The station isn't super clean but the seats are usually clean. The station isn't too far from the city centre so it's a good way to spend a day in Cork. It's supposed to have free WiFi but it wasn't working today, not sure if that's a regular occurrence or not. There is a shop and a cafe, both are a little expensive which is to be expected at a train station.

It was given a new waiting and ticket room a few years back, with nice toilets too. The setting was was somewhat marred by the modern footbridge that was also added, which includes an elevator. So very much needed, but has taken away from the station a bit. There are no shops or cafes in the station, but there is the pub just outside the station, aptly called The Signal Box. I assume its still going. It was a handy place to pass the time if your connecting train was late.

There is no ticket machine. Just a platform and a bench, which is covered. You can buy your ticket on the train from the nice conductor man. I really like this station for a few reasons, which are seasonal to be fair: In the summer there is usually some sort of bird taking up roost here. Mainly swallows, but I have see starlings with a brood in under the eaves one year. Waiting for your lift or for the train on a warm summers evening, listening to the surrounding noises such as a dog barking in the distance, birds singing or black bird warnings, the occasion car or tractor going over the bridge nearby. Checking out the connections at Connolly Station, the next train was heading to this station, which a quick check on Google maps had it coming up as a small Irish seaside town. So off we jumped on the train and approximately an hour later, winding it's way along the coast, the train deposited us off at this quaint little railway station which was also the terminus. The station is only two platforms, and if you look down on its surface, you can clearly spot how it was extended. Right outside the station is the bus connection to one side and the other side is a beautiful beach. It's a pretty little spot, the railway station does its job and hence no complaints. We got off the ship and went to the train station. There were two lines to buy tickets. One with an automatic machine and one that was also an information center. The information line was 3 times as long but we waited in that line to be able to ask what station to get off the train to take the bus to the castle. When we got to the front of the line and asked the man at the desk, he refused to help us and said he didn't have time to answer questions. I sarcastically said, whatever, I guess I'll figure it out myself. He screamed at me, pointing his finger at me and hitting it against the window, saying "don't whatever me" and kicked my wife and I out of the line refusing to sell us tickets. We then waited in the other line and purchased tickets from the automated machine. By the time we got to the front of that line we missed our train. Everyone else that worked at the station was very pleasant and helpful after I explained the situation to them. They agreed that "he was just an asshole". I don't understand what his problem was. I don't recommend visiting this train station unless you know where you are going and don't need help from anyone especially the information desk. I can't understand why he was in charge of the information desk and refused to give information. I later was informed that the stop I needed was the last stop. That was all he had to say. He argued with me for 5 minutes but didn't have time to say to take the train until the final stop. Very strange.

This diminutive station is well kept and serves its purpose well. It is on the western edge of city…read morecentre and is within easy walking distance of all of the points of interest in town. The 19th-Century brick building is attractive. The portion of the facility used for train travel is smaller than it once was as Cobh has lost some of its importance as a transportation centre over time. The town used to be a major port for emigration and was, thus, much busier. But as seafaring transportation activity declined, the need for a large train station diminished as well. The nicely-presented Cobh Heritage Centre now occupies the remainder of the old station building. The convenience of the location is accentuated by the fact that the Titanic Experience is a quick couple-of-minute walk down the street and city centre is only another minute or two further. The train service from Cork is quick and easy and the station is a great point of entry. There are not many services in the station and the waiting area is small. But it is facile to navigate and easy to use.
