to be coordinated. Affordable coordinated with the roofer. My electric panel had to be upgraded and Affordable set all of that up. The company they contracted with for the electric panel upgrade was so professional. I had questions along the way and Affordable was always there to answer them. read more

Extremely happy with our solar installation and we love the myenlighten/envoy monitoring system that comes with it. Michelle and Kelsey were great. We ran into a small snag because of PNM which delayed the installation by about a month but affordable solar was diligent in getting the project back on track and accommodating us in scheduling the many inspections that needed to take place. We were under a time constraint in getting the system up and running by the end of December for tax purposes but they did it. Its great to see our electric bills so low now. read more

I bought a whole off-grid house system from these guys (except for batteries), spending around $10,000. The salesman was always pleasant enough, but as soon as the check was cashed things started to go downhill. Slowly at first... there was some small (yet key) thing missing from my order, so apologies and a week later, it got in. I self-installed, so I had some questions, especially as it turns out these guys seem to just be bundlers and re-sellers - there were instruction manuals that came with each piece, but no overall 'do this first' or, 'here's how these go together'. So I started emailing, and calling, with questions. no response. I went on their site 'contact us' form and basically wrote a 'what the hell man' note, and again, apologies and a quick (turns out ONLY) call from a tech support guy, who leaves a message, never to pick up the phone again. So I start emailing the guy. Sure, I'm not a professional, so maybe some questions were a little simple, but let me just put it this way: I got the stuff in July and still haven't gotten a satisfactory answer out of the guy now in November. Yes, emails were responded to, with days in between, sometimes more than a week... yet almost always with just a wrong-enough answer that generated more questions. 12 days ago I emailed the tech guy on a Monday morning, copied the sales guy, and said "I need to talk to you about this on the phone. Please call me this week"... and, nothing. I finally called the manufacturer directly, and from dialling to hanging up in SIXTEEN minutes, with some testing, everything was understood and taken care of. 16 minutes instead of 150 days. To sum up, don't use these guys, as all they do is resell you someone else's stuff without the support or professionalism you'd expect. read more

The last two month's PNM bill has been ZERO BALANCE DUE (Feb. & March) with a credit of $11.00+ in Feb. and a check for $49.43 in March. We've been averaging 60+ KWH a day when we have good sun. Our system has 36 panels w/ individual inverters rated at 250 WH, yet when I check the monitoring system, each panel is putting out over 1 KWN + during peak sun hours (11:30 am to 2:30 pm). The system, put in by Affordable Solar, is great so far and trouble free. Our system is a ground mount and went online 11/21/14. FLASH: just filed our income tax and am getting back $9K plus from Federal and State. Chris & Lynette Ewer read more

We are very satisfied with our service and experience with Affordable Solar. Justin and his team were always prompt, professional, and responsive to us. The coordination with instillation, PNM, and city permits was flawless. When we needed an upgrade to the system, the process was seamless yet again! Highly recommend!! read more

Affordable Solar installed a 6000 watt system on our flat roof. The sales person let us know to expect a 4 to 6 week permitting process. Once the permitting was done, the installation took a day & a half. During the installation, I talked with the electricians who were very friendly & helpful in answering my last minute questions. When the city & PNM inspectors came by I asked them what their experience was with Affordable Solar and they were uniformly complementary. I would definitely recommend them. read more

Called twice in 24 hours and no response despite a message that says they will call back in 2 business hours = not confidence inspiring!

Okay Affordable Solar; you're on notice!!! You call me daily for weeks and when I finally answer the call and speak to your salesperson to find out the details, and he doesn't like all my questions. RED FLAG #1 He doesn't like that I want to know how much it is. He doesn't like that I ask what makes them a better choice than the local companies HERE. He doesn't like that I am exercising due diligence in my questioning him and his company. He wanted to set up an appointment and had many openings for tomorrow. I asked him more questions about the process and company and he said, "oh, you know what? All those appointments filled up. I don't want to do business with you. You're nasty." I responded, "well, then stop calling my house every day for the past month." His response? "Stop answering my calls." WTF????? Guess who got a blast of my whistle in his ear after THAT, and a "don't call me again."???? Yep, I did it. If you get a call from 970-958-9851, be warned!!!! Oh, and HE LIED!!!! You will NEVER OWN THE SYSTEM!!!! From their website: "What is a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)? We put a solar system on your roof and sell you cheaper, clean electricity in exchange for the right to use your roof space. Since we own the system, we get the benefit of all the tax credits. As it's our system, we also are responsible for all repairs, replacements, monitoring and insurance for the life of contract." http://www.thinkaffordablesolar.com/power-purchase-agreement/how-it-works/ read more

We completed our solar installation in May. We had several interruptions in the process due to trying to schedule other work (re-roofing) and the folks at Affordable Solar were very patient in working with us through those delays. The installation was amazingly quick. The process of working with PNM, the city, and all the other entities for getting the system approved is byzantine, but the good news is the system was up and running and producing power while most of that was going on. Good customer communication throughout...we often got prompt email replies even on weekends. Over 2.2 MwH generated to date, and we just got our first $0.00 bill. Highly recommended! read more

I think that these guys are only interested in big sales, and not the little guy like me. The sales people must work on commission they don't seem to know anything about off grid read more

Rob Davis and the team at Affordable stood out from the other two companies we looked at for our solar system. The installation team was nothing short of amazing. They installed and tested our system in less than a day. While there were bumps in the road with approvals and inspections the end result is fantastic. My power bill last month which was extremely hot was $89 with on 21 days of solar power being generated. My first full month bill will be a great indication of what we can expect. Thank you Affordable. read more

I called. This company veer 2 weeks ago because I was thinking about getting some panels installed and I left a message and have never heard back. It makes me Leary an out using a company that has such poor communication skills. I would doubt their ability to perform a job in a given amount of time, plus call back if there were issues etc. They may be affordable but seems unreliable. read more

I began my adventure to add a solar PV system to my home by working with [name withheld], a popular and well-established solar company in the area. I was asked to submit some preliminary information and about a week later received a single quote of $30K for 16 panels. I began asking questions concerning installation and tax benefits but never received any answers. A friend told me about Affordable Solar and I decided to call them while I was patiently waiting for answers from the other company. The sales person was very professional and made an appointment to visit me the next day. Upon her arrival, she took measurements, provided me with brochures, and honestly answered all of my questions. I needed to replace the roof before I could install the solar panels (a common situation) and I asked if she knew any reputable contractors. She did, and had an estimator call and schedule a meeting the very next day. In just two short days, I had all the information I needed to get started with my project. It was interesting to me that a single telephone call could dramatically change my solar buying experience. From a company that seemed to horde its information and prevent me from making a well-informed and rational decision to a company that was so eager to share its knowledge and enthusiasm that I was beginning to feel like an solar expert (I wasn't, but it felt like it). Companies can create an advantage over its consumers with secrecy and information hiding. This advantage can then be leveraged against consumers in many different ways, including price. This was self-evident when I received four different quotes from Affordable Solar instead of the single, take it or leave it quote from the other company. The quotes varied in price due to the differences in types and number of PV panels used. I went with Afforadable's most expensive solution--$30K for 32 panels--twice the number of panels quoted by the other company. Affordable Solar had clearly beaten the other company on price, but what about the installation? I was planning to install the system myself and decided to talk it over with them. I was then educated in the fine art of solar installation with all of its caveats and pitfalls clearly pointed out. Shocked at the difficulty, I decided to let Affordable Solar perform the installation. It turned out to be the smart choice. I was then contacted by the project manager to schedule the installation. She clearly explained all of the intricate details of the project. She was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions. She was also so warm and friendly that I found myself calling her often throughout the entire project. When the installation day finally arrived, I was greeted by the field manager and his crew. Again, everyone was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. They eagerly answered all of my questions and even stopped working to explain to me exactly what they were doing. They never once insinuated that I might be disturbing them even though I must have distracted them a few times. The installation was completed in a day and a half. My new solar system has been running flawlessly for over two months and anyone who visits always comments on the meticulousness of the installation. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the overall success of this project. More importantly, I am very happy with the sales, management, installation, workmanship, and ethics of this company. The entire staff is honest, friendly, and professional and I recommended them to everyone who will listen. You owe it to yourself and to your wallet to use this company for all of your solar needs. read more

Our installer for a residential 3.2kW solar power system (18 panels and 8 batteries) in Houston chose Xantrex equipment and sourced components from Affordable Solar. I am very pleased with my residential solar installation by Affordable Solar, Inc. Since commissioning it 15 months ago, I have had a total of less than $50 in electric bills! I was shopping for solar energy for a few years and couldn't quiet get it together, but last year I was shopping at Affordable solar and they made it work for me the team is great their options to customize the system are the best and I got a great deal on it. I was working with Crystal Felice and she was the best to answer all of my questions and believe me I had a lot of them. This was so far the best investment I made, it works great and I don't pay PNM any more money ....... I love it and if I install a other system I'll be back to Affordable read more

I have nothing but good things to say about the product and the people at Affordable Solar.

The sales person, Dustin, did a great job before, during and after my system was installed. Everthing happened just as promised. The guys that installed my system were just great. WARNING - INSPECT YOUR SHIPMENT BEFORE SIGNING INVOICE!! In the Fall of 2013, I purchased 22 Canadian Solar Panels from Affordable Solar, and was satisfied with my purchase. BUT ... In July 2014 I purchased 2 additional panels to increase voltage. The transport company, CON-WAY, delivered my order and on visual inspection no damage could be noted, but after the driver left, I opened the boxes to find both panels shattered. I immediately contacted Nick at Affordable to report the damage. He requested I send pictures of the damaged panels via email, which I immediately did. Nick reorder new panels for replacement and said he'd recredit. After several weeks my credit card came and the broken panels, plus the new replacement panels were all on my bill. I contacted Nick at Affordable Solar and after many phone calls, they agreed to only reimburse me for half the panel charges on the broken solar panels. These panels could have only been broken by dropping from a considerable height, but they feel justified in charging me because I signed when Con-Way delivered on the invoice. I now get my panels from Sun Electronics in Miami, FL and very satisfied with there customer service. read more

I regret doing business with Affordable Solar (AS). The process became a nightmare soon after I signed the contract. Before installation, the City of Albuquerque and PNM have to inspect the electrical panel and they show up at their own leisure (usually when you're at work) and need access to your home. AS will suggest you leave your gates unlocked or leave your garage door opener with them (do so only if you enjoy having your home broken into). Then after the installation is done the city inspector needs access to your home again for a final inspection and again will show up at his own leisure. Don't expect any kind of coordination through AS because even through they schedule the inspections the inspectors may not show up or call before they come to your home. The "project manager" was worse than useless because she did not coordinate with the roofing company who install my new roof to have the penetrations resealed and the solar panel installers had to wait until the roofers arrived. Of course, all of the delays with the inspections and installation caused AS to miss the deadline for submitting the State of NM tax credit which (along with the federal tax credit) was the only reason I decided to have the system installed in the first place. If you haven't calculated the cost of the system versus the monthly savings then do that first because you may be surprised to learn how long it will take for the system to pay for itself (it won't seem worth it). The salesperson is another sad story. Like typical salespeople do, you will be lied to or told things that sound wonderful but are embellished in unbelievable ways. I was initially told that if the system was installed by the end of 2016 I would qualify for both the state and federal tax credits. Then I was told (in an effort to make a quicker decision) that the system had to be installed by the end of the 2016 summer or I would lose the state tax credit. What I wasn't told was that the city had to complete final inspection and documents submitted to the state before receiving the state tax credit (it's not automatic like the federal tax credit). By the time I received clarification of this the deadline was near, the city inspector did not show up for the appointment, and the state tax credit was denied. Huge lack of communication on the part of AS. When I confronted AS with my dissatisfaction I was promised a 100% refund of the amount of the state tax credit but with the stipulation that the remaining balance be paid in full first. When I asked for further clarification the sales manager was evasive in explaining. Ultimately, I got the explanation I needed but AS only reimbursed me 50% of the state tax credit (I did say they lied didn't I?). On to the installation of the monitoring system. The installer will not come to your home when it is convenient for you but when it is convenient for him. If you cannot be home at his convenience he will suggest you can install the monitoring system yourself. The monitoring system itself will NOT provide any useful information directly and you will have to log onto their website for the information. Don't be sold on the wonderful free lifetime monitoring (it's NOT that wonderful or useful). Anyway, as far as the performance of the system, I still paid PNM for electricity for the first 2-3 months after the systems was installed because it was NOT generating enough to offset the electricity use during the summer and I began paying PNM again in December. IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!! BUT...if you decide that maybe it is...find another company. One star is more than AS deserves. read more
