Sigh... as I wanted so much to support a local business, I was sadly disappointed. Obviously, the owner was not present and the person helping me has zero knowledge and was really not helpful at all. I believe the business is closed now, but I'm not sure. The place is a disaster and wandering around was both fascinating and creepy at the same time. Found these guys on Craigslist. We discussed the area I was trying to cover with hedges over the week and he delivered them on time. Very informative while unloading, and the hedges look pretty nice so far. Cheaper and far better looking than the same species at HD or Lowes. read more

First off, any person who has children who are as kind and personable as this biz owner does, gives you a clue of how you will be treated. We bought five trees from this wonderful oasis on the outskirts of Lakeport. The maple varieties are healthy and well cared for with daily watering to keep them growing in or out of pots. I noticed other examples of greenery that I will buy when I return. The plants were reasonably priced, questions answered about growth, and the service wonderful. We left feeling happy and satisfied as if we had a fine meal. read more

I have purchased several plants from Trent and I am always happy with the quality. My Japanese maple is gorgeous and very healthy. My Blue Cedar Atlas is a show stopper and the prices are impossible to beat. Trent works hard at getting you what you ordered as quickly as he can and considering he drives several hundred miles a day to deliver orders I'm impressed he keeps it all organized. Very Disappointed !! I have a large orchard and purchased a few trees from this nursery. The Bubblegum Plum trees didn't survive and I do know what I'm doing I have a vast amount of fruit trees that all bear fruit. I tried to talk to the owner of this nursery regarding the trees and he did his best to avoid me, rather than try to work something out as a respectable business man. For the life of me, I don't understand how the previous 5-star ratings are showing, since I too previously rated at 1-Star for this unprofessional business and my rating was removed. Below is the email conversation, Raphael and Nancy J, had with Trent, the owner of Poppy's, regarding sub-par trees, after having $1436 worth of trees and plants delivered. In the end, he suggests that giving him the opportunity to replace the defective product without posting a complaint is "blackmail", and my expectations were too high, because I was expecting the trees to live! Trent: I too wish you had bought your trees at home depot. You are actually blaming me for be unwilling to fulfill a guarantee that I never gave you. You have completely unrealistic expectations of bareroot trees and the amount of time it can take for them to go through shock. You want the low price but you are not willing to take any responsibility yourself. And your threats of trying to blackmail me into giving you your way speaks volumes to your character. Trent Subject: Re: Withered trees I planted the trees in a nice spot - some in large pots and some in the ground immediately after the soaking period you recommended. We have a yard full of pretty trees bought from nurseries, and none of them received the level of care that I gave these new ones from you. When I showed my neighbors the trees to begin with - I prefaced it all with "the maple and fruit trees look dried out to start with... but I imagine they'll come back." They did not all look withered per se to begin with, but all the fruit trees and Japanese maples looked quite dried out. It made me very nervous. Since you delivered them and I assumed you knew what you were doing I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. In retrospect, I wish I had done as you suggested in your last email and simply had you to take them back. I would've saved a lot of money. I imagine the people who have problems simply don't tell you because you are just going to blame them. I do wish I had bought the trees from Home Depot or one of the other places that stands by their products and does not blame the consumer when there is a problem. I will put our entire interaction on Yelp, Facebook and related sites tomorrow evening with additional photos, in case you wish to respond further in the meantime. Should you wish to take some action to remedy the situation, I will just review that the blueberry bushes and blue spruce trees were nice and healthy, which they are. Raphael Trent: I am heading out of town until tuesday. NONE of the trees were withered when they arrived. If they were, you definitely should not have bought them. But they were not. they are in shock, this is to be expected, diligent watering and planting is absolutely necessary. Bareroot trees, as advised, needed to be planted immediately. This is part of the trade off of the low cost. I do not guarantee bareroot trees especially in may/june. I have since sold 40 more to other people who have not had any problems. I cannot stay in business when I have to be responsible for other people's actions. The fact that you are saying ALL of them are dying says something to me about how you took care of them. TRent Subject: Withered trees Dear Trent, When I purchased trees from you, I was concerned about the shape that many of them were in. The fruit trees and Japanese maples seemed all dried out. I soaked their roots for 24 hours as recommended. And gently planted them in high-quality potting soil with a little compost on top. Watered them each day. They are in a place with some sun but also not too hot. So far I would say all the trees look bad, except for the blue spruces. Two walnuts are already dead and everything else looks like they will die within a week. I have bought a lot of trees from nurseries in Santa Rosa Home Depot etc. I have never had a tree die right off the bat, or look so withered upon delivery. If they had looked like that in the photos I would've not bought them. Once they were delivered that way, I felt I just needed to be optimistic. I would like to give you the opportunity to respond, and hopefully replace the trees that are not going to survive. I am happy with the blueberries and blue spruces. It is the Japanese maples apple trees and walnuts that look like they are in peril. You're welcome to come over and see for yourself. I tried to take photos but it's really hard to get a good shot. Hidden nursery at in Kelseyville! Very large selection of fruit trees and shading trees also blueberry bushes! Not as organized as I would have liked but the job gets done here! I bought about 10 trees and a blueberry bush from them all the trees are thriving by but the reliance peach is having a slow start! read more

We bought a Japanese Maple and several other plants from Poppy's Nursery. He gave us a great deal on a small distressed maple. It is now doing well and beautiful to look at. Hard to believe he will drive all the way here and only charge a small delivery fee. We are looking to buy more trees and will definitely buy from Trent again. read more

Trent delivered two trees to me short notice, and they are both doing great. His prices are very fair, and his service was also quick and fairly priced. Both trees were just as I had hoped. I would have spent three times as much if I had purchased from my local nursery. He has a large variety of trees that you would not find at the average nursery. I purchased a blue atlas and a laceless maple. That being said, Trent seems like a nice guy who delivers a variety of ornamental trees for a really competitive price. I was so excited to find this gem of a nursery!! It is a great family that owns it and they have great customer service. I bought some bare root trees from them with very little growing experience. Trent was so helpful, he even threw in an extra tree in case I killed one of them! The trees I bought are all doing well and I'm so excited to eventually buy more! We were looking into getting some trees for our property and after looking at some local nursery's and our budget I looked on Craigs and found Trent's listing. We ended up getting about 4 times more trees than we would have elsewhere. We got a little ovver 200 bareroot trees of various ornamental style and even a couple fruiting and after transplanting all of them listening to Trents advice we only lost 1. He delivered them right to our property we recently went up to his nursery and picked up 30 more Blueberry bushes in great condition and they are all producing fruit now, we just got them 3 weeks ago. His nursery is great, he is full of knowledge if you need help, his chickens entertained our 2 year old and one of the cats tried to stow away with us on the way home, all and all a nice family trip to lake county. I would recommend and have recommeneded his business to friends and family. Tired of Home Depot bare root trees that are overprice and underdeveloped, we checked out Poppy's Nursery. Given the price, the size and condition of the trees is fantastic. We bought prunes, pears, plums, and apples, all which are doing well since planting. Also bought incredible blueberry bushes which are heads above any we have purchased at any other nursery around Lakeport or even online. I would also note that they were all generous and kind to our little kids who may have enjoyed the hospitality even more than we did and spent the whole time roaming the property. They even gave our daughter an egg to take with her from their chickens. This will be our go-to place for our trees and bushes. read more

I had bought some apple and plumb trees from trent for my place in town. He sold me a couple of plumb trees he called bubble gum. One of them died and when i saw him in Upperlake at the big red barn i told him what happened and asked if he would replace it.. The look he gave me was the look as if i was ripping him off and he walked away from me. WOW can you belive that! I will never buy from him again thats for sure.
