Many of these toys are geared towards fostering creativity, imagination, and interactivity, which is something we need more of, in our increasingly screen-addicted society. We purchased a baby dragon stuffed animal for our baby son, Sir Galahad, but hopefully he'll befriend him, instead of slaying him!

The video game section at Toys R Us is about the size of the entire Splash Toy Store. That gives you an idea how tiny this place is. They have a lot of plushies, puzzles and building block type toys. They don't have (m)any of the usual shelf-warmers: Transformers, G.I. Joe, Barbies, My Little Ponies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc.... Splashes seems to focus more on quality toys with some component of discovery, problem-solving or learning. Some of the puzzles and building toys are quite pricy, however. They also seem to carry some stuffed animals and figurines from companies I've never heard of. During COVID, they are restricting how many people can enter the store at a given time. And, since the store is tiny, the lineup can be long. On our last visit, there were 5 families ahead of us, and we had to wait about 20-25 minutes! Worth a look, especially if you're looking for a unique toy for that special someone.

However, the shop owner reached me out immediately after she noted my post. I appreciate she brought another set to my home for exchanging mine in person. This one looks better. She is responsible owner and do care about customers.

Also you will find handmade unique and slightly creepy art throughout the building. Bonus points for the store with all of the "magic" tricks and gags - the fake poo was surprisingly realistic looking. This little corner toy store definitely packs a punch…read more You can't miss this place: the exterior is painted all sorts of happy, bright colors, and there are usually toys and balloons outside the door, too. I've driven past this store a gazillion times and always smiled at the happy, exuberant exterior and toy display. I finally visited inside the store today and I was even more impressed. I personally love jigsaw puzzles, and this place has an excellent selection of puzzles in every range of difficulty, from 100 pieces to 1000 pieces. Most of the manufacturers were high-end brands. Walking around, I was so impressed by the sheer selection and types of games and toys in this place. I loved how they all seems to foster the imagination and creativity, and/or were "fun educational" in nature, like really fun geocaching tools, or science kits or activity books or "fossilized poop" (I'm not kidding you. From 1000 years ago. For real!). Games and toys that make exploring and learning fun. And lots of stuffed animals, too. And advent calendars in many fun themes (including crafty advent calendars). I loved how the toys were not stereotyped or categorized by gender or age. I kept thinking, if my kids were younger, this totally would be my go-to toy store. It is perfect for any kid IMO. You'd be hard-pressed not to find the perfect toy or game for even the pickiest kid here.

Actually, I notice there tends to be individual services (florist, fruit/veg stand/ butcher/ baker) for most things in each area...very different from the US...and I think it's much nicer. Granville Island Toy Co. has been around for quite awhile. The emphasis is on quality play things, but they do have some of the latest trend items also (like Frozen dolls). The shop is nicely laid out. The displays are inviting. It is easy to find things. On my last visit, I noticed a bunch of siege engines and Da Vinci machine models on display. They were very well made and would be so fun to mess with. This store has a great selection of popular, high end toys: Playmobil, Calico Critters (I lovvvve Calico Critters), Legos, Schleich. More trendy stuff by Funko. An excellent selection of games of all types for all ages & lots of puzzles. Excellent place for stocking stuffers. They also have Corolle dolls - these are lovely for any child that wants a baby doll - they smell like vanilla, so well made & sweet looking. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable. They aren't pushy. Granville Island Toy Co. offers gift wrap, gift cards and has a nice customer loyalty program. You get $5 for every $100 you spend and an invite to their annual 25% off sale. I also like that the staff don't hover over the kids playing. They let them play as the parents are usually near by watching. I take my kids to Granville island quite often. They get their hair cuts upstairs at the Hairloft and after my son will always run down to Knotty toys to play with the train set. We do not usually leave this store empty. I've purchased MANY wooden numbers , a couple boxes of Tegu magnetic blocks ( these are great toys!) , puzzles , wooden play figures, and my most recent purchase was the 132 piece Melissa and doug deluxe wooden train set. Think $40-60 and up (!) for a blind box, for an attempt to get the doll / design that you want. Or, you ca buy a full set of 12 -- one of each -- to ensure that you will get the one you want... What the heck!! Sounds like throwing money down the drain to me... yet the line keeps getting longer, and their "New Arrivals" or "New Series" keeps coming. This is a great store to browse. I'd say take your time browsing this store - look at all of their selections and varieties (which are indeed very very cute!!) - then just take pictures of them. That's it. No need to buy... lol! Have fun!!
