I received the invoice for the diagnostic and it was $161. no biggie to me then the employees came for the diagnostic. the employees were amazing and stayed at my place for about 1 hour 15 minutes fixing what needed to be fixed. after it was fixed they told me what was fixed and left. the next day I receive a text from someone at the company claiming the bill would be $600+ for the time and hours on site. they told me this was after they discounted the price. I told them what I was told about the 1 hour of service and told them I was never asked if I would like the repairs done for that price. I explained how they only spent 1 hour on site. they then told me they will discount it to $500. I told them I have ring footage of the time they arrived and left along with what I was told and never explained that the cost would be $600+. after this they never responded.

When a neighborhood says that there's no soliciting, why would you go ahead and solicit anyways? Avoid at all costs!! I would not trust these people with anything.

They have now no call/no showed 3 appointments to finish the work and energize the system. Despite my repeated attempts to keep the project moving and get the work completed, ION Solar has stopped responding to me. The box that is supposed to contain our solar meter has been covered with a sheet of cardboard for nearly a month now because they have not come to complete the work or have it inspected. We are proceeding with a project abandonment complaint through NMRLD's Construction Industries Division, as well as with our financing company, and the guarantor of their surety bond in New Mexico.

We struggle to get responses from the staff through email and phone calls where their phone tree always goes to voicemail that is not returned. Our project was signed in August, finally installed (and fully paid) in early December, and finally activated January 31st. Within a month, parts quit working, taking a third of the system down. It took 4 weeks of constant calls to finally get their service team out and get the issue resolved (they even tried to cancel last minute). We are still waiting for them to submit the tax documents to the state which were promised upon purchase back in December. The lack of service and communication have made us recommend to have others look elsewhere if you are thinking of going Solar.

Affordable Solar has been wonderful to work with, I couldn't have picked a better solar company to lead our installation. I appreciated the thoughtful honesty from the sales team (Solar Consultants), and their ability to answer any & all questions at every stage of the process. My wife and I met with our Solar Consultant, Taylor, at the showroom to discuss our options. We reviewed our PNM bill and discussed potential future plans for energy usage. Once we talked about our plans, we immediately received a personalized solar proposal. We were able to see similar install types from around ABQ, and were given all information and timelines prior to signing our proposal. On the day of installation, our install crew was on time, friendly, and quickly showed their skill. I was invited onto the roof, and they discussed every detail of the install process. Our electrician asked for my input before installing our combiner box, and asked me to make sure I approved of the final aesthetics. Overall, I can't thank them enough for a perfect experience - I will spread the word about Affordable Solar to all of my friends considering solar! read more

THANK YOU Affordable Solar and especially Crystal Felice. Best service ever. We had gotten quotes from other local solar companies and were not pleased with the level of service we were receiving. In comes in Crystal, who helped us get sorted out with how many panels and voltage etc.. all at an affordable price. We have had a system for less than a year and I can tell you our PNM bill has gone from $200 to $7.90 (and that is only because PNM charges a flat fee and tax on those 7 bucks). Never in our wildest dreams did we ever imagine we would not have a electric bill. So pleased with everything. We had our PV system installed by Affordable Solar a couple of years ago at our home residence. In the time since, we have never had ASI come out to our residence to effect repairs to the system. It has performed beyond expectations. With us having a minimal electric cost to PNM. ASI was entirely professional and proactive during the entire installation process, handling all the permitting and applications necessary to install our system. Our personal contacts: Crystal (Sales), Annie (Project Mgr.), and Travis (Service Mgr.) provided outstanding, unrivaled customer service. I cannot say enough about these 3 employees from their company! We would highly recommend this company for anyone's renewable energy needs. read more

With newbies sprouting up all over the place in solar, it's important to sift through the startups. This company has been around since the late 90's, which makes them a dinosaur in their industry. After seeing all of their awards as well, it made the investment decision easier than it already was considering the savings I was looking to benefit from. With all of the recent advancements in technology, going solar is a no-brainer now. I recommend contacting them to get an estimate if you haven't already. Had a 16 panel solar array installed a little over 1 yr. ago. Install went well took 2 weeks for them to come out. (OK because we live 160 miles for Albuquerque) Had a bad inverter so only 15 panels would produce. They came back about 3 weeks later and repaired. Now 1 year later system has been running fine. Producing the amount of power it should be. Would recommend Affordable solar. They took care of all the inspections and permits. read more

Just had a 5.8 kW PV system installed. 10 weeks from contract start to PNM turn on. I was interested in the technical details and Affordable had the detailed engineering models and engineers to answer them and get me the best system. They also did all the paperwork, including the permits, PNM contract and tax credit app. Totally turnkey. Very happy with the product and the overall experience. read more

We had a great experience with Affordable Solar. Our salesperson, Michelle, came to our house to talk to us about what kind of system to buy, and helped us to feel comfortable with the whole process. The installation also went very smoothly,and afterward Michelle helped us apply for our tax credits. Now we are getting paid by PNM rather than the other way around. read more

It was in line with one I gotten earlier. Since I'm trying to compare apples to apples when something came up I'd get ahold of the Solar Pro guy to clarify this new bit of info. Going great so far, I'm leaning towards going here. Then comes Thursday. Send a question in the early afternoon - no response. Email sent 6hrs later asking about my text & question. Next morning he responds by email & text. Within minutes of getting his response I ask a follow up question. I'm still waiting for an answer. Lack of response before they get my $$$ is a red flag about service after I've paid. Sad, but solar pro went from first to worst. Since this is one department of a design company I won't bother to call for a bid on a soon to follow remodel job.

Their reviews made them sound amazing on quality of work. But these guys are outrageous on their pricing. Their sales rep tried to price gouge me on a generator sale and installation. They were 1 of 5 quotes from ABQ area. They are listed as an authorized dealer and installer for Generac. Their generator sale cost was $2k more than Generac's disclosed pricing and the next highest bid and 2.5x overall cost of the next highest quote. I feel sorry for customers that don't know any better and get essentially robbed by their salesmen.

TOTAL SCAM. We've been strung along by Mark Kelly since the summer of 2022. We finally signed loan…read morepaperwork and began making payments in Feb 2023, yet he still has not prioritized completing our project, despite being paid in full at that time. We've been making solar loan payments and also paying our PNM bills for our two houses for 9 months now. Mark keeps saying he's going to pay us back for this, but we haven't seen a dime of reimbursement, even after sending him all documentation requested.. multiple times. We've had an open trench in our entryway since February as well. Despite there being no movement or hurry on his end for months, Mark randomly sprang up and pressured us to quickly dig the trench for the underground work with very little lead time. We let him know we were prepping to host a large event that weekend and requested we wait a few more days until after the event before beginning the work, but he assured us the trench would be filled in before that. It was not. In fact, this gaping hazard still sits there, wide open, at the end of Oct 2023. We had to put in a makeshift bridge over it to enter our home. We've had kids, adults and pets fall into it. Mark nor his team never even offered to help make our entryway safe for the event or any points beyond. When we reached out to him about it again months later, he wasn't even aware it was still open. Mark's communication skills are sorely lacking. We don't hear from him at all unless we initiate contact, and even then our texts go ignored for days, and sometimes weeks. He gives us more excuses with every passing inquiry, always pointing his finger at the BernCo inspectors and never taking any responsibility for his unprofessional (and ultimately, downright sh!tty) project management. I spoke directly with the inspector last week and found out that our project just sits there with no motion from Mark's end for months at a time. There's a trail of date stamped paperwork and communication detailing and confirming this timeline. I could continue to share a whole host of other pressing complaints, but I will close with one last example of Photon Rainbow's bad business ethics. After we secured the solar loan, based on what we were led to believe were secured BernCo permits and estimates for the work associated with those permits, Mark came back to us (after he'd been paid in full and we were making both the solar loan and PNM payments, with no working solar service) saying we were going to have to pay an additional $6,000-8,000 out of pocket for corrections, in order to secure the permits. Their submitted plans did not actually pass inspection, and due to his laissez faire communication and follow up, he didn't catch it until after the loan was wrapped up and rolling. He did offer to split the cost with us, acting like this was some sort of favor, despite the contract spelling out that securing the contract was his responsibility. I hope he only has to learn this business lesson once, for the sake of others who may follow us. Y'ALL. He even had the nerve to pressure us for a five star review, and the work still hasn't been completed. You can't make this garbage up! The bottom line of our experience is that Mark doesn't deliver on his promises, and he also doesn't appear to be on top of local regs and requirements. Per the BernCo inspector, he could have requested a trench inspection to close it up months ago. Mark is untrustworthy and is tarnishing the reputation Photon Rainbow previously built. Who knows how many of these reviews were written before the work was even competed? At this point we are doubtful our project will be finished. If/when it is, we are quickly losing faith that the system will actually work, or that we will have any support should it need repair in the future. If Mark's project management is any reflection on the quality and fidelity of the solar installation, we're f@cked. We just heard of others with similar horror tales about Mark. He needs to prioritize completing current projects over hustling new ones. YMMV, but buyer beware.

They were happy to take our money but couldn't seem to communicate much with us after that. That company went out of business last Spring. That said, we chose Photon Rainbow, a new company, to get it right this time solely on the strength of a personal reference from another happy customer. From the outset, our salesperson/project manager Kelly S listened to our past experience, and was clear, upfront, and very interested in communicating well. She answered all our texts promptly, even after the project was finished. This was also because this business has a knowledgable back office that took care of permitting, engineering, an electrical sub (we needed a new electrical panel), installation, and problem-solving our app that monitors everything. I suspect we were somewhat challenging customers because my exacting, design-engineer husband wanted a revision of the initial plan and expected to be on the roof to take photos documenting the installation. They accommodated him with enthusiasm and grace probably because he had good rationale for the changes and they wanted to be certain we were pleased with both the process and the outcome. We waited this long to write a review because we wanted to make sure we were as happy 9 months later as we were when PNM flipped the solar switch.
