Enjoyed a birthday dinner for 2 at Caribou. The table was on the smaller side as the restaurant…read moreitself is smaller and tends to be pretty packed. The blackened pork chop was cooked to perfection - moist and juicy. I really enjoyed the apple sauce and vegetables, which paired really nicely with the pork. The Malfadine pasta was also nice. It was my first time trying rabbit - if I didn't know better, I would have believed it was chicken. It wasn't gamey in the slightest. The truffle flavour was more subtle than I expected. Though it's hard to critique the cook on either dish, I wouldn't say it was outstandingly delicious or unique. I am not necessarily eager to come back to try other things on the menu. To our surprise, the restaurant also gave us 2 desserts on the house! The cheesecake and tart were both very good and not overly sweet. Though I wish I had ordered their signature raspberry dessert instead of the lemon tart as it seems more unique. Overall, very good food and service. Would recommend for a special occasion.

Once we stepped in, we were warmly greeted with a lively dining room, and were quite surprised with the diversity and uniqueness of the menu. We started with Canadian old-fashions, and crab cakes. For dinner had their bus 16 oz steak special which was very nicely done, and the rabbi pasta. We Wish we had more room to try the pizzas because they looked great. We Finished it off with the peanut butter cheesecake. The waitress was charming and very helpful with making our decisions, even though she was supporting a very busy room. A real gem for thunder Bay, great place and great value. It's well worth the five minute drive away from the touristy downtown choices.

If you ever find yourself in Thunder Bay -- Tomlin is absolutely a MUST. Arguably the most upscale…read morerestaurant in town, it doesn't have a pretentiousness that you encounter at some places. Rather, the friendly service, innovative cookery, and high quality, locally sourced ingredients speak for themselves. I was in town to celebrate my birthday and this place was so special. Also if you want something a little more casual, they have a pizza place a few blocks away tucked inside a brewery, which is also fantastic!

I finally got to try the tasting menu with a group of 6! We opted for the cheaper option ($65 pp)…read more We arrived on a Friday night at 8pm and dinner went until nearly 11pm! I think they originally intended to give us oysters or tartare but because it was so late into the evening, they made something else. You can tell the chefs/cooks really do make most things from scratch because the wait/gap between courses was quite long (~30-40 min). We got to try a total of 11-12 dishes: 4 appetizers, 2-3 mains (depending if you count the sausage and chicken dish as separate or one), 2 sides, and 3 desserts. I have no idea if/how the dish count fluctuates depending on group size. We were told that the tasting menu differs every night and even between parties/tables on the same night -- they change it up depending on group preferences, dietary restrictions, and ingredient inventory. Overall, I really enjoyed our meal. The portions were generous and filling, and the variety was nice. I would say the appetizers (especially the veggies & sauces) were more impressive than the mains. I was hoping for more interesting proteins in the main course, but no complaints on the cook or seasoning. They might save the nicer proteins for the more expensive tasting menu ($85 pp). The desserts were really creative and delicious. Miso in a dessert is definitely innovative! I wish I could tell you the names of every dish, but I could barely hear the server / remember what everything was. From what I know, everything except for the desserts aren't on the regular menu anyway. Overall, I had a wonderful time and would recommend trying the tasting menu for an interesting and filling culinary experience! It certainly is good value, as you wouldn't be able to find a tasting menu of this quality/price in Toronto! Note: Tomlin only accepts reservations for groups of 6 or more.

Came here with my buddy and were quite let down to say the least. Right off the bat, we ordered the escargot. It had a really grainy texture to it, to the point I took out a piece of something I thought might have been shell fragments. The wonderful waitress went to check about it and said the kitchen staff said it could be a muscle, at which point I dropped the fragment on the plate and it made a very clear *clink noise. She checked again and said they weren't sure what it was and comped me a salad which was nice. I requested balsamic on the salad however I could not find a hint of balsamic in the salad. Regardless on to the main course. I had the top sirloin, my friend had the prime rib. The good first. The presentation was really nice, I loved the cooking the steak on the stone concept, the beets and garlic mash were also good, the quality of the steak was very good, my friends prime rib was also good. But now the bad. The steak was OVERSEASONED. To the point where I had to cut the top and bottom of the steak. I had the saltiest taste in my mouth the whole time eating it, to the point it became a chore. While I type this now, 30 minutes after the meal, I still have this salty taste lingering on my tongue. I also ordered their signature lot 88 BBQ steak sauce which was lacklustre and extremely sweet. While I did enjoy the hot stone experience, I won't be returning.

The decor is not very interesting. It's a sports bar. If you want a more varied food choice you have to go downstairs.
