Though I try to make my own buddha and poké bowls at home and bring them for lunch (what is the…read moredifference between the two bowls anyway?), I don't always get up in time. Luckily, Moé Poké is down the street from my office. Either get there early or really late, or get your bowl to go. If the long line makes you think twice, it moves faster than you think. This could be, in part, because of the helpful, super friendly staff behind the counter. As my American friend exclaimed, "I've never seen such friendly service in France!" When we went last week for takeout, I composed my own bowl. You have two size options: small for 9.90€ (3 servings of protein--they use a mini ice cream scoop to parcel them out), and large for 13.90€ (5 servings from mini scoop). I chose the large, with a brown rice base, three servings of tuna, one shrimp, and one tofu, and then we moved onto the rest. You can add a slew of veggie toppings with some, like avocado and mango and hummus, for 1€ extra. Then you move to the sauce: spicy, sweet, curry, gluten-free tamari and mint... I tried their Moé sauce, made of soy, sesame, lemon, and ginger. Last stop is the garnish bar, where you can get toppings like cilantro, crispy onions, sunflower seeds, chives and nachos. I thoroughly enjoyed my bowl, and it kept me full for the rest of the day. Maybe I should forget to bring my lunch more often!

Hawaiian Poké - spicy ahi and coco loco poke bowl

We found this place via a combination of the "Advisor of Trips" and the Googz. The fact the poke looks more traditionally Hawaiian was the biggest selling point. But why even try poke in Paris when there are SO MANY OTHER OPTIONS? To be honest, there's only so much meat, cheese, and bread that we can handle. (Also, I'm pretty sure I drank more wine in 10 days than I have in my lifetime.) So, off to Hawaiian Poké we went! Since they're only open during the lunch hour, we found it to be a perfect stop before an adventure in the Louvre. The staff was friendly and my limited/non-existent French-speaking abilities were able to get me through ordering easily enough. The only "snafu" was my misunderstanding of the word "chopsticks." So, we almost didn't end up with utensils...ALMOST. I ordered one "Classic" (regular) sized bowl. This comes with a choice of 1 base, 3 accompaniments/sides, and 2 fish. (For reference, as of August 2021 - the "Big"/large bowl is 1 base, 4 accompaniments/sides, and 3 fish.) They have 3 total base options, about 7 different sides, and 7-8 pre-marinated protein choices. My memory is a little shoddy already (must be all the wine), but I believe they had one to two vegetarian options for protein (like tofu or mushrooms). My final bowl consisted of: --White Rice --Sunomuno, Edamame, Chou Rouge (Red Cabbage) --Spicy Ahi (Tuna) & Coco Loco (Salmon) Final verdict? The bowl was great! Perfectly fluffy rice. All items went well together. And, if we're being honest, it was better than some poke I've had on Mainland (that's a keyword) America. It's honestly a delicious, light snack to share with another person if you've got A LOT of walking ahead of you. Or you can get your own bowl, no judgment here. While the spicy ahi was as expected, the Coco Loco - which contains coconut, basil & mint - was a nice, creamy and refreshing marinade. The only gripe was that the portion of fish was a little small. We ate at one of the (two?) seating areas outside. While we were eating, a decent-sized line started to form. It moved quickly, though! Probably because this establishment has been around for a while. Mahalo nui loa/merci beaucoup/thanks so much, Hawaiian Poké!
