The only real suggestion I had was that just good, plain broken french bread would have made it perfect - instead, overly seasoned bread stick thingys of something or other really brought it down a notch. Friendly suggestion: just use broken french bread or something like that please! Otherwise, it was a nice starter and took the edge off what was a ravishing hunger. Ready now for the main... Again, a new menu item: sea bass with potatoes and tomato sauce garnish. The fish was far from fresh (anything that tastes distinctly "fishy" is surely NOT fresh!), although it's braised presentation yielded a nice flavor. The small potatoes were the nicest addition: there were plenty of them that went with the single fish filet and this was the saving grace as I did push back from the table with my hunger sated. The tomato-based sauce was not to my liking. It tasted to me as if it was canned and not fresh at all. I won't be too harsh on that, though: I simply pushed it to the side and decided perhaps it was just my personal taste. I finished with a side salad (although I actually ordered the tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella) that was fresh with good greens and actually quite nice. I would have rated the experience higher were it not for the fact that the bill was quite high. All told it was well over $40 for an adequate meal. For that price the food was definitely below par. Had it been $20 I would have given the experience at least 3 stars.

I walked in and was happily greeted when I entered. I was able to pay in the back and had a quick chat with a gentlemen named Rafa, very nice guy. The food was ready and on time. For an American, one pizza would be enough for one person. The pizza is very thin and light. In all honesty my wife and I ate everything except for one slice leftover in each pizza. I would recommend this place to anyone headed through Summertown.

After we got there we found a very comfortable seat. Mom and I started to order. My original plan for my third course was to eat a pancake called Crêpes Suzette. The waitress said that I couldn't order that as my third course. It was because there would be alcohol in Crêpes Suzette so he suggested me to try another dessert for my third course so I ordered tiramisu. The rest of our meal was delicious! However, our neighbors ordered Crêpes Suzette and we saw the fire flying up two meters high. It was caused by the alcohol. Because the alcohol was strong enough to make the cooking pan go on fire for two meters high. That was a funny & interesting night. I enjoyed eating in the Rigoletto and if you have time, you can go there for your dinner!!! Fun Fact This was my dolci menu!!!

La Fenice is a good Italian restaurant…read more However, it has all the makings of a GREAT Italian restaurant if it could succumb to a few simple tweaks. I went there with friends recently. The vibe of the places squeals 'style', the friendly smiling attention of the servers likewise. Then we we given the menus. The combination of low light, nothing specific illuminating our table and pale grey printing on the pages of the menu meant... well, it meant we couldn't actually see what was on offer! I am not making this up when I say to read it we had to spark up a smartphone and hold it over the pages and then lean in as a combined trio to pore over the contents. So simple suggestion 1:- Quickly reprint the menus using good old fashioned black ink and save your diners the embarrassment and awkwardness of having to squint like a very squinty thing. Simple Suggestion #2:- If you must play music over the speakers, please, please, PLEASE play something that is in keeping with the stylish vibe of the place. I will remember La Fenice's craptastic selection of horrible saxophone solos, cheesy light jazz rubbish, out-of-tune wailers and (at one point an utterly bizarre choice of) German oompah band music FAR longer than I will remember the food I ate there. And the food is good. One of our party had a pizza which looked inviting and was polished off in its 14" entirety whilst the other two opted for the risottos (mushroom or chicken) which came out from the kitchen hot and steaming and very tasty indeed, garnished and accompanied perfectly. The food served to the tables around us all looked terrific and almost everyone seemed to be having a nice time... even if eyebrows did collectively raise when that oompah tune came on. Le Fenice's website - just discovered - states that fish is their speciality. I wish I had known that on the night as its been a long time since I've had a good Italian fish dish. Sadly, the design of the menu meant I never even saw this kind of offering to choose it. Like I said. A good Italian restaurant with all the makings of being a great one. Worth a try if you take along a flashlight/torch and a sturdy pair of music-blocking earplugs!
