Cheap, fast, and polite. About as good as it gets. Parking is available in the tiny cramped lot in front of the building, as well as on the street. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The guy behind the counter was able to locate the exact battery I was looking for in seconds, and the price was almost half that of the nearby Battery World. They even had it in stock, so I was out the door in minutes with a nice shiny new battery. Will definitely pop by here for all of my future battery needs. read more

I want to give them 5 stars years ago but I can't due to a recent incident that happened last year. In the past I only come here to purchase a battery that is 6V 42AH for my emergency lights. So like always I showed up here. This battery is not cheap and is about $150. So they said told me that they don't have it in stock and would need to order it. It will take about 3 days to come in. I need this battery urgently because I have inspectors coming in. So 3 days later, I showed up and they told me they couldn't order it because it was discontinued. You could have told me that in the first place and I could have went somewhere else to look for it. Their things are not cheap to be honest. I have bought other items from them like an alarm battery which the alarm (at home) battery is $30 and last about 5 years. So to be honest, they charge a premium for their stuff pretty much because it either comes oversea or the USA. For my 6V 42AH, I ended up going accross the boarder and ordered it from Interstate Battery and had it shipped to Blaine. The battery which would have costed me $150 to $200 (at some other store) costed me about $80 Cdn. That is like double the price for battery in Canada. Don't for get the one if I got from Polar would be made in Taiwan and the one I bought from Interstate made in the USA. After the 6V 42AH incident, I stopped coming here. Super helpful. Yes, they get my vote. I've never been a fan of rechargeable stuff. The reason being, you have to replace the cells at some point. These guys are the guys to come to if you need to. Honesty and quite willing to give you advice even if you don't bring your business there. I know that I will be replacing the cell in my battery pack for my camera flash at some point. It's close to 20 years old and still firing. This time, I have two 18 volt cells that I needed to be rebuilt. They were quite happy to test out my batteries as well as my charger. Free of charge. Used to be great ... changed ownership and service levels changed .. used to exchange batteries under warranty no questions asked .. now they want to check them , try and charge them , call us next week etc . Don't let their circa 1992 website put you off! Their location is also nothing to brag about either in a dingy industrial park but these folks have got what you need and are super helpful. I totally was expecting some humming and hawing before filtering through catalogs and then making a special order for the very specifically sized, non-spillable, rechargeable battery I needed. Service is fast and efficient but the staff do not seem overly interested in building relationships or answering questions. If you know exactly what your needs are then this is a good shop for you. If you need information,advice, or want to learn something to trouble shoot a situation I am not so sure. I brought a battery in that I purchased from Polar last year and explained to the guy at the counter that I wanted to know if it was holding a charge properly as my motorcycle was having difficulty/not starting. I also explained that I removed the battery from the bike over the winter and put a tender on it before storing. The staffer checked the amps with a meter, told me it was okay. I learned later that a load test would have actually told me more about the condition of the battery. I am at a loss as to why this was not suggested by the staff or why there didn't seem to be much interest in identifying the problem. read more

I needed a new starting battery for my Sierra 4x4 but first I wanted to get my present battery tested to determine if I could use it as a back up battery when I am in remote areas. A tech tested my battery determined it was undercharged but useable. So I returned two days later to get a new starting battery installed. As I was paying for the battery, the guy on the cash register told me I'd have to install it my self as it was too much work to for them to do. I wanted to keep my old battery. So, I said I'd go elsewhere. The manager said they were too busy to do the work as it involved taking off two brackets to gain access and they weren't interested. I had no problem going elsewhere, like Phils Battery where my present battery came from. The tech who originally tested my battery stepped up and said it was no trouble he would do the work. 15 minutes later my new battery was installed. That's when I was told it had only two years warranty. I am willing to pay double what I paid to get a good, reliable battery. My truck gets used in very cold weather and remote areas. In addition they charged me $15.00 to put it in and $10. 00 core charge because I kept my old battery. Their crappy service, over charging and bad attitude to taking care of a retail customer has earned them none of my future business and my relating my poor experience to my retail customers of whom I have 20 or more a day. Next week I will return to Phils Battery in Surrey, buy a new, good battery and I will save this 2 year battery as a back up and leave with no extra charges and a five year warranty. read more

Always great deals in batteries. If it takes time to build your battery packs, it's because you're not their only customer. They supply the movie industry, medical supply & technology, the government just to name a few. So no, there probably not going to drop everything & take 20 min to do yours. If you are quoted a price and when you get there it's more, it's probably because you didn't supply the right info or measurement, etc & a different type is required thus the price difference. People can only quote on the info you give them. If what you say over the phone is incorrect then yes the price will differ. I've been buying from here since '93. This review is in addition to the one I wrote for "Polar Battery" - they are the same company and operate next door to each other. But the difference is that "Polar ADVANCED Battery Technologies" work with more specialized batteries like the tiny ones in your watch/calculator or even a battery pack for your 5 year old laptop. Again the people are super helpful and knowledgable but in the case of specialty batteries, you may have to give them some time to research the availability of the battery to specially order it in. And price wise as well on all your rechargeable and small common batteries are at a much better price than you would pay at a drug store. If you want to make an inquiry over the telephone, just make sure to double check it's the specialty battery side because sometimes the other side will answer their phone for them. read more

When I needed an Optima Yellow Top (DS46B24R) battery, the one with the pencil pins and one of the few batteries compatible with the Toyota Prius, Polar was the only store that I found that had it. Brought in some rechargeable battery packs that needed replacing. It should take about 20 minutes to build these things but I was told "next week". The following week I was told the same thing. Same story the third week. I gave up and took my business elsewhere. I've had good service here before but this is more than an oversight. read more
