I ordered the Supreme snow cone with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle, a white elote in a cup, and hot Cheetos with cheese. I devoured the hot Cheetos and cheese before I could get a photo, and unfortunately spilled half of my raspa before I could make it through the front door of the house :( . Anyway, I salvaged what I could and thoroughly enjoyed every last bit of the raspa. The elote really hit the spot as well. I live in San Antonio and can't find anything comparable to the elote in the RGV (San Antonians like their yellow elote). Being that snowcones is a very big thing down in RGV, i'm beginning to have my fair share of them. I have noticed people use different textures and styles in their snowcones and their ice. I absolutely love this place for their snow cones. The ice is almost what I would describe as fluffy or soft which sounds odd but makes a lovely treat. After a hot morning we wanted a cool treat before checking in to our hotel. We saw that this was close by and had great reviews. Thursday 2:30pm and it was BUSY. Long line out into the street. It took us all together 40 minutes of idling in the parking lot to get our orders. We had time to kill so we didn't mind. Our ice cream, fruit cup and sno cone were really good! Raspas were not nearly as good as Snowball Express. i ordered a mangonada and i was given nothing but mango raspa with a few pieces of mango. NO CHAMOY. I drove around back to the window, and the lady proceeded to say that it didn't come with it so i was charged an extra $1 for the smallest amount of chamoy. The other raspa ordered had no flavor. Will not be going back. Only gave 2 stars because the first man to take my order was really sweet and kind. read more

There is ALWAYS atleast 5 cars waiting in line during the summer. If you have the misfortune of being in the Valley (it's hot!!!!) during the summer and need something to cool off, go here. There are a ton of Raspa (shaved ice, snow cone) stands everywhere but none are as good as Popeye's. You have to try it to understand. The place has its quirks (a weird "U" turn you have to do to get to the drive through, you order through the passenger side window, they collect your money with a fish net.) but it's worth it. What I like about this spot is that they have a lot of creative raspas and you can get them in any size. Usually I just want a small and they do that without any problem. But what I don't like is that they are drive through only. How am I supposed to eat a raspa and drive? Plus it can take 30-45 minutes waiting in the car to get to order. The raspas are good but I don't find them any better than most other places and I would rather get out of my car so that I can actually eat my raspa without it melting while I drive home. read more

In Dallas, they called it shaved ice. At home in the Valley, it's a raspal Either way, it's freaking delicious. This is a little taste of home complete with signature flavors I have yet to find anywhere else. With crazy combinations like a picadilly (a raspa with pickle shavings and a chili-kool aid powder) and deluxe (coconut and almonds, yum!), Popeye's is the original raspa in the RGV. They have lots of little quirks like funky names, a fishnet to grab your money, and the same other things that they sell that nobody buys. Airheads, anybody? snow cones are good, but the lady (the owner) is very rude, last time i was there i asked for a cherry pickadilly, she gave me a grape, since i dont like grape and i wanted to enjoy my snow cone, i asked if she could change it since thats not what i had ordered, she was so rude to me, she said thats what i ordered and refused to change it and also refused a refund, this was 4 years ago, i never went back, i would visit them almost every single day, they lost my business forever read more
