My husband and I stopped in to Cascade Restaurant 2 separate times during our weekend trip up to Lutsen. The restaurant was conveniently located 5 minutes from our lodging- Thomsonite Inn. When you first enter, you grab a menu, sit wherever is open, and order at the register which is a different set-up but worked well for them. Our 1st visit, I ordered the seafood chowder and fried chicken dinner which were both phenomenal. Every spoonful of the chowder was filled with clams and fish. The portion size of the extra crispy fried chicken fed me for 2 nights. I left there so satisfied! When we came back for breakfast, I had another delicious meal of the avocado toast with balsamic glaze. I would definitely come back here for the delicious food next time we road trip up North again.

We were told they were at full capacity with a 45 min wait but then our kind server moved around a few tables for us and got us in. Very considerate. The till style ordering works very well as it gives everyone a chance to order when they are ready, removing the frustration of eating for a server. (Wait was surprisingly short, pleasantly surprised.) Food was good! I had a house salad because I wasn't feeling like anything big, but it was a great salad. Side note- spent about an hour admiring this fish with my dad and heatedly debating what type of fish it is. Only to notice after all this time there was a title under it Came for the food, stayed for the fish

Adorable 1BR rustic cottage, classically decorated, located on a bluff amidst the treetops with panoramic views of Lake Superior. Just a couple miles from downtown Grand Marais so super convenient to everything. Wraparound deck for a beautiful sunny spot to have morning coffee or a whole meal. Full eat-in kitchen (fridge, gas stove/oven, micro) & full bath w tub. Cute living room. Other cabins are located far enough apart to really give sense of privacy. And price was better than crappy strip motels in town. Robert Lund seemed to be a sweet older gentleman - just a basic family operation so don't expect frills. Take note: he operates on cash only.

Fully equipped for relaxing and the little kitchen is special - you face the windows and the main room so it is really pleasant to cook for yourself or any company that is enjoying this 2 bedroom cabin with you. It has a wonderful deck as well. It does not have a fireplace but the view of Lake Superior is up high and 180 degree view of the - LAKE. There is a community fire pit that is just outside the door and with only 5 cabins - each one unique and special! I loved it and Robert Lund is treasure as is the resort. It's part of what makes Grand Marais so special indeed! We did not have internet but our phones worked perfectly and we were able to use our cell phones as a hotspot to use our laptop computers. Worked pretty well and easy to do.

Let me tell you, what a roll of the dice. Based on reviews, I was frightened by what I would see…read moreand experience. On arrival, our room was clean. Clean sheets, clean towels, clean carpeting, clean bathroom. My wife, who was apprehensive was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. We booked the family room which has 2 Queens in one room and 1 king in a connected room. The price and bed count is what made me book this hotel. We stay Thursday - Sunday. The room was spacious, the king room was an awesome upgrade to shut the door and allow the kids to watch their shows in the other room. The beds were fine. Were they a tempurpedic? Sleep Number? Memory foam? Pillow top? NO! But for $100 a night, what do you think you are paying for? The room had a dorm room fridge with small freezer, the freezer kept our frozen fruit frozen. The room also has a microwave. The televisions are a bit small, but they are smartly equipped so you can log into any of your subscription services for television. Breakfast was ok. Small assortment of everything. Get there at 8 am to have your choice of everything otherwise a family of 6 like ours will clear out much of breakfast. The gluten free options at breakfast were select cold cereals, oatmeal, applesauce, and yogurt. For the carb lovers, they had bagels, pancakes, prepackaged cream filled bagel, loaves of bread, and cinnamon bread. For $100 a night? It was great. We packed breakfast bowls which we stashed in the fridge and ate every morning before topping off at the continental breakfast. Now, we came during the Winter for a ski trip. There are no bugs in the winter. We didn't experience any bugs except the 1 stray Asian beetle who seemed lost. So, all in all, lower your expectation. This isn't a chain place. This is a privately owned hotel. When I interacted with the front desk, they were very kind, helpful and responsive to our needs. IF you think you are booking a nice hotel, you aren't, but the room will be warm in the winter, bed will be sleepable, showers were hot every morning, and then Northern Minnesota is the experience, not the hotel.

We had some issues with a few of our cards not working but it was not a serious problem. Unfortunately, there were no silverfish or bed bugs as advertised. The beds are comfy but once again did not have bed bugs. The free breakfast before leaving to ski early in the morning was spot on. The hot tub was closed but we made do with the spacious bath tub.
