I wish I could try this place for the first time again. I've been coming here instead of Poke House in Santa Cruz after I found out about this place. I think it's a lot less well known but it's got its charm. You order by filling out a paper and then give it to the cashier to then make it. I usually always get tofu since I don't eat raw fish, but my friends and team has said that the food has been good nonetheless and for a pretty good price and portion! Ambiance can do a bit better since it does smell weird in there sometimes but it's a cute little place and the owner is pretty friendly! read more

I finally stopped by this little spot as I had an event nearby. The building itself is not the nicest, but the food was really good and seemed really fresh! I am a big poke fan and this is one of the more affordable options in town. I would say compared to other spots in town it also seemed fresher and the portion was huge! CUSTOMER SERVICE : Horrible. Bad customer service. Very ignorant and rude. No greeting and the way she talk sounds like shes iritated. We ask our food to go and she gave us our first two bowl. We notice her mistakes. I open up my bowl to taste the food and see if it's ok to eat. She shouted over the counter "is it for here or to go"!? She seems scared to see us eat inside or clean up after us... She was watching us every second, like we were about to break something. We ordered 4 bowls and she takes about more than 25 minutes to finish our bowls. I paid in cash and she didn't give me back my receipt and change. COMMUNICATION : Bad at following instruction. I ask the lady if she has spicy mayo and she walk away to grab me garlic mayo. Gave me some sauce to try it without even talking or anything. I wanted her to mix the garlic mayo and unagi sauce with my protein but for some reason she made up her own way to mix the sauce in my protein by separating the protein and put the sauce separately. I didn't ask for seaweed and she gave it to me. I ask for light onion chip but there were a whole lot of onion chips in there. BOWL PORTION : The sauce is so little that you can't even taste anything. She gave us a big portion of rice and little protein. INTERIOIR : lighting is bad. Food seems not fresh at all. Out dated. OVERALL : I wouldn't recomend this place. My family and I decided to stop here for some lunch and it was so bad that we regret going here. We were so nice and patient. We waited quietly. Been coming to this spot for years. Had my fav poki. Turns out there's been a change of ownership. Salmon is now being cooked? Tuna tastes different. Rice is no longer sushi rice. Owners should try and revert back to the original poki recipe and fish. So I clearly picked the wrong thing off the menu. I ordered the ramen with pork belly, and although the pork belly itself was tasty, I'm pretty sure they just opened a cup-o-soup and put it in a bowl and put the meat in there too. The rest of my family got poke bowls and theirs seemed pretty good. No one had complaints there. Fish seemed fresh. Sauces seemed flavorful. It was totally empty when we walked in at 6:30 on a Wednesday, but then there proceeded to be a steady stream of costumers that arrived, and there was only one employee working. Who also seemed to be taking GrubHub orders. She handled it relatively well considering she was the only one there, but people had to wait a while. So, yeah, questionable management. read more

My friend got the spice scallop which I recommend. Overall, I think it could've used more rice and the scoops should've been bigger. A plus is that seaweed salad was free! Hidden gem in Santa Cruz! So many fresh fish and toppings to choose from! I got albacore and tuna, medium size (3 scoops of fish) and it was HUGE! Portions are awesome and you get so many options, would definitely eat here every week if we lived close. My boyfriend and I both ate a BYOB with tuna and salmon. Halfway through eating the bowl, I noticed that some of the tuna had a weird texture and then realized the salmon looked off. I guess I was too hungry to notice it when I started eating. My immediate thought was I'm going to get food poisoning. Sure enough, a day after, my boyfriend and I started experiencing MAJOR stomach problems. My boyfriend ate less than me, so l am experiencing the symptoms a little worse than him. I know there's a risk when eating raw fish, but I have never experience stomach pain like this before. It's been a little over two days now, we are still recovering. I looked at the yelp reviews and I noticed a few people commenting about how the place seemed dirty and could use a health inspection. I haven't been inside, but I can agree with this just from the experience alone. EDIT: So I did some more digging and found out that this place has a history of customers getting food poisoning from here. Maybe they're not storing the fish at the right temperature.
