That was the impression I received. I stayed at one of the apartments for a month. It was a very convenient location for the retreat I was at. The cupboards had ample space, the room was spacious and very Tuscan, and it had a cute balcony whose doors I liked to leave wide open for the beautiful, cool breeze wafting in and to air out the room which was shuttered in until I came by. There was a laundry room too, where one could use the laundry machines and bought the tokens at the reception counter. A restaurant and cafe. I heard the pizza was very good, but unfortunately never got the opportunity to try it. And the sunset and sunrises were stupendous, overlooking The Valley. Even though there was a constant sound of blasting from the mines nearby mining for marble and some kind of stones, once we got used to those, it was a very peaceful, quiet and tranquil village where one could come to write your memoirs and spend a relaxing summer!

The apartment was also very hot in August and a better fan or air-con would have been appreciated. The guy at reception was nice enough but pretty useless, when my husband asked him 'so what is there to do with kids in the area?' He said 'er nothing' which wasn't true - luckily Google was a bit more helpful. The setting is lovely though and the buildings very authentic and characterful and gorgeous pool are so nice it made up for the negatives! My kids loved walking back from the restaurant in the village at dusk spotting bats and glow worms!

Finding it, is tricky use the longitude and latitude to make it easier and allow a lot of daylight to get lost. That's even worth it because of the amazing views! Everything from the first person we met to our room, to the food, pool, views, staff, the grounds, parking etc was perfect. We rolled in after being lost for a bit, checked in, and a nice young man helped with our bags to the room - we had the room over the restaurant with the San Gimignano and vineyard view. The room was spacious and clean. The fridge had times for purchase but it was large enough we could put in some of our own water or food - not huge though - I guess thats the only flaw? ha ha a wee more space in there for personal items. We were starving and they let us order some bites off the menu we got sort of an antipasti plate, cheese, bread and bruschetta..delish and reasonably priced. the setting for dining is outstanding, the view of the sunset, the pool, the grounds is just stunning. The pool is crystal blue. There were some children there but I think only for 1 of the days we were there. I would venture to say this is more on the adult side, but certianly kid friendly. I jsut dont see kids enjoying it as much as adults looking for a getaway, romance and relaxation. We had a car and being from the states we thought it was nicely located too, an hour or 2 and you were everywhere! Pisa, Florence, Genoa... we trotted around and took trips all over. It was indeed the perfect Tuscany honeymoon spot. They have their own vineyard and olive oil too ! It's not a cheap place to stay, but worth every penny. I'll finish up with my queer-o-meter!!! we had NO issues in Italy at all on our honeymoon and this place was perfect. They make their own wines and olive oil which are outstanding. They only have a few rooms available so make sure to book ahead. We were greeted by Anna the property manager who was very helpful with getting us settled into our room. The room was very clean and felt like a 5-star hotel with excellent furnishings, a modern bathroom, TV, and free WiFi. Il Castagno has a restaurant on the property which served outstanding dinners with some of the ingredients coming from their farm. They served the best steak I had in all of Italy. I highly recommend visiting Il Castagno for a peaceful and relaxing experience in Tuscany. We'll definitely stay there again.

In the afternoon, tea and biscotti are offered. Elisa goes out of her way to help us in any way she can. We're here during a train strike and she did the research to ensure that we would be able to easily get on to our next destination without difficulty.
