From Chicago, first time at the zoo. Here are my thoughts:…read more -We spent a couple of hours at the zoo with a one and a half year old and only saw about half the zoo : ) -The zoo is free. There are lots of cool animals. The rides are cheap. The train is definitely worth it! -We went on a Saturday morning, arrived about 10am. There were plenty of people there, but it never felt crowded. -We rode the train first, which was great because you get to quickly see everything, and then you can go back and see what you want, on foot, at your own pace. -If you like zebras, giraffes, monkeys, tigers, gorillas, and hippos, you're going to love this zoo! -There is a public parking place about half a block away. Highly, highly recommended!!

This is a free park and zoo in Merida. We walked there from our AirBnB, and it looked like there…read moreis street parking around the zoo. There is plenty of space to roam and explore. This is a great place for kids, because there are places for kids to play (like playgrounds), snacks and vendors, restrooms, and a train to take you through the park. The train ride was a relaxing ride, and a nice way to see the layout of the park. The train was only 1 MX peso. We enjoyed walking around and seeing the sights. There is plenty of shade, which is good as Merida can be quite hot. The animal exhibits were interesting and well kept. The larger animals definitely needed more space, but the animals seemed well cared for overall.

I had a horrible experience here today. I had a very nice Mexican woman phone for me and discuss my…read morecoming to swim at their facility. The person she spoke with said that I would need to pay 95 pesos for one day and I could swim as long as I wanted , excluding when classes were in session. I went there today and was greeted by some of the office employees, one who addressed me as a "gringo" and this was not done in a complimentary fashion. They walked me to the pool and I was ready for some laps when they told me I could not swim unless I paid for a years membership at the tune of 7,000 pesos. There was one man in the pool swimming and they told me they were very busy. Obviously, this did'nt seem to be the case at the time. They were rude to me, with one exception who was the security guard and he seemed baffled by the interaction as well. I would not recommend this operation to anyone .
