It has beautiful marble from regional as well as international locations and wrought iron and cast iron railings. The docent guided tour is an excellent way to learn about its history as well as see the chambers of the senate and house of representatives as well as learn about the governors and the architecture. Our tour lasted a little bit over an hour so if you have time on your hands and interested in this kind of stuff, it's a great choice. If you don't have the time but still interested in the building, you can also do a self guided tour but I'm not sure you can go see the chambers without the docent.

The Capitol originally housed all 3 branches of government, with the Legislative branch still remaining. The Capitol is 402 ft wide, 225 ft deep, with a total of 171,000 square ft. The central dome rises 180 feet above ground level. The main Rotunda is located on the 2nd floor with walls of Italian white marble trimmed with Belgian black marble. The people who work here are pretty grumpy. The lady who answered the phone hung up on me because I…read moretold her that the information on their website was inaccurate. I was trying to make her job easier! If the info on the web was correct, she wouldn't have to answer as many repeated FAQs via the phone. Then, Yvonne, was really rude when I got here to get my license. She acted very irritable and needs to be re-reminded that she's a public employee and her job is to serve. The line was already outside at 8:10am. Having said that, I was in and out in 45 minutes which is reasonable, I think, for getting a license. If the people were a bit friendlier, this place would be a 4 for me. Overall, pretty smooth process. You get your ID right away. It's not mailed to you later, which is convenient.

I am here now August 3rd, I brought my 71 year old Mother in to get her license renewed and to…read morethe change over to Mississippi license. This is our 3rd visit within a week. I am from California and I have never seen anything like this before with any of the DMVs offices in California. The average wait time here is three to four hours. After this visit today we will be here for a total of 9 1/2 hours at the DMV Office. The employees move very slow and not concerned about the process to get anything accomplished. The service process is horrible. It appears that the employees are disgusted and don't care. We came in on July 24th my Mom did not pass the vision test. We waited three hours before her number was called. By that time my Mother was tired and nervous about taking a test. We were not told at the information counter that she would have to take a test. We returned on August 1st, we came in at 2:30pm , we waited for 2 hours did not receive service. At 4:30pm we were kicked out and return today. The young lady/employee at the counter smiled when we checked in and said good luck with getting help today because we are behind. The same person announced at 430pm that they were closing now. The state of Jackson Mississippi needs to invest time and money to redesign the service process at all the DMV facilities. I can't believe the residents of Jackson Mississippi, the "tax payers" are treated like this. This has to be the worst within the United States. I will be reporting this experience to a higher power.
