Don't be deterred by the fact that The Block is part of the local backpackers hostel. If I've learnt anything from country towns the most bizarre place can surprise you. Being from "the big smoke" it's nice to come to a place that serves actual coffee! They brew Campos beans and it's made expertly by the baristas. Their brunch is also the best in town, served up until 11am. The Eggs Benedict is my personal favourite as they know how to make proper Hollandaise sauce, although I always ask for it on the side because they put too much on for my liking. There is a nice outdoor seating area which is the best place to sit because the inside can get a bit crowded with kids as there's a play corner. They do a lunch menu and a dinner menu but I haven't been there for either of those meals because the breakfast is just too good. You'll see a whole range of people at The Block from backpackers and tourists to local families and fishermen. Make sure you check it out when you come to Yamba!

I was disappointed to find that what this cafe deems pancakes are actually crepes. Crepes are fine but they are not fluffy, thick, homely pancakes. This was a let down. I also couldn't put my finger on an odd flavour. Tasted a bit like fruit loops and lemon but couldn't pin point if it was the crepe batter or maple syrup.

Dissatisfied with the menu and whole entire place plastered in old faded pictures up the walls and windows of their "dishes" I decided to try it because there were no other options, reluctant I ordered, a "works" burger and a side of Calamari. Total cost of a burger, 6 pieces of calamari, and 600ML water bottle was $34.00. Friendly enough guy behind counter, but the crew out the back was a 14-16 year old kid, and another 8-10 year old working the kitchen, kitchen was filthy and looked very unclean. Lots of yelling and confusion each time the "owner/manager" went out the back to check on my order 3-4 times. Food when I got it was not worth the 25 minute wait or the $34.00 price tag. Let down, would not recommend anybody to eat here or have to put themselves through this.
