Every local has been here at some point, either for the yearly gang show or because you won free tickets in the paper or pub quiz Its a nice theatre and small cinema, great family atmosphere as a lot of people have been coming for years The local amatuers are usually on with the local choirs Though Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is coming in december so they sometimes have bigger acts Its a nice cheap night out if you dont fancy the normal pub crawl around whitly bay read more

Sadly this theatre is currently under refurbishment and is closed but when it opens it will return to be the number 1 entertainment venue in Whitley Bay. Many top acts have visited here over the years, and it has hosted the infamous local Gang shows as well as loads of local shows, giving the children the opportunity to perform on a big stage. They also show the big films, although a few weeks after they have come out in the big multiplexes. Cheap and cheerful admission prices and a well stocked tuck shop. I can't wait to try the theatre when it re-opens after its refurbishment.I just hope it has'nt lost it's charm.The admission costs were always very competitive and they always had a good selection of plays ect coupled with film days.I've missed it since it closed for it's big over-do. read more

Its very nice now theyve done it up. much better range of stuff thats on - been to a couple of comedy shows (jeremy hardy v good) and a dance thing. got bars on both ground & 1st floor & theyll get your intermission drinks ready so theres no queuing at the bar. seats are very nice. find something you like & go see it - you'll likely be back to see more. read more

Love this place, if a had more money I'd go more often, there's always great acts on and something for everyone kids included. The drinks at the bar are a bit pricey but I guess you expect that at theatre. If your new to the world theatres then if you give the Playhouse a go you will not be disappointed and you may even find yourself wanting more. read more

More than 'done up' this theatre has been almost completely rebuilt. It has a great range of one off and weekly (mostly amateur) shows. Very comfortable and accessible. Great for music but mostly tributes rather than top rate new stuff, as it's a bit small for them. read more

Unfortunately (or rather, fortunately) the Whitley Bay Playhouse is currently closed as it is undergoing its LONG awaited refurbishment. When it re-opens I have no doubt that it will be even more popular than before. Located on the outskirts of the popular seaside town it was a hit with visitors and locals alike. It attracted many popular big name acts as well as local theatre groups and gang shows. When not being used for live theatre shows it was also used as a cinema. The admission prices were always very resonable, the staff were always very friendly and the theatre itself was cozy and welcoming. I can't wait for it to reopen. read more
