Best still is no access to the beach by boats, providing pleasure for all. We accessed by Paddle Board. Wow. It was hard the leave. The water is freeeeeezing by the way. And no toilets. Nevertheless, if you come later in the morning or aroung noon, you better look for a parking lot outside the beach area as everything is completely overcrowded. There are a lot of bars and restaurants directely at the beach or in walking distance. Quality and prices are okay in case you take into consideration that France is very expensive. We've been there last year in end of August/beginning of September. At this time, main season has already been finished. I suppose everything will be extremely full in August. I'd like to mention the clean toilets in addition. Always important to know!

if you get the chance, i'd highly recommend hiking the calanques in cassis…read more DO NOT BE FOOLED by the tourist websites that claim the cruises are the only way to go...they're NOT! the cruise will allow you to see the calanques and their magnificence, but only from afar since the jagged rocks prevent you from coming up close ~*~ this was one of my favorite mis/adventures! there was a wind advisory that day, so the calanques were "officially closed" according to the tourism office i decided i'd kick myself if i didn't go, so i took a bus from marseille and thought i'd hike to see the first calanque...seeing one would have made my day i got there and found out it was only advisory (high winds + french smokers == fire hazard!) therefore it was unofficially still open ;p preparation// - bring sunblock - beach towel - swimsuit - sneakers - SHADES/sunnies ~*~ this hike//***** was gorgeous~ and fairly easy considering my lack of athletic ability i was able to walk across 5 of the 7 calanques within 1.5 hours and even stopped to dip my feet in the mediterranean! terrain// rocky & pebbly there are different color markers for difficulty levels...some of the more strenuous paths would require hiking staffs if you're not afraid of heights you HAVE TO go to the outer corners that overlook the mediterranean...it's as if you were simba from the lion king....w/ the wind in your hair! sea//***** the waters are crystal clear and so beautiful!

You have to hike for at least an hour from the parking they have up around "port miou" but the views are worth it. I would recommend: good walking shows, Looots of water (especially on summertime), a hat, sunscreen and a towel to cover your shoulders.

More of a neighborhood and city style beach areas than a resort. More beaches along the coast and towards Hyeres.. those are maybe more scenic. But this is a good spot to relax and layout and it's a moderate walk from the port area..

The "R.I.F." (Independant Republic of Figuerolles) is definitively a magic place. Its restaurant…read morerecommended by most of guides (Gault & Millau, Michelin,...), nested on top of one of the most beautiful France south east creek, is really exceptionnal. If you stay for a while by La Ciotat, just try it. You could either eat meat or fish (fresh, of course), everything is perfect (from taste to presentation). Do not forget pastry, fabulous ! If you're lucky you could even imagine to sleep in this lovely place, as R.I.F. also offers Beds & Breakfast. But, keep in mind one important thing : booking (restaurant or bed) is mandatory (many people like R.I.F., even very famous ones (actors, sailors, TV animator,...)). You could have a look to RIF WEB site(http://figuerolles.free.fr) , it will help you to wait for your next holidays. P.S. : if you dive in the creek, please let animals (octopus,...) live.

I am very late in reviewing this..but better late than never I suppose!…read more I did the full day kayaking tour last September with Pilou, and had a FANTASTIC time. First off, Pilou was very accommodating. I was traveling in South France by myself using only public transport, and he very kindly picked me up/dropped me off at the train station in Cassis. I was also the only American in our group and spoke only a little French, and Pilou was very kind in switching between French and English for my sake. He was also a very funny, knowledgeable, and entertaining guide! I Kayaking in the calanques was absolutely beautiful. The scenery was just outstanding, and I really enjoyed the time spent on the beach and passing through some of the caves. I would highly recommend doing the full day tour with Destination Calanques!
