My wife and I were in the process of purchasing a home and were in need of a Home Inspector as we moved toward our closing date. We were fortunate to have found and used Robert Kaufman of Point Guard. Bob has a very professional, yet down-to-earth way about him. He inspected our new home for about two hours one morning and then spent another hour going over all the details with me on-site. He took me through all aspects of his inspection and really gave me comfort in the home purchase. He then followed up with a detailed yet easy-to-read PDF written report. Along every step of the process with Bob, from the first phone call to introduce himself, through the actual inspection when he and I were on-site, to his phone call informing me the final PDF report was available for my use, Bob was a pleasure to work with. I found him very trustworthy, informative, unbiased and independent, and skilled. I recommend him highly to anyone in need of his services. Finally, I found his attention to detail exemplary. I was very impressed with all aspects of the services and was most pleased that he took pride in his work, which translated into outstanding service, professionalism, and a thorough home inspection for us, his customers. We used Robert and Point Guard Inspection Services for our purchase of a home in Jones, MI in the fall of 2020. He was fantastic! Among the issues he discovered in his very thorough report, was the retaining wall holding our little cabin up on our steep hill needed attention. Two-years ago, we had the wall repaired, but the "new wall" started creeping away from the house at one end, which the builder of the wall did come back to address at no charge. However, another contractor we had on site said the wall was all wrong and needed to be fixed and coincidently, he also did retaining walls. Hmmm. We called Robert. As someone with nothing (that is no $) to gain, he said the wall did need repair and recommended a solution (helical piers) and also several contractors who did this type of work. And then, he would take no compensation for his visit! Businessmen like Robert--experienced, knowledgeable and with an overabundance of integrity--are few and far between. I'm not promising he'll make a free follow-up visit for everyone. What I am saying is I cannot recommend him and Point Guard Inspection Services highly enough. I am in the process of buying my first home. One of the scariest things for me was potentially buying something that would have serious, expensive issues so I knew finding a good inspector would be so important. I looked over multiple companies and reviews before finding Point Guard and all the reviews made it sound like a no brainer to pick them. I'm so thankful I went with them. Robert did an amazing job. He walked me through what to expect with the inspection and when I added an extra service that I forgot was going to be done by the seller he made sure to let me know and remove it. He went through EVERYTHING, even the smaller things and gave instructions on how to fix things, product recommendations if we wanted to tackle it ourselves and included tutorials for things so we had a home manual basically. He included pictures of all the things he pointed out to us and then proceeded to walk us through the house to point out everything again. He explains why things are the way they are and he doesn't make you feel dumb for asking questions. He was a tremendous help and I will be telling EVERYONE I know that Point Guard is the way to go! I had Point Guard come out for a home inspection recently. It was my first time buying a home, and I was nervous. I got on the phone with Robert and was really put at ease. He answered all my questions, with helpful detail, and made me feel comfortable. I was worried this would be complicated, but when the time came for the inspection, he walked me through the report and a couple bigger concerns with the house I was buying. He showed me where to look for emergency shutoffs, offered security recommendations, and even took extra pictures for me to send to a home insurance company. The report itself was greatly detailed, and easy to understand. I had a really wonderful experience with Point Guard Inspection, and I would choose them again in a heartbeat. In all my decades of purchasing and selling properties, No One, has ever done even nearly as thorough of an inspection as Robert Kaufman. Also, he is a wealth of knowledge and information on suggestions for preventative maintenance and shares it all with you upon going over his report with you. Even going as far as sharing with you the proper materials and products to use for your preventative maintenance. He also goes over all the maintenance and proper operations of all the mechanicals as well. I a day and age where customer service is almost an endangered species, Robert Kaufman is at the top of the food chain. Robert did an amazing job with the inspection on the property we are buying. I have never seen such a level of detail and thoroughness and I am very persnickety! I am quite sure he caught things no one else would have found. I was particularly impressed at his perspective going forward -- he gave us a game plan for how to keep our house in excellent shape as the years go on. It's my experience that people in his field stick to the here and now and don't give the kind of guidance Robert did on how to maintain our home. Robert Kaufman is an excellent inspector! He's very detailed and organized, and he spends a lot of time making sure his clients fully understand their inspection reports. He inspected the first house on which we submitted an offer, and because of his thoroughness, we avoided purchasing what turned out to be a "money pit". I have had many inspections done over the years and Robert is hands down the best! He is extremely thorough and detailed in his work. His report was easy to follow/understand and contained numerous photos to support the comments in the inspection. We needed to get the inspection done quickly and he went above and beyond to get it scheduled and turn around the inspection notes.
