I stayed here for 6 nights, and I must say ... I was skeptical considering the hotel's location…read more It's on the south end of Mexico City, about 12 miles from the city center where all the action is. So if you're coming as a tourist, this is probably not the place to stay. But if you don't mind paying for taxis, the hotel offers a luxury shuttle service for 300 pesos wherever you want to go in the DF, each way. In other words, if they drop you off around the city center 12 miles away and you want to be picked up and brought back to the hotel later, they'll come all the way to get you for 300 pesos. Pretty reasonable. I've gotten into Sitio cabs (the ones that don't kidnap you) for 600 pesos to go 3 miles depending on the time of day.
Overall, my stay was positive. The rooms are huge, and clean. The breakfast buffet is outstanding, but not included. The weight equipment in the gym is a little dated, but the cardio equipment is fairly new, and the gym space itself is quite large. The wi-fi is free, and the pool area is relaxing, quiet, and well-maintained.
So why only 3 stars?
Besides the location, the only thing preventing me from giving 4 stars is the room service. Their menu is very friendly toward guests who can't handle the Mexican heat. Club sandwiches, Italian dishes, etc. But I can handle the heat and so I must have ordered the Aztec soup at least 5 times. It is out of this world good! So good, I attempted to get the recipe from the chef before I left, but failed. Que pena!
The soup is quite filling, and I could make a meal out of that alone, but after 5 times I think I was ready for a change. On a separate night, I ordered the pasta carbonara. It came without bread so the waiter said he'd go get some and be back shortly. 15 minutes passed and still no bread. In the meantime, I immediately found my pasta to be cold and the bacon burnt. So I called to complain. They wanted to come get my cold dish and heat it up. Nice try. The bacon was burnt so I told them they'd have to re-do it anyway. 15 minutes later they brought me a new dish, which was hot this time, plus bread, plus parmesan cheese, both of which were missing from the first delivery. And this time around, I got attitude from the waiter, and no apology.
