We had a great appointment today, and Jerry was the best! He was friendly and listened to our concerns. The best patient care as always!

Please beware of bringing your children here. This happened last year, but i hadn't left a review at the time. I had been bringing my kids here for quite some time. The previous dentist, Dr. Dan was always amazing with my kids. Well, it seems he no longer works there so we saw Dr. Tran instead. My kids, who never have had any cavity issues, suddenly had a a few??? Mind you, i brought one of my sons a couple of months before this appt to check on some back tooth discoloration which Dr. Dan confirmed to be just a side effect of an iron vitamin he was taking and assured me he had no cavities. But i trusted her. I brought in my kids for fillings with laughing gas. It did not go well at all. First, we were double booked, so we were kept waiting for quite a while. Then i was given paperwork to sign- i looked through it and saw them pre-charge me a behavioral fee?? My kids have never had any behavior issues at the dentist (up until this appt, anyway) and was totally unreasonable to see that on there. I told the front desk and she took it off. But if i just quickly signed it without reading, like I'm sure many busy mothers do, they would have taken money out of my pocket for a problem that never even happened. Then when it was time for the fillings, the techs and Dr did nothing to inform my kids of what they were doing and why, and honestly were quite rude to them. I was shocked. Isn't this supposed to be a children's practice? Shouldn't that come with care, patience, and some guidance for the small kids who have never had a filling before? It was safe to say at this point that my kids were scared and didn't understand why the laughing gas was making them feel the way they felt. I tried to explain to them and calm them since the staff wasn't doing a single thing about it, but they were placed in separate rooms to have their appt at the same exact time (wasn't supposed to happen this way, but due to the double booking, it did), and going back and forth to be with each one to calm them was impossible. The dentist tried for maybe a minute or two on each one to start the fillings and gave up on both of them and said you need to come again, and if it doesn't go well again next time then you still need to pay for the appts in full. I was shocked at how little care and attention she gave my kids. No kindness, no understanding. I don't think she ever even spoke to them directly. Just rude and seemed like a money grab. We made new appts and then left. But then my intuition was screaming that something is off. I took my kids to a different pediatric dentist and guess what? Only one small cavity for my oldest son. No cavities for my younger one. We went from 5 cavities at the other practice, to one small one. Dr. Tran was dishonest with us and it was so disappointing. They were going to put my kids through totally unnecessary dental work. I could not believe someone would do that to small children. We had the cavity filled at the new practice by the way, and not a single tear or complaint from my son because the staff there were patient, understanding, and actually spoke to him about what they were doing. I will be going there from now on and will never be returning to Pleasant Pediatric Dentistry. read more

Today was my first time in this office and all I can say is I had a good experience today with both my boys. All the staff were beyond friendly. Shout out to Breanna for being awesome with my boys who don't do good in a dentist office . read more

If you haven't seen the awful reviews for this place on north Peoria mom's Facebook... go look!! The dentist repeatedly told me my son needed a bunch of cavities filled. I started to get suspicious that she was pushing laser and laughing gas with all these cavities and got a second opinion. He has NO cavities!! Came here because my son is autistic and they have puppies.. doesn't matter!! I cannot believe the blatant lies about my son having cavities. The dentist isn't nice, no good bedside manner. Never again. read more

Dr. Tran and Bree were fantastic! My daughter felt relaxed and was in and out in no time. Thank you all so much!

I brought my 8 year old daughter here who has autism for her first dental visit and the staff exceeded my expectations. The assistant, Branden, was very patient with my daughter and when he was asking her questions, he worded them in ways that was easier for her to understand. The drive to this office is worth it to me! I'd recommend them to anyone! read more

This place told me my son had EIGHT CAVITIES.. I took him for a second opinion.. he had NONE. After looking on Facebook I realized this is the norm for this place. What a scam. Avoid at all costs! read more

Such a wonderful experience for mom and baby! Each staff member took such great care of my daughter and were very patient and reassuring of her fears. Mounted TVs looping bluey are a brilliant idea! She loved her therapy dog who helped put her even more at ease. Our Dental Hygenist Baylee was so kind and helpful, and Dr. Tran was amazing! Arlene at the front desk scheduled our appointment over the phone and checked us out when we were done and I was so impressed! The little one won't stop telling everyone she sees about her trip to the dentist and we are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you for all you do!! read more

We started coming here before Dr. Tran started, and were already pleased with the facility and staff. Now that she has arrived they've gone from good to impressive. I don't dread making appointments and trying to convince my kids to be ok with going to the dentist. My kids love this place and actually get excited when it's their turn for an appointment. Everything is catered to my kids experience, which I LOVE. Not to mention the professionalism among the staff... their synergy makes the whole experience painless. read more

We love Dr. Whelan! We had been with him for over 11 years and couldn't see ourselves taking our kids anywhere else. He was always so kind and knowledgeable, very patient with kids, and just an awesome dentist. We are sad he recently retired, and now someone else took over his office. Not sure if we will stay, but we will truly miss him. We wish him a great retirement! read more

I have brought all of my children here and the treatment they have received throughout the years is paramount. It is easy to get appointments and the staff is super friendly and patient with my little ones. My kids love the dogs and I love that the dentists are really informative and make my kids feel safe. read more

I got a written referral specifically to this place from our family dentist who recommended a pediatric dentist. I called and explained that my child has an abscess and an infection and he needs two baby teeth pulled per our regular dentist (again who recommended this pediatric office), and I was told the first available appointment is ONE MONTH out!!! It is NOT an option to wait that long!! I think they should keep open some appointments for emergencies for the kiddos instead of turning them away, which gives the feeling that they don't care about a kid with an emergency!! I found a caring and amazing pediatric dentist nearby who, upon hearing the condition of my kid, scheduled him for the very next morning at 8:30 a.m. It was a very awesome experience, even for my kid who had two teeth pulled! My kid said, "I want him to be my dentist for life." Yes indeed, son! read more

Our 2.5 year old is very active and leery of anyone touching his mouth. He refused to sit in the exam chair and immediately threw himself on the floor at the start of his appointment. A tantrum was about to happen as he and I had different ideas about how this appointment was going to go. Instead, Jaimie (one of the hygienists) broke the ice by letting our son touch some of the dental tools and she patiently completed his entire cleaning with him standing in front of her. He did so well with her and I was relieved I didn't have to hold him down screaming. Dr. Dan was also amazing. He really listened to my concerns and was not pushy with his recommendations. He was also great with our son who did not cry through his exam - a miracle really! Unfortunately, our current dental insurance does not work with this dental office but I loved our experience so much, I plan to sign up for a different dental plan come open enrollment just so we can take our son back here. read more

Wish I could give them no stars. Practice has been sold and I was given one business day notice to reschedule my appointments for my children because their appointments that were confirmed a week are now outside their new business hours. My insurance terminates the week after the confirmed appointments and they can't reschedule for a time before my insurance terminates. Good luck getting in at a different pediatric dentist in under two weeks! read more

We have been bringing our daughters here for about 6 years. Our experience has always been positive. The waiting area is kid friendly. The front office staff is very kind and helpful. We never have to wait long. Everyone working in the back is kind and friendly. read more

This is the only office I've taken my kids to (6 years now) and love it. Never have to wait, get to sit right with my 2 kid while they do them at the same time while watching cartoons. This place is terrible. Would leave zero stars if I could. The receptionist is rude, they have zero idea what they're talking about. she gave me the wrong insurance information. they can never fit you in the schedule. I had to wait an hour to be seen once. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME read more

Dr Whelan and all the staff in this office are amazing. They are super friendly and take their time making kids comfortable. Plus incredibly knowledgeable. We never have to wait more than a few minutes. Very very happy with this office! read more

Dr. Whelan and his entire staff (from the front desk to the scheduling) were SO helpful and acknowledging. Amy (the dental assistant) thoroughly explained every part of my son's upcoming procedure. They assured us he would be properly taken care of! If you are looking for pediatric dentistry, this is the place! We drove all the way from Avondale. Worth the trip! read more

The staff did an excellent job making my two year old's first dental appointment comfortable and a success! Jamie the hygienist was so caring and did a great job from beginning to end with my son! Dr. Whelan was phenomenal in his patient attention and explaining and listening to concerns and questions! I picked this office out of a group of covered providers and I am so glad I made the right choice! read more

We've been going to Pleasant Pediatric for years! They are honest, courteous, great with children, and very timely (never a long enough wait for my kids to finish their video game or watching the show on tv - LOL) I highly recommend this office! If you have multiple kids, schedule them at the same time and they'll put up to 3 in the same room - it's a great feature and SO efficient!!! read more

First visit for my little guy was great. Staff were all very attentive and provided a stress-free experience. Quick paperwork to establish my son as a patient (they took info over the phone prior and actually transferred it to his file instead of having me fill it out again). read more

Under new management; Dr. Whelan has retired and Dr. Petruzzi has returned to his primary practice. Staff all new as well. No concept of customer service at the front desk. I checked in 10 minutes early, and 30 minutes later I had heard nothing from anyone. I checked at the desk and was informed they were running behind and someone would be with me shortly. Apparently, letting me know that upon check-in was not important. Then, as the cleaning and exam revealed a small cavity, the proposed treatment was one that was known to be not covered by insurance, requiring full out-of-pocket payment. Rather than work with the patient to find cost-effective solutions, this new business is intent on raking in as much out-of-pocket cash from patients as possible. STAY AWAY!!! read more

This review is for the office manager Kendall. My family has issues with her for several years and continued to take her unprofessional, disrespectful and incapable attitude because we love Dr. Whelan and the other staff. However we will no longer be going there until someone else has her position. I have to give one star because no one should be put at risk with her working there. My husband and I have 4 kids together. I under and having more then one patient in the same household and different insurances can be frustrating and difficult. I still think that the office should be capable of handling more then one patient though. My biggest issue is Kendall mixing my daughters chart information up with another patient. My daughter has an autoimmune disease and is on several medications. Mixing her information up could at worse, kill her. This also caused for a lot of confusion with billing. The biggest issue with billing is the legal issue. My daughters birth father is supposed to pay 75% of her bill. He has never paid a bill before. She had claimed multiple times that he had paid a portion of her bill. That he called in and paid. I explained to her the importance of being 100% sure because this is all documentation that will and has gone before a judge. She said she was sure. Once she figured out that she had made a mistake and mixed up one child's information with my daughters that it was the other girls father who had paid. To be clear.... my daughters chart had her birthday, name, some information that was hers and someone else's information and another child's picture!! To me this is a huge mistake. I know this because she had me come around the desk and show her which information was my daughters. There have multiple phone calls where Kendall has been unprofessional and rude. Telling me that it's very confusing with all of these kids and all the different insurance. Cutting me off when I'm talking. Being short and snotty on the phone. My husband has witnessed her talking to me like this. Once was while we were on our way into an appointment for me to find out of I had breast cancer. I explained that I would call her back. She was irritated with me. I told her why and she seemed to not believe me. I got a call from my ex husband regarding a bill. I called to ask about the bill. Kendall cut me off and was very rude. She explained that it wasn't a bill it was from insurance. That was fine for her to explain it to me but how she treated me was upsetting. She was on speaker since I was driving. My 15 year old step daughter was in the car with me. She heard the whole conversation. When I got off the phone she asked why the lady was rude and if she didn't like me. She didn't know about previous experiences with her. She didn't know why she stopped going that office. That reason is because of Kendall and how she communicated with my step daughters mom. She refused to take her there after several mistakes were made and the disrespect. I decided to call Kendall back and finally address why she's been rude, unprofessional and hard to deal with. I was at not point during any of our conversations yelling or mad. I ask questions. When I called her back I asked her if she had a problem with me because of how she treats me. This was her response: "you know what Andria, I have been nothing but professional. I was just trying to calm you down. You were yelling. I haven't had an issue with you in two years." I told her I was not yelling I simply asked about what I was told was a bill. I explained that even through the HUGE mistakes that she made I still come to the office because I love everyone else there. Instead of her apologizing for making me feel this way, she immediately was defensive when I asked about an issue with me. I let her know that my step daughter was in the car with me and asked me why she was rude to me which is why I realized it's bad enough that several others have said something. She said "your step daughter doesn't know me". I called my husband after the encounter because I was shocked. He said if she showed exactly how she felt about me when she reacted that way. If she was professional and didn't have any issues she would have said "I am so sorry I made you feel that way." Her responses are shocking and unacceptable. I used to work in the healthcare field. This is 100% not how you should treat patients. I'm surprised that she has worked there this long. I have referred several people to this office. I have seen several people un refer this office because of "the office manager". I left the call asking to leave a message for Dr. Whelan. She said she would but I don't have much faith that she will. I also have several recordings proving this. I started to record after the "10" issue with her. read more

We love Dr. Whalen and his staff. My children actually love going to the dentist and Dr Whalen is always so great at explaining everything he is doing. This whole office has been great, my son is 2 but they are patient and kind. And I can tell there are some mothers in that office just how they work with them. Kendall was especially kind to get my son in so quickly, understanding that I was worried but it wasn't really an emergency. But she got me in right away. The dentist, Dr. Whelan did some beautiful work on my sons teeth today! The front desk staff is also wonderful and you can tell the morale is amazing amongst the staff members, which always makes a difference to me! They are 50 mins away from me but the piece of mind is just worth it for me! Happy I found them for my kids! read more

So Grateful for this practice! I have a special needs daughter who hasn't been to the dentist since we moved to the area a couple years ago and I am so glad I found Pleasant Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Whalen and his staff are so compassionate, caring, and patient while being professionals. They were so supportive of me as a parent filled with so much anxiety about my daughter's care and her tendency to fight having her teeth examined and cleaned. Thank you so much to this wonderful place! The office is nicely decorated with kids toys and pictures of animals. Highly recommend them. read more
