Handmade....recycled....and creative to boot! Popcycle is a little piece of green heaven. I popped in a few times this summer and made it in for their birthday a few months ago. They were so excited to celebrate and even gave away free popsicles! Seriously, the employees are some of the most adorable women I've ever met. Even better, they're artists themselves and make a number of the products found in Popcycle. They have everything from handmade stools, to clothing, jewelry, and much more. I always have a blast browsing through the uber-creative, handmade, one-of-a-kind gifts and laugh-out-loud greeting cards at Pop-cycle. On our first visit, my husband and I bought a Christmas tree ornament -- a poinsettia made from an aluminum pop can. Hard to picture, maybe. But it really is a beautiful thing! What I love more: it's so clever, interesting and, of course, eco-friendly. Pop-cycle is sophisticated without being snooty. The women who work there are always smiling and eager to explain the origin of a particular piece or tell you about the artist. This is my favorite store in Tucson. I've bought several gifts for friends here and have decorated my own house with items purchased here. Every time a friend visits, I take them here for souvenirs. The shop features a wide variety of arts and crafts made by local artists. I always get gifts for my mom from Pop-Cycle since it's exactly her style: colorful, practical items made fun by some very creative artists. Some of my favorite purchases have included their magnets (with some very funny pictures and sayings), jewelry (bottlecaps and felt bracelets), and stuffed animals (all very cute and quirky). One of my favorite parts of the store is the woman who I always see at the register. I'm afraid I can never remember her name (as we always joke with each other since I was a daily visitor for a while), but she's incredibly sweet and helps pick out awesome gifts and wrapping paper. I absolutely adore her! She makes me feel like I'm digging through a cool friend's attic instead of shopping (which I usually hate to do). read more

This is one of my new favorite shops in town, and I stop by every time I'm on 4th Ave. during daylight hours. As the name would suggest, the store's wares combine the best of kitschy pop-art and recycled fashions/materials. As best as I can tell, the store is owned by a local artist (who seems to have a workshop in the back), and the stock is eclectic. I also get the sense that the owners like to support the local scene and take work by other artists on consignment (maybe I'm wrong, though) Here's a sampling of the items I spent part of my Sunday drooling over: 1. Old, weathered, re-finished cabinet doors decoupaged with hand-tinted art (Frida Kahlo seems to be a favorite, but there are also vintage photos, rustic postcards, and the occasional celebrity mug shot). 2. Western apparel, vintage shirts, ties, baby jumpers, scarves, etc embroidered with fantastically unique, googly-eyed monsters. 3.Purses and handbags made out of reclaimed metal (e.g. license plates and soda cans) 4. Funky jewelry galore. The place has an almost indescribable warm, inviting, bohemian feel to it, and the staff is friendly. They are always happy to talk about the work they're doing or to show you how the various pieces are made. Shopping here is a delight, because each of the pieces feel like one-of-a-kind items, and the stock is ever-rotating, so I always find new, shiny objects to stare at. Also, given that this is a home-spun, local operation, the prices are eminently reasonable. I would even be willing to pay a little bit more than the asking price for many of the store's goods. If you need to spice up your fridge, buy a gift for a special hipster in your life, or find an irreverent tie to add some much needed flair to a stodgy suit, Pop-cycle is definitely the place. My all time FAVORITE lil shop on the planet. There's really nothing here I have not loved, you can get something for mom sister brother friend I don't think that there is a person and her life that you can forget at this place. Every week something new and Unique is in the shop. There is something cool and different every day. I have traveled all over the United States and there it's not one shop better than this virus. You have to know that you can get anything your heart desires here. They already have things that you will never find anywhere else on this planet but you can ask them to ask that our best to make you something that fits your style. I'm super impressed the prices are amazing the people are wonderful and I don't care if the product change from day to day or week or week I love them all! I just spent a week on Valencia and Haight (not an intersection, but districts -- for those looking to hate) in San Francisco and walked my old 'hoods in the old shops. Everything is different. The problem that applies to Pop-Cycle is that they are all cute. Most of the stuff they carry LOOKS like it's from SF, but rarely are things in the window from the neighborhood (many, even this country!) When I shop in Pop-Cycle, I KNOW that it is Tucson indigenous. Aside from the cost difference (being SF) the authenticity that is within every piece makes every purchase even more valuable and intimate. I couldn't love you more. read more

Love this boutique! I have popped in during street fairs and always thought, "hmmm, I need to come here and buy something one of these days." Well, it finally happened! I love all of the Arizona/Tucson items - great for visitors or just those of us who call the desert home. Their signature item seems to be the felt & googly-eyed creatures/cacti/skulls that they place on hats and shirts. You will see these little adorable guys around town (like at Gio Taco). I picked up a great, quality cowboy shirt with a googly-eyed bull, as well as a couple pieces of wall decor for a friend. The staff was so friendly and offered us free gift wrap! I had really low expectations for this place until I visited with a hospitality group recently, and was pleasantly surprised by PopCycle.
