This is a very quaint, romantic looking restaurant, with lit candles on every table and a piano in the middle of the dining room. When you walk in, it smells AMAZING. We were seated quickly but it took quite a while before the waiter came back to take our order. I think you may just need to expect a slow paced meal when dining here. We ordered a tortellini in cream sauce / carbonara, and a shrimp pasta. Both were outstanding, and at €9 and €12 each, I thought they were an outstanding value. Like all German restaurants, expect that you'll need to buy a bottle of you want water, and also the waitperson will only come around if you call them over. The views are gorgeous from the top of the castle and some lower level platforms. The building itself is in ruins but well worth a visit: to look at and, of course, listen to the wind harp installed in what used to be the great hall, to climb the windy stairs and investigate the different levels of the castle, and to ascend to the top of the tower, from which you have stunning views over the Rhine valley and Alsace on one side and the Black Forest on the other. Entry is free and there is a car park nearby. The surrounding wooded area and the rock formation Battert are great for picnics and walks of different difficulties. And if you don't want to provide your own refreshments, there is a restaurant/hotel to the left of the entrance to the castle. A great day out for the whole family!
