I yam what I yam, and that's all that I yam! This roadside attraction is worth a stop- I brake for spinach! It's all here- the Popeye statue, bathroom facilities, local info and info on the creator of Popeye (born in Chester), a lookout deck onto the Mississippi River. I liked the signage about the characters, many of whom were based on real "characters" from Chester. There was an actual guy that was like Wimpy who liked hamburgers? Mind blown. We happened to just be driving by, and lucky us! He's strong to the finish, cuz he eats his spinach, he's Popeye the Sailor Man!

Who knew Popeye was from Illinois? I certainly didn't, but when I heard it was a short trip off of Hwy 55 in Missouri, I knew I needed to check this out. After crossing over the Mississippi River on the Chester Bridge you will come to the Welcome Center for Chester and home to the Popeye Statue. If you are fortunate to get there when the welcome center is open, they have lots of information available inside on the town and area available. Even if they aren't open, the restrooms and some of the information is still available which is nice as well. Make sure you take a few moments to step out on the over look and look out over the Mighty Mississippi, it's a beautiful view. Also be sure to read about the Chester Bridge's History, it is quite fascinating. Before you head out be sure to grab a map of the town that will lead you around to see the 12 exhisting statues of Popeye's pals. Be sure to eat your Spinach!

" Popeye Statue is Awesome " Popeye's Statue is located in Seagar Memorial Park in Chester, IL. They also have a welcome center where you can read about the history of Chester. You can view the Chester Bridge from the center. This is a great place to start your tour of Chester, IL.

Don't forget to map out all of the others, too. Our next favorites were the nephews & the dog locations.

Ground was covered in recycled tire treads, and the play equipment was just her size. There were a few benches, a pavilion with picnic table, and porta potty nearby in the area where she played. There are also some fun and unique features: - there is a small but picturesque waterfall (a bridal party was taking photos while we were there) - there is a mini Statue of Liberty, how fun and patriotic! - there was also a war memorial with some remembrance benches Of course, there were also some typical park attractions like a (very hilly) walking path; gazebo; pavilions with picnic tables and grills; koi pond; basketball hoop; and shady, grassy spaces to enjoy and be one with nature. This is a small park, and park was either street side or in one of two very small lots. This is not a busy spot. If you come here, it's to enjoy some quiet time with a grandchild (or niece or kids!), have a small friend and family gathering, and relax in DeSoto's small town hospitality. They take good care of their parks!
