Here's my story: Mom temporarily moved in with me (I love it and adore her). She had some stolen checks that were written on her old account before she moved in with me. We had to file an affidavit letting Telecheck know this so she would not be obligated to pay. They were checks that were a considerable amount of money on her fixed income. We went to PNC Bank, my bank, to get a notary. They said they could not notarize it because she was not an account holder. That's all they said. The bank teller called the Manager. Who was in the other room on the phone. Apparently, she said the same. Then something about "for security reasons." What? Security from who? for what? That doesn't make sense. Anyway, she is 82, new to the community and needs help with fraud and the bank just cared about an account holder. They didn't even ask her if she wanted to open an account! I was VERY frustrated as well as embarrassed, to the point that I may close my account with them! The manager who knew I appreared upset came out after I was told and was leaving mumbling. She told me "not to take it personal." Wow, that's not the customer service I have been taught to provide!
Anyway, the next day I called the public library for Loudoun County. They informed me that BB&T Bank has a notary and there is NO CHARGE. Now, to just backtrack, I don't care if PNC would have charged me. I would have gladly paid. However, they flat out refused. So, mom and I went to the local BB&T. We walked in and were immediately greeted. We told him we were seeking a notary. The customer rep said he would be with us in a second. Not 10 seconds later he courteously escorted us to his desk. Without question! Question of account holder, money, etc. He looked over the affidavit, checked her id, had her sign and we were out the door in less than 60 seconds. It was AMAZING!!! It was relief not only for me but for my mom. Poor thing. I hope that "manager" doesn't have a hard time when she has to help take care of her mother! THANK YOU BB&T! I informed Loudoun Co Public Library how PNC handled the situation. Now, I let all of you know. PNC may need to take lessons from you BB&T!!! It's about COMMUNITY, CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
