In the next generation, the connection became a thread. Donald Trump captured Presidential Term 47, taking the levers of power, opening the throttle to redline speed to locate and deport undocumented people living in the USA. Some of the earliest "captures" took place in Tuba City, Arizona. It is north of the road passing throgh Moencopi Village, a family home town. Brown people were taken.into custody and held. Dineh'/Navajo people. Family tribal identification was expired. New identification was the thread pulling us north. A seventy year old cousin was out with her family running a marathon. We mised them. The Hopi Cultural Center Restaurant is a post-event dining spot before we return to Phoenix. The Cultural Center has fresh white paint, the restaurant has an overhauled, simpler menu. Maybe this next generation cannot prepare traditional foods. The Native menu items are several forms of frybread- based entrees and beef stew. The frybread is more a flattened sopaipilla, tender, easy cutting, delicious on my palate. Beef stew was simple, but delicious. In general, Indigenous Amer8cans, North and South, keep life simple, practical, useful. The meals of the new menu reflect this. If, at meal's end we getmore than one dessert desire, dessert is ordered. We ordered the strawberry shortcake. Ice cream, strawberries. whipprd cream, wedges of shortcake with that must-have 31st century item - Sprinkles! Our service was very good, our food was fresh, hot and cold as required. I went for breakfast since this is one of the few places in Northern AZ to actually have blue corn mush on a proper menu. (Blue corn mush, or wu'taka, is also the only real Hopi food on the menu, according to a guide I hired a while back. Though Navajos also eat it...) In any case, the blue corn mush was delicious, and much better than the other version I'd had at the Tuba flea market. It had a rich flavor and a nice porridge-y texture that wasn't congealed or gummy. The waitress suggested adding sugar, and one small packet was the perfect amount to bring out the corn flavor. The hard boiled eggs were nothing special but hey, how can they be?

Horrible customer service…read more I tried to order online. Said there was difficulty with their system and to call the restaurant. Called the restaurant and the number was out of service. Went to the restaurant to order. Asked for the correct number. The cashier told me she didn't know the number. What?? You don't know the number to your job? She says, "I just work here". Yeah. That's why you should know the number. I ask her to ask one of her co-workers. They don't know either. I can see the phone sitting on the desk behind her. I ask her to call me from the number. She says the phone doesn't make outgoing calls. Fine. I order my pizza. Ask for square cut. She says 15 minutes. I leave and come back. Pizza isn't square cut. She says, "I didn't cut it". Yes. But you placed the order. So you should have noted, the proper cut. I ask for my money back. She says I can't take the pizza and get my money back. Uh. No duh! I wonder how many orders she's messed up that she feels the need to say you can't get your money back and keep the pizza. I'm betting people left, not knowing their order was messed up. And then they came back for their money. This cashier is horrible. No accountability. Completely apathetic. Worst customer service experience ever. This is a small town. And customer service is often lacking because "where else you gonna go???". But this was beyond bad.

So on our way there we decided to have dinner here and I'm glad we did. With time in hand. I searched Yelp and the reviews got me. We arrived and there was no one waiting outside, but the place was full. You need to wait outside or you can write down your number and they'll give you a call. We waited about 30 minutes to be called inside. It was so nice and cozy inside. The little fire place was running. It was perfect. I had the three sisters burrito. It's basically a veggie burrito smothered in their mole salsa. It was delish. My daughter had the pork taquitos and my husband combination plate. We started with the chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty spicy. I thought the chip serving was rather small compared to our local neighbors. Everything wet had was delish. We were all pleased with our meal after being on the road so long. We ended with the apple pie nachos. Super good. I strongly recommend. It was so good we came back for breakfast. I started off with the Red Chuli Chai latte. So good and spicy. I had the huevos rancheros. They were pretty good and they were served with a giant flour tortilla. My husband the the omelette. He was so satisfied. My daughter had the blue corn waffle. She was happy camper too. Next time you are on your way to Monument Valley or just passing through Kayenta you must stop here. The food is really good.
