There…read moreis a large retention pond ("lake") for your dog to swim in, in addition to a 1-mile loop of trail for you to walk through. The space is maintained very well. They recently put in a new fence, entrance gate, and gazebo for the human patrons. They will also periodically place gravel in low-lying areas in the park to prevent flooding. The volunteers are very kind, as well. There are many baggie stations, and on the whole, the other patrons are friendly and clean up after their dogs. There was one incident in which a couple would frequent this place with their pair of aggressive German shepherds, but after a few complaints their membership was revoked. The FPDCC and the volunteers are very protective of this place, which makes me feel very comfortable coming here with my dog. This is largely populated by larger dogs, but there is so much space that smaller dogs have plenty of room and are not overrun. Come here in autumn to walk the trails, or brave the snow in winter for a peek at the gorgeous natural landscape. Bring bug spray in the summer - the mosquitos are huge. The price of $55/year may seem somewhat high, but I gladly pay it for access to such a nice facility. Thanks FPDCC!

I have a third dog and each of them can all do their own thing there--it is big enough they all have their own likes so it's perfect for every type of dog my oldest dog is 11 and he doesn't really play fetch doesn't want to hang with other dogs but he loves the freedom to just explore so he'll walk the perimeter of the park while were there he'll mark his territory everywhere he just likes to roam and he loves his freedom to sniff and there's lots of shade for him to relax but he also likes to bask in the sun. my next dog loves to play fetch and so I'll bring my chuck it and just launch it as far as possible so he will sprint back-and-forth a couple times and then go take a break in the shade and get some water at the cute dog water fountain but he loves this huge open space that he can sprint full speed and not worry about a fence or any boundaries or restrictions because he has so much space to just run as fast as he can and he loves it. my last dog is the friendliest dog you'll ever meet he loves making friends at the dog park he loves other dogs he will play at every dogs exact level with puppies with little dogs big dogs he will roll around on the ground to do somersaults with the little dogs he will run and chase after them he'll run away from them and let them chase him he has so much fun he greets everyone who comes in will make friends immediately and it's just his favorite place to go you can tell how happy he is every time we go home after he's made a bunch of friends. there's a huge open space where we usually play fetch and then it turns a corner and there's a nice path with a bunch of tall grass in the back corner so will usually take a couple laps around the path and spend a lot of time in the open area up and we usually stay for about a half an hour at a time maybe a little longer depending on how hot it is that day just because they get so tired so fast cause they're just running running running and having a blast but it's a great place it's a wonderful way to spend time with your dogs to get some energy out and exercise them and let them have a great day it's always a highlight of our day when we go to the dog park and usually we end up getting puppiccinos on the way home from starbucks :)

I have met a lot of wonderful people who have wonderful dogs and have never had a problem with over excited or vicious dogs. I love the fact that anyone that is entering the park has had their dog vaccinated which puts me at ease. The only thing that I would add is a water element for the dogs to run through during the heat. There is access to water for bowls but someplace for them to cool off would be great.

The park district does require vaccination and medical paperwork for all pooches to enter so not anyone can just bring their dog would properly being vetted. You also have to scan your card when you enter in the park so you pretty see the same folks. I love the fact that they have a smaller area for the smaller guys only and people who have small dogs take this very seriously. It's nice to have an area dedicated to the small pooches without fearing a big pup attack. They also have grass which is huge and saves pup's paw pads! Areas of improvement is that they need to clean the park more frequent than they do. There is often poop in the park that of course should be owner responsibility to clean it but the park should do its job to clean the park daily. They should also actively replenish poop bags. All in all, I'm pretty happy my dog has his social club to meet up with his friends for pup hour.

So many different breeds of beautiful dogs eager and excited to play with each other, and their parents, as well. And, of course, they can play alone if they desire...Miller Meadows is large enough for you and your pup to have his/her own space to do whatever they like. And, I often get my daily steps in when my doggy and I are at Miller Meadows. There are close to 2 Laps inside the park for a mile. I often get in 10 miles (20 laps) while we're there...No less than 5 miles. And Miller Meadows is one of the Cook County Preserve Parks, and the dog park is just one area of Miller Meadows. There is a beautiful, amazing path/trail on the outskirts surrounding the dog park with a breathtaking walking scenery of forestry, and wild life...the doggies love the deer. And of course, the path is great for not only walking your doggy, but for biking, jogging, rollerblading/skating, and health walking. There are several picnic tables if you wish to relax sit/eat/chat while watching your dog play; and several stations with poop bags. But, THERE IS NO WATER FOUNTAIN/SUPPLY in the dog park...So, the parents bring water, and we keep the many water pans (already there) filled with water for our doggies. Come for a visit...You'll Love It!!

Portage Park is big enough to go on a pretty long nature walk. Also it's popular for photography and other events. The park has a massive Olympic size swimming pool that has hosted competitions and trials. Best thing about this area is this beautiful green space that's the center of the community. It's got something for everyone. The athletic facilities and fields are the most well known. So many to choose from. These include five baseball fields, two football or soccer fields, and six tennis courts just among the stuff you can find outdoors. Has two fieldhouses. Of course there's also the swimming pool. This has hosted the Pan American Games and also the 1972 Olympic Trials. Also there's an indoor one that's heated. There's an interactive water play area popular in summer. A lot of after school and youth programs are offered. These include gymnastics and woodcraft. Boxing is also a popular program offered here. There's been many who went on to the Olympics and professional careers after being taught. Some come to this park just to get outside. There's a bike path and nature walk if wanting to get easier exercise without using balls and stuff. Good park for all kinds of activities. It's located on Irving Park Road. The CTA station is a ways away, but buses go along this street pretty often, even on weekends.
