What a wonderful experience. Visiting dear friends originally from NY that have a home in Tuscany,…read morewe came for a relaxing dinner at La Cantina. The staff was extremely welcoming and the food was fresh and delicious. There is both an inside dining room and a large outdoor garden setting. The evening we came there was a warm breeze and it was delightful to sit outside. We were quickly seated and our order was taken within minutes. We started with typical Tuscan appetizers. One was tastier than the next. My girlfriend and I shared a large sandwich made with a huge flat bread. It was stuffed with meat, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce. It was extremely large and definitely enough to share. It was not a heavy sandwich and it was really tasty. Her husband had a margarita pizza with meat. Dad had a sliced steak with Parmesan cheese, arugula and French fries. For dessert we tasted the home made cheese cake that was the owner's Mom's recipe. It was much lighter and more delicate than a NY cheese cake. It was less sweet and to me tasted almost like a cross between cheese cake and a Napoleon. It was awesome! Definitely try it! If you ever find yourself in this part of the Tuscan hills of Italy, do yourself a favor and visit this place. You won't be disappointed.

It is a large restaurant (both inside & out) , the servers are not just standing around. It appears that this may be a local gathering place as it is right there on the capacity. A couple of the evenings I visited, there was live music, which made the experience just that much more enjoyable. I've had the "Tordelli" also, out of this world. Prices were a pleasant surprise, to me very affordable. Unfortunately, I didn't have more time to eat here, but I highly recommend for a GREAT meal.

We enjoyed the light atmosphere and the 80s rock/pop mix while waiting for our food (the wait was a bit long but I'm not sure if that's custom or not in Italy; still learning the food culture in Italy). The food: The melon and prosciutto may be my favorite aperitivo in Italy so far. The sweetness of the cantaloupe and the saltiness of freshly sliced prosciutto is a great combination and gets the palate warmed up. Great starter to share for two. I ordered the Risa Mare and the Mrs. had the gnocchi ragu with seabream. Both dishes were delicious. The Risa had seafood in every bite. Portion sizes are reasonable and filled us up without leaving us stuffed. All in all, I highly recommend this spot for people coming or going to see the leaning tower and need a good meal.
