Jason Bailey (Peer supporter), Amanda Gieser (medical provider), and Breana (Case manager) have been absolutely wonderful support. To be quite honest, if it not been for them, I would be in a deeper ditch but they have been extremely supportive! read more

I started therapy in 2018 with Dr. Phil Scozarro. He's been good for my soul. He's very easy to talk to. I told him during the pandemic that I missed volunteering. He suggested that I try the Akron Civic Theater. I followed his suggestion and it has greatly enhanced my life. I enjoy it so much. He was so proud when I won "Volunteer of the Year" in 2021. I consider therapy the gift that keeps on giving. I think I'll stick with Portage Path. read more

I have personally experienced intake, therapy, and psychiatry at Portage Path Behavioral Health. I can confidently say that the positive aspects of service here are few and far between. My hope is to dissuade potential clients from pursuing their services any further. Getting in touch with PPBH trial in and of itself because their phone lines are busy most of the time. I was very stressed initially because I would not get a response even during business hours. To this day, they only maintain one phone number for their whole office. Even with separate extensions, it is very hard to get in touch with the folks you need, which is not ideal when cancellations/substituted appointments with other practitioners happen fairly often. If you do get your appointment squared away and visit the office, you will first encounter the front desk workers/secretaries. If you have not seen the Google reviews, these individuals tend to be pretty rude, gossipy, and unprofessional. They tend to get lots of questions about their scheduling/messaging system not working which causes many people to come in for nothing against their own conveniences. Rather than being sympathetic to this, their answer has always been to say it's not their problem. I have witnessed this in-person and was once subject to it as a patient myself. The intake lady named Becca was phenomenal. She worked to get me in ASAP and was so kind and compassionate. Similarly, I have liked my psychiatrist pretty well but found out very abruptly that she was only a fellow to be leaving. I don't blame her for this but do wish the office had told me from the start. The therapists have been the serious issue for me. My psychiatrist gave the front desk workers a list of suitable matches for my PTSD. The aforementioned unprofessional workers literally tossed her list of recs when she walked away and assigned me to someone random. After vetting the individual, I found some questionable stuff and switched to another therapist. My experiences with the second therapist have been pretty unfortunate. No coping mechanisms have been offered to me even upon my asking. I have also been left to comfort her about her personal life or say "it's okay" about office shortcomings more than once, and no discussions are relevant to my PTSD. Instead, she changes any complex subject and only talks about the present, going as far as to scoff at me and invalidate my feelings. The services are inexpensive, which is nice. But I would still not recommend going here - especially when it comes to therapy! read more

I want to start off by saying if you are looking to for care and support with mental health, this is NOT the place to go. I began seeking treatment for PTSD after being referred by my primary care in January. I had a wonderful intake process where Rebecca, who did my initial appointment, made me feel valued and heard when it came to my treatment and wellness. She was empathetic to what I was going through, and supportive when I expressed feeling most comfortable speaking with a female psychologist. I left feeling hopeful and motivated after my intake. Everything since then has gone downhill to the extreme. I see Laura Selle as my psychiatrist. On our first visit, I expressed exactly what I went over with Rebecca, and included that I pretty routinely have bad reactions to most medications. My goal was to start things slow given this- hoping to treat my insomnia first to get me sleeping and then following anything in additional she thought I needed. I was immediately put on 3 different medications, and saw her after a month with worsening symptoms of all issues than when I started. Each following visit, she continued to up my mood stabilizer even after expressing I felt my anxiety had been worse, and even went up to 4 days without sleep. I have tried, and been on in the last 2 months: lamical, seroquel, prazosin, Ativan, trazodone, olanzapine, clonidine, and lorazempam. I have never felt more unheard or like medication was just being thrown at me in my life. It never felt like Laura was attempting to hear or understand my symptoms, and she gave me push back when I told her I felt like my symptoms were worse than they'd ever been and it was my wish to come off of everything until I found something that worked well for sleep. In the midst of weekly appointments and new medications, if I ever had any questions about anything, the office staff was extremely rude, condescending, and unclear with their information when I called in with questions. I spoke to Laura about this in early February, and she was sympathetic, stating that this was a reoccurring issue she heard from patients and to ask for her directly next time. In early March, when we started Trazodone, she requested I give her a follow up call after 3 days to discuss any reactions, mania, or if it had helped with sleep. I also asked during this same appointment about FMLA, and Laura said she would be happy to fill out any forms for that. I did have side effects, and I called on Friday as requested. I didn't receive a call back, so I called again Monday. With no follow up by Wednesday, I called again and was transferred to an answering machine. I received two call backs, one from a secretary also named Laura. I expressed on the second call to secretary Laura that I didn't appreciate the ways I was being spoken to, and that my provider had asked me to call her directly. She said to me that she was busy with other patients, which is valid however Selle had TOLD me to call. Secretary Laura also told me to keep in mind that Selle did not have to fill out the FMLA form for me, and that this was being done as a favor. I wasn't even aware Laura Selle had my form, as there were things on the form Unum sent me to fill out for myself. I had no idea what form, if any, she had, nor could I discuss my concerns with the trazodone. I called last Thursday morning and left another message, expressing that I would like to talk to Laura Selle, my provider, directly. No one ever called me back, so I reached out to my primary care who was extremely alarmed by my experience this far. I am moving the rest of my care back to her until I can get in elsewhere. I finally received a call back, but from secretary Laura, who said Laura Selle wanted me to see another psych and today. I forget the name she gave me, but I explained as I have explained to Laura a number of times, I work a 9-5. I also have the appointment for the sleep specialist Laura asked me to see- however never gave a referral which I got with a single phone call to my primary care. I didn't want to have to explain this all over again to the secretary, along with the fact that I have advocated a number of times that I am only comfortable seeing females during my treatment. The name offered to me today was of a male. With this in mind during my first visit with Laura Selle, I was pushed to see a male psychologist named Mike. When I said I wasn't comfortable, she told me he had Sesame Street tattoos...? And that he could really help me with my PTSD. It was pushed firmly, so I felt like I had to say yes. That appointment was also a horrible experience, where I was barely spoken to and told to go home and watch YouTube videos of this famous psychologist Mike was VERY excited to tell me he met. It felt like a fan event for this woman, with absolutely no feedback other than "holy shit" on the small bit of trauma I did share. Go somewhere else! Get a good PC to advocate for you! read more

I've been seeing Lisa Renier for several years, expecting her to eventually notice patterns in my life. I've shared deeply personal and traumatic experiences with her: 1. Family Abuse and Ostracism: * I was ostracized for being gay. * My family abused me in various ways: sexual, physical, verbal, spiritual, emotional, and financial. * I haven't spoken to my family in 10 years due to their constant neglect and abuse. Instead of recognizing this as an accomplishment, she tells me I need to respect their decision to ostracize me. * Seven of my friends, most of whom were LGBT, died from overdose or suicide. * A handful of other friends who shared trauma healing with me, acted on their abuse and assaulted me. * I'm now breaking away from toxic relationships, which has left me feeling isolated. * I've was homeless for seven years, preventing me from making friends for some reasons such as no money, lack of transportation, and unstable housing. When I was finally housed, I was in an apartment 24/7 with no car for years. So I've made only a few online friends as I can't go see people. Her Responses: * She called me a bully for defending my reputation from familial abuse, and for trying to help other family members escape their own abuse at the hands of my abusers by telling the truth about what they did to me. * She claims I have no friends because I'm an angry person; not once has she echoed anything I've said back to her including 7 years of poverty without housing, acknowledged the 7 dead friends I recently lost in the last 5 years, or the toxic relationships I've ended after being sexually assaulted or robbed when I was homeless. I have had several IRL friends for over 10 years, I've seen recently and online friends. Many of them came from poverty like myself and are recovering from abuse and drugs from the nightmare we grew up in. Instead, Lisa told me I have no friends ... Magically, not sure how, and insinuated I have never had friends. I guess if you don't acknowledge it, you can paint your own strawman of your client back to them as a figment to work on together instead of actually working on the client. The actual truth: I wanted help with grief, she instead rolled her eyes and told me I'm lonely because I'm miserable and people just don't like me and claimed I blame everyone for my problems ... Um, Lisa. I don't blame my family for telling me I'm going to hell and that "God hates gays". I don't blame them, because I know it's real; I don't need to blame them. I don't need to blame them for subjecting me to sexual abuse, I know they did those things. My friends who died didn't die because "I'm miserable". My friends who assaulted me didn't sexually assault me because "I'm miserable". The friends I still have who I've known for decades, aren't faking their friendship with me, and they're actual people. You just don't listen to people, and you have conversations with yourself. I have friends; most died of overdoses, some moved away or fell deep into addiction & crime. I never said I have no friends, nor that "everyone's to blame" whatever that means. I'm not on trial. I asked you to help me with grief and dealing with abuse and LGBT oppression. You made up a whole narrative about me having no friends and never having had friends. You need therapy yourself. For someone like myself who's survived what I've survived that's an insane thing to hear a therapist say out of the blue; you are mixing clients up and arguing with yourself maybe. This was my last session. I literally had to argue as she mocked, condescended me, laughed mockingly, ridiculed me, subjected me to sarcasm, and told me nobody likes me because I'm angry. When I told her that I have friends, that most of my friends have died recently, and that she's having a bizarre argument with herself about something that isn't real, she acted confused and changed the subject because she's a narcissist. She didn't apologize, or say, "Oh! I'm so sorry, you're dealing with grief and hardship, let's dive deeper into that." Instead she literally rolled her eyes, became mockingly confused, and left me with a scene of her on virtual video ridiculing me, telling me that nobody likes me and saying I can't keep relationships, accusing me of villainzing everyone and fabricating abuse, and claimed I said I have no friends. How does someone survive 7 years jobless while waiting for disability with no friends, Lisa? Girl, you make up stuff and harass clients. You're a bully. read more

Worst place and medical facility I have ever visited. Continuously kept giving me Ativan instead of giving me a medical professional to talk to. Then when I finally was able to talk to somebody I was so drugged up that I don't even remember the conversation and they chose to admit me to a mental health facility where I was then assaulted. Employees were rude to my mom (also a health care worker) as she was just trying to call and get information about my treatment. Which sucked. read more
