I had to go to another salon to FIX yes FIX the damaged caused and they recommended the bleached part to be cut off as the bleach that she used was too strong and it damaged my long hair. cheapness comes at a price - I CRIED :(

The first time I got a lady who wouldn't listen to me and barely spoke English, but the haircut was okay and it was cheap enough so I thought I might go there again for a simple trim. The guy I got the second time was terrible, he listened to me for two seconds and asked how much I wanted off the ends and I said I just wanted it an inch shorter to cut off the split ends, he nodded and got cutting without even wetting my hair to make sure the cut was even, he also cut my fringe and it was terrible. He used thinning scissors to do the entire haircut and didn't even take the time to check if the haircut was even. I ended up with a fringe that was way too short and thinned out and now it looks really straggly and jagged, a chunk of my hair was way shorter than the rest and it is 5 inches shorter than I asked for. I am so unhappy and my long hair is gone, and he even had the audacity to ask if it was short enough, my hair is ruined and I can't even go to another hair salon to get it fixed until it grows back. So last week I popped in for a quick trim, and long-winded gossip session. Besides a few new faces, nothing has changed. Michael's is still is still a great salon, offering good value and a fun follicle experience. I've only ever had my hair cut by Michael, but from what I have seen, the other stylists are more than capable, and work hard to ensure you receive the results you want. She was very patient and really quite funny during the waxing treatment and assured me of her qualifications as a beautician and the fact that she found it annoying that other people got away without having them. They have separate rooms at the back which are clean and comfortable. Going to her was about ten dollars cheaper than what I usually pay at another place when I happen to be at Hurstville - and she did a much better job in my opinion. I was having one of those days and I just went to "Just cuts" which is right below where I live in the Rockdale Plaza. I wasn't expecting much and I just waited for my turn. I met Brooke who just asked me what I wanted to do and perhaps she guessed that I didn't really know. She just did a bit of her stuff. A little snip of scissors here and there, didn't take her long maybe 8-10 minutes and there I was all done. I felt really good and she was just amazing. Very friendly and made me feel really good about myself. And all the other girls were complimenting me on how I looked. That's why I thought of writing this review as it's just an ordinary place which made me feel extra ordinary. I know I sound like a kid ..but that's how I felt.

I have tried many hairdressers all over Sydney but have never been able to commit to just one. I find most hairdressers pretend to listen to what you have to say and then cut whatever style they are used to. I said no layers, miss. Oh you said no layers? I thought you said four layers. Too late, my bad. You can see my conundrum. Well that was until I was referred to Partners Hair. I made a booking with Joe (sometimes hard to come by) and prepared for the worst. But the moment I arrived ("Would you like some tea, coffee, water infused with strawberries ma'am?") I felt a connection to the place. Joe was wonderful. He was delightfully entertaining and all around chatty. It was like getting a haircut by your best friend. We talked about dancing, partying and our weekend hangovers that we'd been trying to put at bay, babies and boyfriends. I left feeling satisfied and confident in Joe's handiwork. Now I don't go anywhere else. I generally make appointments with Joe but have also tried Wissom, who is equally friendly and just as good with the scissors. They have a loyalty card where every three visits you receive something extra (free treatment, free product or free hair cut) and they send you birthday specials via text message. Once I even received a message for a discount haircut because they noticed I hadn't been in awhile (I'm lazy like that). If that is not true customer service, I don't know what is.

When it's time, it's TIME. Most recently, I found myself with hair reminiscent of the homeless lady that patrols Glebe Point Road, and so I set out to find someone to remedy it. A short Google search later, I discovered the nearby Partners Hair Workshop and BAM, booked for that afternoon. So first of all, they were doing a spectacular 30% off for first time customers, free deep conditioning special. What's more, I was offered a glass of white while I sat down for my consultation (which turned into 2, I mean, right?). My hairdresser Max listened closely to what I was after, gave some good input and got to work chopping. He worked quickly and amused me all the while with his stories of big nights out on Oxford St. As I slurped the last of my wine, he went to town with the blow dryer and about 5 round brushes to achieve the "bouncy" look. At the end of my appointment I ended up with a kickass haircut and a new possible best friend. It just took one wash to bring my 80s prom queen-esque styling into the current decade but I must admit, the cut was a great one- well shaped, good layering and the perfect amount of fringe. Go see Max, he's definitely a kick and the boy knows his scissors.
