Plucky Puppy has been a lifesaver for me and my partner. Recently, we spontaneously adopted two labradoodle sisters from the same litter. After the fact, we got warned to spend a lot of time socializing them and training them separately if we didn't want them to develop a littermate syndrome. So, I loaded up on puppy socials, booking every social I could get my hands on at Wonder Puppy and Plucky Puppy. I booked over 35 socials for both of them to attend separately between the ages of 8 and 20 weeks. We also signed up for Plucky Puppy's Kinderpuppy class, and have hired the owner Katrin to board and train each puppy separately in her house one day a week per puppy for a couple of months. This review is for all 3 services we use: 1) Puppy Socials, 2) Private Training with Katrin and 3) Kinderpuppy School. I would rate Puppy Socials as 10/10, the private training with Katrin as 10/10 and the School as 8/10. Below is a breakdown of each service. Puppy Socials (10/10): I like them better than the other socials we go to because they involve the owners and teach the owners how to recognize and attune to the behavior and needs of their dog and understand the body language of all dogs involved in the activity. I really like the clear instructions for the owners and the constant narration the trainers are doing with the dogs as the dogs play. Other companies' socials have the owners step outside and look through a window, which is far less engaged and informative. Private Training with Katrin (10/10): I see a huge difference in each dog at the end of their training day with Katrin. They've learned so much we wouldn't have been able to teach them because 1) we're first time puppy owners and 2) we have two of them, which makes it extra challenging to train each if you don't know what they're doing. Katrin also spent time training our family with the two dogs present and working on separating the dogs into different room crates (we have them in separate crates but same room at home for the time being - working towards separating their crates into different rooms). Honestly, if our dogs keep up the trend of being good, sweet and trained dogs, it will all be because of Katrin. She's a life-saver. We are constantly getting compliments on how good our dogs are. Katrin also sends us multiple videos of each day's training and I love how she spends time socializing the dogs to different environments. Her kids love being part of the dog training, so we're getting a whole family involved in their care, which is amazing! Kinderpuppy School (8/10): Great training for dog parents and understanding how to communicate with your puppy and really attune to their needs, body language and emotions. Very hands on and interactive. The only reason I dinged the score a bit is that in the first few classes our school trainer waits for the late comers to arrive before starting class, which wastes valuable puppy attention span and fills up their belly with treats while they wait. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and attentive and I've already given them the feedback about starting on time and not waiting for people who are late, so I am hopeful this issue will be fixed going forward. read more

Katrin is helping our very adorable, yet manners challenged, yellow lab puppy meet her potential! I was totally impressed by Katrin from the moment she called me back. She was timely, professional and spent plenty of time discussing our needs on the phone. Our first meeting was amazing. First of all, I appreciated her immediate, positive interaction with our puppy, Gracie. Gracie is really my 14 year old daughter's dog, and Katrin did a great job of making sure my daughter was involved in the training and understood what she had to do to make sure Gracie was "getting" the right message. We took our doodle to the Kinderpuppy class. I'd give the trainer 5 stars for her knowledge and great tips. The few minutes I spent after classes getting advice were very helpful! However, I will say that the class wasn't very helpful for our pup -- she is more play-oriented than food-oriented, so the combination of small space plus not much time to play with other dogs didn't go very well. We had to feed her so many rich treats to keep her distracted that she was sick the next day. However, I could tell that other dogs were having a good experience, so it might have been that the setting wasn't great for our dog. read more

We have used Plucky Puppy for class, consultation, and dog walking. We went to Katrin's Kinderpuppy 2 class with our pup, Ruby. It was a great class and we still use the methods that we learned. Katrin is a good trainer; calm and communicative and good with the people as well. I like that she takes the time to observe your dog and cater training to their personality, not just a one size fits all approach. She has a way of telling you that you might be doing something wrong with your dog without you realizing that she is doing that. She is a good people trainer. Even if you have trained dogs yourself in the past you will definitely benefit from learning these methods. It will save you and your dog time and work while keeping your relationship with your dog healthy. Once Ruby got a bit older and started having some behaviors that we didn't know how to handle we asked Katrin to do consultations and it was an investment that paid off. Katrin is amazing and my dog and I had a great experience with her! I have only gone to dog training classes in the past and it was really helpful to have the one-on-one with her at home. My dog is great, but he's a 1.5 year old rescue who has some issues with barking and aggression at the dog park. He also has really poor manners since it's been hard to figure out what to concentrate on with him in the limited training time that I have. Katrin was positive and hopeful about my dog. She was able to assess the situation in my home and gave me some practical tools to start using right away. She also came up with some fun games for my young kids to play with him. UPDATE 7/20: we had to go to the emergency vet last night because our puppy kept having explosive diarrhea. The vet told me the kibble the trainer gave our puppy most definitely irritated her bowels. So thanks guys, I'll send ya my vet bill I wasn't going to leave a review, but I'm livid now. We had a trainer come out to help us with our new puppy and her separation anxiety. The trainer was a tad bit rough on the edges in terms of personality and talked over me a lot, but I let that go. And it really bothered me she kept leaving my puppy's gate open to her gated area--she did that 3 times. We have the gate there because we have cats and they aren't used to her yet. And then she kept shamelessly plugging their social classes and WonderPuppy and etc etc to me. And even told me to follow them on Instagram when she left. But then when we were training, I saw she had her own kibble she brought. She didn't even ask me if the puppy was allergic to anything or if I'd prefer to use my own kibble. I had informed the trainer my puppy was just getting over a bout of explosive diarrhea (she had recovered that morning and gotten back to solid) and asked if the kibble was a good idea (it was originally a diet change that caused it) and she hesitated but then said "oh it might make her poop a little softer". Well no, it didn't just make it soft. She has been suffering from diarrhea since the visit and just now had explosive diarrhea all over my kitchen floor, and I've changed absolutely nothing else about her diet. I'm mad because this is my poor baby who is going through this, who now I have to see totally lethargic all over again like the first time she went through this. I can not recommend this business for the sake of my puppy, or at least I can't recommend this trainer in particular that we were assigned. read more

Back in early September, as a brand new, first time puppy owner, I was pretty clueless on what to do with my cute little fuzzball in the way of training. I called around and was referred to several trainers who would do in-home training, and the one I chose was Katrin at Plucky Puppy. Due to my unpredictable work schedule, the usual 6 week puppy school was not an option for me. On our initial phone call, Katrin took a lot of time to thoroughly answer all of my puppy related questions, and explained the basis of her training methods and some of her background in working with dogs. Her knowledge and experience with dogs is very vast. She really made me feel very comfortable, and she made several suggestions as to how we could successfully work around my work hours. She was very flexible, and even offered to get together on a Saturday if needed, which she hadn't been doing prior to that. Katrin did an initial evaluation with Pepper (the puppy), myself and my boyfriend. Pepper took to her immediately, and my boyfriend and I were very comfortable with her manner and how well she explained everything. She took copious notes on her laptop, which she shared with us after the in the form of organized training notes. She provided these after each training session to help recount the many things we worked on and how to continue working on them until the next visit. It was an invaluable tool, and I still refer to these notes regularly as I continue to work with my puppy. During our 1 hour sessions, Katrin taught me how to think the way my dog thinks in order to be successful at training. It's not about what I want the dog to do, it's how to get the dog to want to do what I want it to do. Watching her with my puppy was amazing. She has such a natural way of teaching dogs and their owners to respond using a positive method. She made training look so effortless compared to my own clumsy attempts when she was not there. Hi Katrin! I wanted to follow up on our recent experience with Plucky Puppy and give huge kudos to Cindy for her amazing help with our dog Baka last week. We infrequently (and always reluctantly) must leave Baka when we head out of town, but we have struggled to find the right fit for our anxious and reactive pittie. After she failed the stress test at our most recent overnight boarding evaluation, we turned desperately to Plucky Puppy as an in-home pet sitting option for our trip the following week. Cindy and Baka hit it off immediately when they met, and we trusted her instincts and abilities with our, frankly, poorly trained and crazy dog! Then we threw in the wrench of a little injury! She was hobbling when Cindy arrived at our house the first night, and got progressively worse while we were gone. Cindy was amazing about keeping us posted on her progress and asking us for our opinion on how to handle certain challenges her injury presented (like sleeping on our tall bed). And despite the limp, the photos Cindy sent showed a calm and happy girl enjoying herself with modified playtime! My puppy and I have attended various puppy socials put on by Plucky Puppy, and they've been really great. At each of them they have two or three staff members who are very knowledgeable and completely on top of it at all times. When I first met Katrin, she was playing with her own dogs in the park. She noticed that our newly adopted Charlotte was nervous, and gave me some wonderful advice on acclimating her to other dogs. Hiring a pet sitter is very, very expensive, and the client has a right to expect a lot. With Plucky Puppy you might get a lot, but you might get not-so-much. The problem with small businesses like this is quality control. Katrine hires some pet sitters who are conscientious, but she apparently has some who are flaky and not so great. Our first experience with Plucky Puppy was very good, but the second time around there were definite issues. I won't delve into the details, but the bottom line was that PP was not sensitive to our legitimate concerns and took a defiant attitude when we complained. I have talked to other trainers regarding her method and they are appalled! My dogs attitude and behavior became WORSE after her training...please if you have an aggressive or alpha dog, you owe it to your dog to go to a trainer that will teach you the proper tools to show who's boss! She thinks it's bad to squirt your dog with water when they're naughty....ITS WATER!!!! Dogs are not humans, they are pack animals and needed to be treated like dogs not people!!! The smart, sweet pup I adopted in April had some fear based challenges and hadn't been socialized before. He was afraid to leave the house, go on walks, get into the car, etc. I took him to Plucky Puppy socials led by Angela, Kinderpuppy led by Lorena, and private training sessions with Lorena and in a matter of just a few weeks to a couple months he was playing games, practicing stillness, enjoying his walks, hopping into the car, and playing with other dogs. I'm delighted to recommend Katrin Greim of Plucky Puppy (pluckypuppy.com). We took her Kinder Puppy I class and then, because we were so pleased, we also took her Kinder Puppy 2 class. Even tho we are experienced dog owners and even tho my husband has put several obedience titles on previous dogs, we both learned useful tips from Katrin's classes. She is organized with lesson plans for each session, and she gives handouts with summary notes and "homework" for the puppies and you to review before next class. She is good at breaking down the behaviors into manageable chunks to train in stages. She is also very good at adapting the chunks to individual learning styles and needs of both the handler and the puppy. I think this skill is one of her most outstanding knowledge areas. In addition, she has good situational awareness during class. This ability makes her great at intervening right before an interaction between puppies might become dangerous. She is also creative in using the facilities features, such as x-pens and fences, to separate dogs (by size or by temperment) to allow interactions between puppies to remain safe and fun. She coaches us to keep the training fun for the pups and to use our "happy voice" when giving commands. She also reminds us to give the rewards instantly and happily to lock in the behavior. There is no yelling, screeching, or sterness in the class. She keeps a good balance between keeping handlers attentive and learning the exercises yet allowing us all to enjoy the antics of the pups. I was at my wit's end trying to get my miniature schnauzer puppy to walk nicely on the leash when I called Katrin in the spring to set up a private lesson. She came to my home and after familiarizing herself with my dog (who loved her) and our situation, went for a walk in our neighborhood with us. In a total of two hours she gave me all the tools I needed to work successfully, kindly and gently with my puppy, who now walks beautifully and attentively on the leash and is also over her leash reactivity, thanks to Katrin's advice. Plucky Puppy has been walking our dog, now 3.5 years old, for the past 3 years. They have been incredibly reliable and professional. Linnea has boarded and walked our dog on a daily basis and she is fantastic. Our dog, normally very calm, is always very happy to see her and gets excited when we drive by her house.
