Actually it's just an extension of the Promenade on the east side of the beach. If you'd walk the whole Promenade and this Pasarela (we actually did), it would be roughly 1.5 miles / 2.3km for one way. While the Promenade is lined with restaurants, this Pasarela has the beach on one side and a Golf course on the other side. Hence the protecting web on one side and on top. Besides that nothing obstructs the nice views along the beach. It's a nice little walk and it seem a popular thing to do, while still not too busy. Surely less than the typical Promenade. Once arrived on the eastern end, you could continue on several hiking paths. Including the one going up to the top of the hill to the historical landmark of Mollari - Malla Harriko mineral kargaleku zaharra. But it you want to keep it easy, flat and stroller/wheelchair accessible, then just the Promenade and Pasarela will do fine. We enjoyed our little walk here.

The water was a bit cold and the weather was kind of cool while I was visiting, so many of the surfers had wet suits. There are stations for lifeguards and first aid that are open based on the season and a set schedule. Many restaurants, cafes and shops are located right across the beach.

And it's a really nice place to just chill and watch surfers surf! There are designated areas when people can go in the water and play. The lifeguards try and ensure that people aren't getting too close to the high waves and surfers. In terms of the surf, the waves are pretty decent. You'll usually come across knee high to waist high waves (at least that's what is was when I was there). This is a great place for beginner/intermediate surfers to improve their skill level! Beware though, the waves come in very quickly, one after the other. This made me a little exhausted because every time I surfed a wave, it would take me a while to get back to the "safe spot" or the break (I am not the strongest swimmer or most skilled surfer). You'll see many of the more skilled surfers drop out of a wave to avoid coming to close to the shore, if this makes sense. For the 1st timers, if you stay near the left side of the beach, the waves are ankle to knee high! Great place to learn, you'll see all the surf schools out here too!

And especially after Game Of Thrones the popularity for sure really took off. There is no parking here, your best bet is to park by the "Txomin Agirre Kalea" street by the river. Plenty of metered parking. And it's only an easy 10' stroll to this beach. The beach itself is a dark-sand beach. But it's not the beach that makes most people come here. It's the amazing rock formations and cliffs. Some rocks stand out like razors and the cliffs do look like they've been carved. But it's all mother nature and that makes it even more amazing. This is where some famous scenes from Dragonstone (GoT) were filmed. And it's interesting how easy it is to access for the public. And free....and no restrictions (except no pets). On the left side of the beach there are several caves. It's a bit wet on the way, but you can get there with sneakers even. On the right side are the razor-shaped formations and also the impressive cliffs. Be careful where to access, because it's swampy and you might bury your feet in it (like me). On the very right are some small stairs, the best way to access this area. It's really a great place to stroll along the beach. Great views. And less visitors than you might think. Especially if you walk along the beach on the right, then there are less and less people....the further you go. Impressive place. One of the best we've visited on this Road Trip.

And really just steps away from this nice walking trail. Starting in the woods, we've walked east. Soon the woodland opened up and there were nice views of the surrounding countryside, hills and mountains. The trail is flat and paved. So really suitable for all. And completely traffic free. Except for the owners of the handful of houses close-by. The trail follows more or less the Urola river, but mostly not by it. It was really a nice walk. The trail goes on for miles and miles if you want to further east or west as well. We just walked to the really impressive Santuario de Loiola. What an amazing sight! On that weekday there were really only two other visitors. A miracle to me that it isn't more popular. There isn't even a fee to go inside. After our visit we've followed the trail back to our car. A few benches are along the way in case you need a rest or a picnic. We really enjoyed our walk here.

Heaven for beach-lovers. If you're not one of them but still enjoy looking at the ocean and the beach, then walking along this Paseo is a great thing to do. The promenade follows most of the beach. It's big, it's wide. Enough space for everybody. Dogs on the promande are allowed - as opposed to the beach. Along the promenade you'll find countless cafés and restaurants. Most offering similar menus. For true spanish culinary experiences I'd recommend the old town though. But to have a drink and watch the world go by it's fine. Some shops, ice cream shops, beach gear rentals and public toilets can be found as well. It's just a nice and relaxing thing to do, strolling up and down the Paseo. To the west you could actually follow the road on a footpath along the ocean until Getaria. Surely something we'll do when back one day.
