Designed by Charles Rene Mackintosh, probably the most famous architect to come out of Glasgow. I…read morewould best describe him as a proto-modernist who was way ahead of his time and somehow achieved architecture, furniture, and design that could be both described as minimal and also Art Nouveau. Out of all the places you can visit in Glasgow I would recommend this one as closest to the original intent. Other places have had to unfortunately modernize with exit signs, lighting, etc... that were not part of the original vision. On site there is a gift shop, cafe with indoors and outdoor seating, upstairs private meeting room and wedding area, and of course rooms designed by Mackintosh. The only unfortunate name is "House For An Art Lover". It seems somehow not so serious and I think it should have just been called "Mackintosh House". This was designed in paper in 1908 but not completed until 1996, there is an alcove between the 1st and 2nd story that has a scale model and reproductions of the design drawings. The thing I LOVED is there were no barriers and you could touch and sit anywhere you want. There is a room with a fancy piano and I was surprised you could sit there and play on it, listened to our oldest play Minuet in G and felt like we were transported back in time. This is the room that shows up in a lot of photography and our favorite.

As you enter there is a £7 entry fee and you will be handed an audio guid and instructed to head upstairs where you will find stunning Mackintosh designed rooms including the main hall, the oval room and my favourite: the music room and the staircase! This is definitely a wonderful place to visit whether your a Mackintosh fan or not!

It's also an excellent price to hire, especially on a Sunday as we did! I got married here in 2011. The staff are helpful and friendly and as soon as we were shown round we knew it was where we wanted to celebrate our big day. It didn't disappoint, we were able to customise it with our own decor and were very lucky with a gorgeous sunny day to enjoy being outside the Loggia downstairs for our champagne reception and also have some lovely photos taken in the park. We had a humanist ceremony here and managed to squeeze in 139 guests! :) One of the main reasons we chose it (other than being a stunning building with beautiful hallways and the large Maxwell room) was the option to bring in any caterer so we were able to have an Indian feast and set up our own cheese table for after! Amazing! We also had plenty of indoor space in case we weren't so lucky with the weather. I've also taken pilates classes here and I believe there are plenty of other events on throughout the year as well. I just love the building and still like to visit and have a walk round the outside.

Inside, the rooms are beautiful - I love the stained glass and the venue is a perfect size for a wedding with space for people to spill out of the main hall for a chat or bar break. Gorgeous.

The structural complex itself is interesting to walk past and have a look as this was the location of an older (smaller and simpler) version of the more modern - a.k.a 1752 - Pollok House which now stands in the distance. Hence, there is some interesting history to the location and previous uses of this site for all the historians among you. Or, of course, people with social interest in Pollok Country Park and its previous inhabitants. Meanwhile, the four Clydesdale horses continue to heighten the Park's attractiveness to visitors and tourist. This is mainly done through, the extremely child friendly and entertaining horse drawn open top waggons that take groups of children, and adults, on rides through the park. These are often every hour to every half hour from the 1st of April till the 31st of October (e.g. the spring and summer seasons).

It is not to exhilarating but you will get a view all-round the park of every nook and cranny it has to offer. The Old Courtyard Stables being in Pollock Country Park are accessible to all from the city centre of Glasgow, being only about 3 miles out of the city. There also public transport links by means of bus if you don't have a car. Worth a visit if you like this sort of thing, you know such as castles, old mansions, history. The Stables are set in a beautiful surrounding which whilst on-site you can very nearly imaging them in their hay day and full working order.

It is a fairly standard hall: stage for a band or speakers, retaining many original features including the ceramic tiles along the staircase: it even ha an upstairs balcony for the auditorium. It is a versatile space, and I have attended political meetings, parties and yoga classes here: the rates are apparently quite reasonable. There was once a huge public forum event on the regeneration of Shawlands, which was taken up with detailed discussion of the Arcade and the parking problems. It wasn't riveting, but at least everyone got a seat and the sound system was clear. I also attended a day set up by Govanhill's famous "Save Our Pool" campaign. That turned the space into a mixture of political fair and speakers' corner, with groups hiving off to the smaller rooms for intense conversations. It looks as if it would be grand enough for a nice wedding reception, too. It hasn't really taken on the role of a community hub, though: the actual classes that happen here are mysterious and a bit more public information would be helpful. It had a Christmas fair in November and I know about the yoga classes: I've even tried to sign up for a course at Langside College here. It is a well used venue, but could do with an advertising blitz.
