As with most places, I will order off of the menu du jour, assuming the ingredients will be fresh and/or more apt to be "terroir". The leek and potato soup was good. It was actually soupy as opposed to a thick, hot, pasty, homogeneously blended "soup", which can be good, but it seems like every restaurant goes for this style (I'm still hoping I can get a soup that is a simple rustic broth with pasta and bits of veggie... somewhere - I make it myself when I have to :). There was texture within a lightly cheese flavored broth - a good combination. Again, the food is light on salt - a refreshing change from the states. Main was a pan fried Plaice (flat fish) in a piccata sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly, flakey. The sauce was a tad dry, but still ample enough. It came with a light salad and potatoes (as pictured). Service was prompt and efficient. I didn't have to wait long for any course and it seemed that each course came when I was ready to have it - I'm pretty easy and not too fussy however., and it wasn't overly busy. The bill was a little slow to come, but no worries. Apparently you have to pay at the register, good to know. The place filled up quite a bit by the time I left. It was a tad hot sitting near the kitchen and got hotter when more bodies came in. The inside is simple and clean. I'm not a fan of cluttered and overly ornate interiors. Places like this appeal to my style of simplicity and minimalism. This will be a repeat for sure.

It's modern, classy, and vibrant. I ordered the Rigatoni Arrabbiata. It may look boring, but the flavors were bold! It had a nice spice from the chili peppers and tasted very fresh. Nothing was too much and happiness radiated from them with an addictive vibe. I ordered the antipasti plate as my starter, which was a selection of meats with bruschetta and chopped tomatoes. The meats were a little oily, but I understand that is the traditional way, and the bruschetta was to die for. When mixed together in one mouthful it was an explosion of taste... Juicy fresh tomatoes, the bite of garlic, the crunch of bruschetta and the smooth texture of the meat. Excellent starter, highly recommended. For my main I had a dish off of the specials board which was filet steak, in peppercorn sauce, with potatoes and vegetables. The vegetable came to share with the other guest on the table and it included Brussels, green beans, carrots and onions (unfortunately I didn't get a picture quick enough). The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the texture melted in my mouth like every good steak should. 100% perfect. The peppercorn sauce was creamy and also had the perfect bite of pepper. The potatoes were roasted to perfection. Also, a delicious bottle of wine, served very professionally topped off the whole meal. We had a party of 3 and everyone had a starter, a main and we ordered two beers and a bottle of wine. The total was £80 and it was worth every penny. The only downside was the noise as the walls bounced it off from every direction with the room being an open space. But you can't complain too much because it's expected for such a popular restaurant, and good on them to fill up with so many people. I hear every night is extremely full and we have previously tried to walk in another time to find that they had no tables available unless we waited quite a while. So make sure you reserve a table in advance so you don't end up disappointed. You won't regret it! Best restaurant in Cottingham right now.
