This is our favorite restaurant everytime we come in town from Vegas. My fiance was raised here in Hutch so we're here at least 4 times a year and eat sometimes twice a day at the restaurant. The service here is always consistent and outstanding. Last year we had a death in the family and after the funeral, Playa's staff was able to accommodate a party of 30 last minute without hesitation. I first started going as a child at the location in Great Bend. Loved the food every time and on my birthday as a child they would put a sombrero on my head and sing to me what a fun family place very kind. Now as an adult I go to the location here in Hutchinson same great food. But I will say some of the waiters are assholes. Some though are very kind and make you feel welcome to eat there. So it's hit or miss on the waiters. But the food is normally always great my one complaint is sometimes you can tell it wasn't made fresh to order like stale old rice taste but I've had that at every Mexican restaurant I've been too so I think it's genuinely something every one of the restaurants do. Oh and heads up if you get fried ice cream ask them to not put on the hard sprinkles cause the ice cream makes the sugary sprinkles they use turn into hard jaw breaker like rocks it's so hard. But the ice cream is amazing. My only other thing is you can tell they water down the cheese more sometimes, let me explain sometimes you get very cheesy cheese dip other times you get a cheese dip that tastes sorta like cheese and is the texture of actual water it's upsetting so it's hit or miss. But for the most part the food is great and most of the waiters are kind. I highly recommend the quesadilla or there enchiladas are very delicious I always order them with the seasoned fajitas chicken. Okay so let's be realistic the odds of finding mexico Hispanic food is non-existent in The Midwest let alone in Kansas. But this place sells Mexican American food like a burrito with some beans and rice. It's great if you want some good Mexican food. read more

Hubby stopped here for Lunch on Tuesday and came home RAVING about their 'Tacos Al Carbon'. So this morning, we drove an hour in each direction, so that I could try these AWESOME Tacos! We got there right as they opened and we're immediately seated. We ordered a couple of Margaritas and they brought us a HUGE basket of Tortilla Chips and a small carafe of their Salsa. You could visibly see the Cilantro in it. It was very tasty. We ordered 2 'Tacos Al Carbon' and a order of Carnitas 'To Go' for tonight's dinner. The Server was very polite and extremely efficient. The food came quickly and was exactly what my Husband was craving. The meal came with Rice and Beans and a small amount of Lettuce, Tomatoes & Guacamole. I won't say that their Beans and Rice flavorful, they were just ok -- but the Tacos & the Carnitas were Very Well Seasoned. This is the place I always want to go to eat Mexican food in my hometown. There are a few places here with a similar menu but I like the staff and overall ambience best here. I'm from Dallas and this restaurant was recommended by the front desk at the Holiday Inn. It was a Saturday afternoon and I was very hungry and thirsty. So, I walked in and was seated immediately at a great table. Alex was my waiter and he offered me the margarita special, I ordered the jumbo on the rocks... I was served quickly, and he asked me if I was ready to order; the menu was huge, I asked him about tacos. Alex pointed out a few taco dinners and I picked one. The food was over the top, every bite was absolutely delicious all the way down to the last chip; I couldn't finish all the chips but I tried. All in all, I put down 3 Jumbo margaritas and had a really great experience. Hands down, Alex is a really great server and the food and drink was over the top. read more

I don't like writing negative reviews, but today's experience merited one. I'd like to think some constructive criticism may be a benefit to the entrepreneurs. I decided to give this place a try. In short, I wouldn't recommend this place, at least not at this time. Maybe it's the demographics-the owners don't have to try too hard if the patrons don't know the difference. Maybe the cooks don't care how the food tastes. Maybe, in turn, the owners don't care how the food tastes if enough money is coming in. Being from SoCal, I have the luxury of having access to some of the best mexican food in the country, which must make me biased, but the entire meal was just gross. I could go on, but won't. This place sucks, the food is nothing near to being authentic, I barely sat before some kid who knows nothing about the menu, asks me what I want to drink, held onto his drink menu as if it was his beloved possession, then gets offended when I ask him for couple minutes with water and a menu. .. another guy tried, but didn't get it. Kinda makes me a little sad. We came here with some friends and it was packed. We got seated quickly and our server was attentive at first, at first. Things quickly went from attentive to neglecting and I suppose it was easier just to stop coming by. Our food was slow to come out, expecting that of course with how busy but a little follow up from our server would have been nice. We are from So. Calif and just passing through Hutchinson for a few days. Decent Mexican food is hard to find east of the Rockies, but Playa Azul provided just that, decent Mexican. Not the best, the food came out way to fast to have been made from scratch, and presentation was bland. The food, however, was not bland. I had the Chili Colorado, which was tender steak, rather than chunks, but still tender and flavorful. The chopped beef tacos were excellent. My wife had the chili reallno comb and the chili was very spicy. She also said the chicken in the enchilada and burrito was a little on the tough side. This is my favorite restaurant in Hutchinson. Every time my husband, daughter and I come in to eat, we are immediately sat. The chips, salsa and queso is the best in town!
